partslinger
I have had just about every problem mentioned in these forums. I have tried so many "fixes" I can't even begin to name them, and I still can't play the game the way it was meant to be played. I have a pain like a red hot poker being shoved in my back from the hours spent at the keyboard trying to make this game playable. I SHOULD be getting that pain from hours spent at the keyboard playing the sh*t out of GTA IV! I paid $50.00 for this game the day after it came out, so you can imagine the hours I have spent. All I'm asking is, if you look at this post and have problems with the game, leave a reply as simple as "I have problems", and then we can get some kind of idea of the true numbers here, cause I think it's WAY more than 1%. x cmon3y x
just look at the troubleshooting forums, 18000 post, does it look like a 1% of the time problem? I highly recommend not buying this game (to anyone that doesn't have it yet) until the issues are resolved or they release a revised version

noVa
tbh i don't think its 1% but i don't think its very very high, its like a figure quoted by EA recently "99.8% of our customers don't care about DRM" yeh i'd like to know where you got those figures from. guesstimate is the correct term i rekon. frodo baggins
Forums do not represent anything. Firstly only a minority of players use forums, and an even smaller % of that visit this particular forum. And out of that an even small number ever post. However, almost all posts (except for those about mission help, multiplayer and machinima discussion) are negative posts about problems, asking for help. I don't believe anyone would post to say 'Hey guys the game's working great for me!', since there is no point, and besides, if it was they'ld probably be playing, not posting. I don't think only 1% of the players are having problems, but I doubt it is much higher than 20% or so (pulling that number out of a hat), not the 70-90% as some people seem to have suggested (at least on the PC/troubleshooting forums). The game's not working for a lot of people, but it's working for a lot more.

Then you have to figure of all the GTA owners lets say 1,500,000 probably 150,00 are having problems
frodo baggins
My point is that the proportions don't work like that. Say there are 10,000 regular posters in this forum, and of that, 5,000 complain they have problems. If there are 10,000,000 GTA IV players in all, it does not mean 5,000,000 of them have problems. This is because, as I said before, the great majority of people who use these forums use it to complain and ask for help. You don't come here if you don't have a problem, unless you're here to dicuss about multiplayer, missions etc (which the other 5,000 account for). In short, my point is that the majority of the people who use these forums have problems with the game, so we cannot use these proportions. Honestly, when I installed this game on several different computers, I had just about all the same problems. I don't think everyone with a problem will come to the forums, especially considering signing up. I believe the number is much higher than 1%. But also a lot of people don't know how GTA 4 for pc should really be running. I can say, it definitely should superfly the xbox 360 version, which does tend to lag (other problems / bugs too). But sometimes people don't care and just throw the game to the side.
TonyClifton
It seems I have been luckier than most, because I have had a lot of play out of the game and will want to continue to play it in the future. However, the first GTA IV game I bought, as a special when I bought my PS3, worked fine into about half way through the game, and then refused to load. I tried other games and they were fine, so I took the GTA game back to GAME and they changed it, no questions asked. I have played the replacement game for months, and completed the game several times without any problems. Now it has gone ape sh*t! It started with a stream of phone calls from my friends group all asking to go out, and then sending messages to say I haven't contacted them for ages. I realised something was terribly amiss (putting it mildy). It was downhill all the way after that. Can't get a reaction from the mission markers, and now the game freezes. It seems to be in one place, because I have a Game Completed save file and this is fine. The area where it started was around the time of the Gracie Ancelotti missions. I think I will have to delete the two current save files (not the Completed one) and start again and see what happens. What a massive bummer!! GTAIV-Is-Crap
Its not the 20-30% or the 70-80% I have a problem with, Its the quite obvious 1% lie! If they lied to us, and they f*cking did, but something like that, what else are they lying, or prepared to lie about? It just feels like a big con. Hand over the money and then get lied to. mikeyblueuk
Have a look at this : http://www.gta4land.com/ Does that poll reflect 1% of problems ? As for saying only a small percentage of users post on forums for help, you also need to figure in that of those that dont, a lot have probably either taken the game back to the shop, or just stuck it on a shelf and got on with playing Farcry2 or something else. noVa
i'm sure they probably didn't lie to us, they were probably only going on technical support figures - which can be wildly inaccurate especially when tech support didn't answer for so long, i'm sure if they were to actually come back with another comment the figure would have changed. ZaCkOX
i'm sure they probably didn't lie to us, they were probably only going on technical support figures - which can be wildly inaccurate especially when tech support didn't answer for so long, i'm sure if they were to actually come back with another comment the figure would have changed. No man, it's just like the xbox 360 failures, and Microsoft didn't want to admit that 1/3 of the xbox 360s were very likely to get some form of the red ring of death. Their number wasn't close to that, but they did start to announce the number was higher, but again you have to shove their poker hand onto the table. Same with Cockstar! With all the problems I have found with the pc version I wouldn't be surprised if the real number is 50%+ and a lot of people don't report it. Also take into the account that once people get warned about the game, it doesn't keep that steep sale, sale, sale like they thought. Look at the disppointing sales. I agree, they are super low because they f*cked up. So the percentage must be high, but to what extent, I don't think anyone can come up with a clear answer. We can just look at the game in general and decide how f*cked it is. And considering I played it all the time on the xbox 360, have to say it's f*cked to hell for the pc. I highly recommend not buying this game (to anyone that doesn't have it yet) until the issues are resolved or they release a revised version They should have directions on the side of the box "Take game out of package, place directly in toilet". It would save people alot of aggravation. Lol yeah. Or ''Do not play this game under any circumstances, being drunk included'' Btw, you save 16GB of hard drive space if you delete this game Well, the game lasts long and has very good graphics and story but it is very likely that you won't be fully satisfied with it. TheRichPoorMan
i had some major problems but after updating the drivers and upgrading my RAM they've been fixed to the extent that the game is "playable", i still have a couple of small problems, the game gets stuck on the character loop when starting up if not windowed and when playing it will sometimes randomly freeze for about a minute then when resuming the HUD breaks and instead of a map there are big lines on the screen plus all sprites used in the game dissappear (bullets, Waypoints, THE SKY!)
