Escuela of the Streets (GTA IV PC version)

Recommended Posts

Apologies - this topic has been posted before, but I can't find a satisfactory solution here or anywhere online.

The mission Escuela of the Streets appears to be bugged. I follow the dealer to the warehouse and Manny says to pull over, but no amber arrow appears (also the mission brief does not update). I've seen clips on you tube and tried parking exactly where it should be (next to a lampost and a bag of rubbish), but this doesn't work. As a result I can't progress to the next cut scene or any further in the game.

Having scoured the web I haven't found a satisfactory solution. I rung the technical support helpline (first time I have ever had to do this for a game or anything else). They suggested it was a corrupt save game file, and that reloading from an earlier point would cure it - it doesn't, even if you start again from the begining of the game. I gather some people have managed to get around it by replaying, but I've done this 20 or so times, and am too fed up to continue trying.

Any suggestions? I have the v1 patch installed already.

Any help greatfully appreciated. I'll end just by getting a winge off my chest - I'm thoroughly dissapointed with rockstars support. Their web page is rather limited to say the least. It would be nice to see a list of the problems they are aware of to be reassured they are going to fix them soon.

Ahh, many thanks to grove_street_og for an amazingly quick pm response.

There is a complete list of saves for all missions here:

http://www.gtavision.com/index.php?section=content&site=114

For anyone who is unaware, other people's save files will not work normally on your computer. You will need to use the mod wrapper which can be found here:

http://www.gtagaming.com/downloads/gta-iv/tools/1882

Oh, and if you haven't found the save game files on your own computer, they are in

C:\Documents and Settings\Your_user_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\

which by default will be hidden. Not in the obvious place, the installed directory!

Getting this game to work is much harder than actually playing it!

Ladies and Gentleman of GTA Forums, I just had to join to share this with you. I have the same ridiculous problem with escuela of the streets and I was in the process of trying out some of the advice listed when I had a bit of a brain-wave.

A couple of the posters here have said to try the mission, fail in some particular way then try again staying two car lengths behind I just about to deliberately fail the mission when I realised- Niko has several different ways of saying it but ALWAYS mentions the two car lengths and I thought "what if I'm exactly two car lengths behind the dealer the moment he stops" (I also did my best to come to a complete halt at the exact same moment as him but I've no idea if that matters). ANYway, it worked and I've completed the mission so my advice is:

Do the mission once and make a note of exactly where the dealer stops, start again and behave however the hell you like but make sure that when the dealer stops you are between him and the fire hydrant which should put you about two car lengths behind.

Swivel the camera and there it is, bold as brass right behind you, the gold mission arrow.

I'd love to know if this sorts it out but I'm not about to waste anymore valuable me time on that loud-mouthed chump so I'm never going back if I can possibly help it.

Good luck every one.

Incidentally, I think p-l-a-y-e-r may have been on to something when he suggested lowering the settings. I couldn't do this any further, but I upgraded my graphics card recently and the problem went away.

My graphics settings? They are on absolute minimum!

Here is what I wrote on another thread that worked for me on this mission (Try to ensure Resource Monitor is green and Screen resolution is reduced)

Hello All,

I have just managed to rectify the aforementioned bug in "Escuela Of The Streets" Mission on my computer (regarding no pointer/ dealer refuses to get out of the car)!!! colgate.gif

After much reading through forums I seem to have determined this to be somehow related to a graphical processing bug within this part of the game.

I have been experiencing TOURTURE!!! On and off over the past few months when it comes to this mission; I have Upgraded Computer, Upgraded to a better OS, Re-installed twice and I have had to endure the non-stop whining of that COMPLETE IMBECILE 'Manny' on countless occasions, all of which have not helped in letting me proceed in this game!!! angry.gif

My luck however has changed about 5 minutes ago when I attempted to put in place some advice I read on a forum relating to altering GPU settings, AND IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif The cutscene played and I'm going to try to finish the mission after I share this great news!

NOW HERE IS HOW I MANAGED TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GREAT FEAT!

1st: I walked onto the mission arrow to start the whole mission (Triggering dance cutscene - You can skip this as it is terrible)

THEN: Once the characters are loaded onto the courtyard and M states the need for a car I hit the ESC key and entered the following settings into the 'GRAPHICS' options menu:

ASPECT RATIO - 4:3

"VIDEO MODE" SLIDER (TOP OF SCREEN) 800 X 600 (60Hz Refresh Rate)

All Quality Settings Set To - 'LOW' (Even on options that have a 'NONE' category still hit LOW).

I had to use these options to work on my PC (Just this mission though) but if you had a better graphics card you might be able to get away with higher settings but I'm not sure if this is the case.

HOWEVER THE MOST IMPORTANT THING I THINK IS THAT THE "RESOURCE MONITOR" (Bottom Of Screen) SHOWS NUMBERS THAT DISPLAY AS GREEN (For me this was 209/236MB).

Then I saved these settings, stole a parked car and completed the mission managing not to spook the dealer, and then the arrow and cutscene appear!!!! cool.gif

Give this a go and I wish you all good luck,

Kindest Regards,

Heath.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PS: I think this situation, as well as being a BUG is also a similar thing that Microsoft did with VISTA - Stating unrealistically small MIN system requirements that in reality are much to weak to (in some cases) even render the program! [This happened on my 1st PC I mentioned earlier].

ie. It will render the game but it won't fill the screen and it will run at the pace of a 1-wheeled Lada!

(A GTA-IV Benchmark gave me approx 5fps before I tried this! suicidal.gif )

Hi everybody,

I've been trying for the last two days to complete the "Escuela Of The Streets" mission, and finally I just managed to it 15 minutes ago !

I thought that playing at night would help, but this f****** yellow marker arrow finally appeared at noon, and I was almost crying when the cutscene appeared! It works fine now, this is all that i want!

I read that the gunfire in the warehouse was quite harsh... In my opinion, headshots are very usefull, and few bullets are enough to sweep out the warehouse, without using any cheat codes or goods from the vending machine.

I've been waiting for a couple of days before starting it again (as I was getting mad) and tried instead Brucie's runs. The solution might be to restart the mission later (the day after for instance).

Hope it will help other desesperate players. Good luck folks

well, I've stucked on this mission too, but today I did it! Firstly, I launch mission, go for dealer and at the end trouble appeared. I restarted mission by the phone and theft taxi. Secondly, on last crossroad, I lose dealer out of my sight and only when he stops next to warehouse, I went after him. And yellow marker appears! So, my advice - before final stop lose dealer out of your sight. Sorry for my bad english.

Have you played through before and this is a recent problem or has it been like this the whole time?

I ask because I used to have no problem doing the last mission, but after the 3rd patch I started having issues with it. That's where I found my fix for it.

See if just having Fraps in the background fixes it if anyone is still having issues still.

It seems to even out the frame rates even is you're not recording.

I had the same problem, you play the mission and when the dealer stops his car, a yellow arrow is supposed to appear on the road behind him but it doesn't. I have solved it by reducing the graphics settings to a minimum until the resource usage is below the indicated maximum, then I changed the aspect ratio to 4:3. I played the mission, and when the dealer stops his car, a yellow arrow appeared behind me. Moving your car to the yellow arrow will trigger a cut-scene to continue the mission.

This is how to fix that problem:

As you know, First, follow the dealer normally. but If you guys have been doing this mission over and over again, you must be notice there is an alley before the two last right turn.

Drive through the alley, becareful do not sound the horn or hit people in the alley

(Note: you will be leave behind the dealer)

Turn right at the guantanamo ave, then park the car parralel where the dealer will parked

(note: do not hit the dealer car)

stay put there until the dealer car arrive and Moving backwards quickly when manny warn you. Do it until niko far enough from the dealer

after you do that move, you can see the yellow mission arrow appear.

good luck

ok so i did everything possible on here to try and get this damn yellow arrow to show up (mind you im deployed in afghanistan right now and upgrading my computer isnt really an option). first things first nothing i did would spook this guy while following him unless i shot at him (i dont know why but yeah whatever) anyways so one time i decide to do this mission with a police car and was just messing around and while following him i hit the sirens and BAM! spooked him, thus failing the mission. so i retry the mission in the cop car again and and voila, the arrow finnaly showed up (after doing this mission 30+ times) so yeah i just thought i would throw that out there if it helps anyone as to how i got that mission completed! sly.gif
