Psycold
Apparently Saints Row 2 for PC makes GTA 4 for PC look like a masterpiece of porting....which is kinda dissapointing because I wanted a game to hold me over while I wait to see if GTA get's some heavy duty patching (not likely I know, there probably won't be another patch) IGN gave it a 6/10 and every other review says it can be fun but the technical issues make it pretty much unplayable. I know this is a GTA forum but why not discuss the competition as well.
anus
I tried to get into Saints Row 2, since I haven't played the first version yet, but the extremely ancient looking graphics put me off. I mean the game looks like something from the 90s .
RodC
By the topic title and what your saying, I'm not sure if your saying it runs well, or not. Because "masterpiece of porting" sounds like it's gonna run well. Or that's just sarcasm He said it makes GTA4 look like a masterpiece of porting. Psycold
I just wanna warn people so they don't go out and spend 50 bucks and have even worse performance than GTA4. Check out this excerpt from Gaming Heaven's review: "Before we get into the review any further, let me just state that if you are one of the many who had issues with Grand Theft Auto 4 running on your PC then this is one you will certainly want to avoid. I have a Quad Core Intel CPU running at 3ghz with 2 GB of ram and even on my 9800 GTX the game struggles to maintain a good frame rate at a high resolution (1920). I was getting performance around the 15-20 fps mark which I don't think is particularly acceptable in 2009 for such a decent gaming PC. Clearly developers recently feel we should all be running Skulltrail with 3 280 GTXs in SLI to get acceptable performance from our console ports!" From: http://www.gamingheaven.net/gamingreviews.php?reviewid=686 ------ For whatever reason the PC version absolutely chugs. Even on my Intel Core2Quad 2.4 GHz with 2GB RAM, an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX, and a Vista 32 operating system, the game ran between twenty and seven frames per second and had a host of other performance issues. In other words, it was nauseating and almost unplayable. The core gameplay is the same, but the general performance basically kills the experience. SlingShotUK
Thank god this isn't running silky smooth.. Imagine if it had been the perfect example of a port.. All the people using it as another way to bash GTA 4.. I was hoping it might run pretty well as I thought I'd give it a blast. I'm a big fan of these times of games (although nothing beats GTA for the atmosphere and quality) so thought it might be worth trying.
longboardskier
Yeah it's really bad. I have an E6600 C2D @2.4, 8800GTS640 and 2 gigs of ram on XP, and I'm getting between 10-20 FPS running 1280x1024 (native is 1680x1050, but 16:10 is not supported!). I get 30FPS in GTA IV, and it has WAY better graphics! And you can't use your mouse in the menus...you have to toggle.
udedenkz
Now, how customizable are the options in the main menu compared to GTAIV? How is the install size compared to GTAIV? How stable is it? Does it crash more or less frequently than GTAIV? Does there seem to be more options to tweak outside of the game, like config.ini or something of that sort? How much crap is required to run it compared to GTAIV? SP3? .Net? Visual C++? Securom? Games For windows? Saints Row Social Club? Thanks.

Well I haven't played it yet but I'm gonna download it to try it out, no way in hell I am paying for a game that has already been labelled as unfinished...fool me once, shame on you..... The customization is supposed to be great, the main menu I heard is horrible, supposedly worse than GTA since it doesn't even have mouse support. I think as far as bloatware or whatever it's called, it's not nearly as bad as GTA, theres no stupid 3rd party programs you need, and the game was cracked within a couple hours of it being released on Steam, so the Securom can't be too in depth. I'll update my opinions of the game in like 4 hours when I've tried it out
Disposable
Everyone i've spoke too Who own GTA IV and SR 2 (console users) say SR 2 is a far better game... they always say its just more FUN. Psycold
Everyone i've spoke too Who own GTA IV and SR 2 (console users) say SR 2 is a far better game... they always say its just more FUN. I was planning on buying it for the PC i can't see it being better but i still wanna give it ago. I think as far as the consoles go, since the games actually work on there as opposed to PC's, if you were to compare them side by side, GTA4 will initially give better first impressions with better graphics, detail, etc. But when it comes to fun, Saints Row 2 is the game people are STILL playing. I noticed not as many people play GTA on Xbox live as they used too, which is to be said for most games I guess. It brings me to my other theory of why GTA4 turned out the way it is, and why they named it GTA4. I don't think I'm alone when I feel like GTA4 doesn't feel like it has enough to do, once you have finished the story you realize you are in this giant, beautiful world with nothing to do except drive, I mean who really would want to play pool in GTA4? If I wanted to play pool I would play in real life or I would play an actual pool video game. Getting back to why they named it GTA4, I believe this is because the closest thing to GTA4 is GTA3, not Vice City or San Andreas. When GTA3 came out it was hugely successful for having good graphics in the biggest game ever made as well as fun gameplay. After that you have VC and SA which still used the same engine, meaning Rockstar didn't have to start from the ground up for those two. They had GTA3 to work off of, meaning they could spend the majority of their time implementing fun little features. With GTA4, it's a whole new engine, whole new ball game. The game DEFINITELY has more to do in it than GTA3, and obviously a better storyline, but those are pretty much mandatory at this point considering how much money the previous games have made. However, GTA4 has SOOOO much less to do in it than SA or even VC. I think that is the reasoning behind calling it GTA4, because it's the first GTA game with the new engine. This also leads me to believe that the next GTA game will indeed be the best because: 1) They will have more time to add fun features rather than just getting the world set up 2) They will be more familiar with the engine, allowing them to push it's boundaries 3) Hopefully they will have learned from their porting mistakes

Lord of the Flies
I don't care who prefers SR2 or GTA4. Can anyone with a decent rig who's downloaded or purchased SR2 please comment on how the game runs? The review quoted above was based on the performance of a 2.4 quad processor (which would not have been optimised) and only 2gb of ram. I've been able to run GTA IV perfectly with pretty good settings, so I'm really hoping SR2 runs acceptably on my setup. The first SR was fun as hell on xbox and the cheats for SR2 are awesome. Both gameplay and graphics wise GTA 4 pisses all over SR2 .... only a mentally retarded child would enjoy the lackluster gameplay of SR2 combined with the xbox graphics. Move on tool, you have no clue. The review quoted above was based on the performance of a 2.4 quad processor (which would not have been optimised) and only 2gb of ram. For what it's worth: I have a Core2 Quad CPU Q9450 (2.66 Hz) with 4.00 GB RAM (running a fully updated Windows Vista). I have two NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT cards. (Dedicated video memory is 512 MB, memory interface is 256-bit.) I don't do any overclocking at all. With this setup, I have had no major problems (performance-wise) running GTA4 (although I do have a few slight texture problems). Likewise, I have no trouble at all running SR2 from a performance perspective.
grand.theft.auto
NO NO, Saints Row 2 is future proof. you need hardware from the future to get 60+ fps. intel i20 12 cores 7ghz 50gig ddr5 ram 4way gtx 500 sli will get good fps.

Moved to gaming chat. why?? so nobody will see it? I posted it in the PC version area for a reason, because people that play the PC version post in there, and generally don't go into other forums. Do you have to move it because you get in trouble if you don't or do you just like moving stuff around? Wtf difference does it make besides detracting from my original intentions of saving people a few bucks? PLEASE MOVE IT BACK, THIS IS STUPID.
