bidji
well, as benchmarks go, I think anything above a 5% difference is generally regarded as notable gain/loss. in my case, 3 fps from 33 to 36 fps is a gain of 9% or so, so I guess it's fair to call it an improvement. of course, what works for some might not work for others, especially if the gpu isn't what's holding your system back. FX2K
I would love to know how these compare to the 185 betas. For me the 185 betas where un-usable no change in GTA but other games like Fallout 3 & Grid etc where messed up, but thats just me..

TruXter
This game programming is very weak! doesnt even use SLi? so that new 295 is usless with this game? Dude, you say something just like this in every thread where people have hope. I can only assume that the people who do that, are just here to troll. You are clearly off topic from the conversation. If you do not want to try the drivers, but want to join a thread that rants about gtaiv may I be of assistance for you? www.googleisyourfriend.truxter I myself am having an issue with my video card hating Windows 32 It runs in 4 bit or 8 bit mode after I install drivers of any sort. Does anyone know any tricks? or a reasoning ? I mean it works in vista 32 xp64,Xandros,Ubuntu,Sun,windows7 (the os is not ready btw) but not xp

Dungeoncrawler
Seems to have eliminated the texture flicker. Also, in sli I do seem to be getting smoother gameplay. Higher minimal fps maybe? Dc
wse_jack
Just out of question, every one here seems to have a system with mid to high to f*ck-off-high end systems; granted even a mid-low and technicaly even a low-high if not even a low-mid system* meets or surpasses the "recomended" system requierments; so in that for those of us who are at the low end of the spectrum and meet the gpu requierd or any from that level in between, more specificly with the 7 series cards which seem to have seperate issues alltogether... Does this do anything?? Apologies for the lengthy trip to the point, but I dont want to have to go through the trouble of driver changing if its just going to do jack-sh*t. I have a 7900 GTO (512mb) and for me a 3 or 4 or any fps increase as well as any improvment in the smoothness or for that matter any of the above so claimed benifits would be wounderous or at the very least worth the trouble, given most of you guys seem to have frame rates that make even the console version its b*tch, or at least thus so when factoring in the increased resolutions and distance draw and such... I just am woundering if when people say dosent do sh*t, is more or less just a reletive term to that they cant tell the difference because they are running things at a level that it wouldent show up. The difference between the difference between 5 fps and 8 fps, 10 fps and 13 fps, the difference between 15 fps and 18 or 20 fps is an exponential scale in game performance for the most part and that difference between say 5 and 8 or 10 and 13 is going to be signifigant, while the difference between 25 and 28 or 33 and 36 or 40 and 43 is going to come off as plesent to meh. Thus as stated, I just want to know if people like me with the min gpu requierments SPECIFICLY the 7900+ end cards are going to be affected given the individual issues they have that the 8 series or above cards dont share. I havent frapsed this or done any bench marking Ill download so I have them but before I go through the effort of changing out my drivers which is realy f*cking annoying expecial given how its like a coin toss as to wether or not your settings will be able to be transfered, not to mention wether or not they changed the adjustment peramerters on things like color settings, as well as what kind of tabs and options you have. Fortunetly Im using a monitor that dosent explicitly need color correction as of now but when I get another CRT and after it starts to die as I did with my previous monitor up untill it officialy went overboard**, if I have a semi-complex color adjustment and NEED it for normal color and brightness apearance.... well what the f*ck?!?^ *Low and high are at a massive gap in between eachother these days given the rate of technology and the staticism of what games requier thanks to the dumbass corperate console factor (games for windows counts as such, expecialy given that it gives microsoft a foot in the door to keep developers who would have otherwise shot past this in a reletivly staticised or limited level, in both technology and gameplay given the blatent limits of consoles in controls and technology, microsoft seems to and has reason to keep this that way to keep the standards low in regard to the consoles that might disalow the cheep quality of the average "GOOD" game if people start to expect ACTUAL advancments and improvments in allmost every aspect of the structure in games these days). ^I mean why give complex color options and profile saves that dont carry over in ANY regard, not to mention why in the hell would you go from settings that allow adjustment multiple incriments PER full interger of 100, to some half assed every 4 or every 5, f*ck even every 1 increment (though if that was changed, and became a standard over all I could understand) either way its regoddamneddiculous contenuosly changing the peramerters on the control pannel for the EXACT SAME F*CKING OPTIONS!!! and I suppose this little rant expecialy in this channel is going to do and get absolutly nothing lol but I couldent help it. **The brightness or something kept changing back and forth in small but noticable incriments (made sure it wasent just a button or buttons that were being keyed or anything on the monitors osd) every few secconds, funny thing is that happened after I changed and upgraded my drivers and no matter how I uninstalled or re-installed, even hooking it up to another f*king computer with a completly different brand of gpu, that problem remained... hmmm, if any one knows anything about such an issue regarding crts or any way to fix it outside of actualy phisicaly going in and refurbishing it to a factory default, any thing that might either be the cause or as I said even fix it it I would be beyond greatfull, all in all LCDs f*cking suck ass. Color, performance, image quality, and versitility; even the highest end lcd and plasma screens dont compare to the high end crts and the crts still cost allmost exponentialy less, how sad is that, that no one seems to be using them that much any more. FX2K
so i could just install a new driver? and when installed can i just delete the old one Dont un-install when you install the new one, otherwise you will completely un-install if that makes sense A decent way to check for conflicting versions is to go into Nvidia Control Panel Click on System information (bottom left) Click on Components There you will see Nvidia DLL files and their corresponding version Or to be more thorough, run a DXDiag report and check in there. Just installing the driver over the top can sometimes cause conflicts for example NVGameS.dll being version 7.15.11.8100 and NVGameSR.dll being version 7.15.1.8120 etc etc If your still not sure, theres loads of guides on 'best methods' for installing new drivers, no point me re-posting the info. el badman
No real difference as far as FPS for me (even a slight decrease of 1/2 a FPS in the benchmark), but it's true that it seems to keep the performance from fluctuating as much as it used to (even with some shadows density, which I can use again now), so it does seem smoother overall. Not gonna say no to that, but I still hope a 2nd patch will do much more.
MagnAn
Wow, I didn't think drivers could be so worthless (for me at least). In Far Cry 2 I lost a shocking 12, yes I said 12 FPS! In GTA IV I lost about 6-7 FPS! I have a 8800 GT, quad core 2.4 and vista 32. The 185.20 drives were almost equally worthless.
