in GTA's graphic settings doc it states the following :

SLI is currently unsupported. Support will be added through a future game patch as well as an updated Nvidia driver

So we are all still waiting on R* to keep its end of the deal with another patch !

Pleasee Dont Buy that Crap!

This game is Done and Dusted mate!

Even if SLi is Patched, I bet they will program it to only make a 15% boost for Quad 295Gtx

lol

Th3 ProphetMan

Up to 10% performance increase in 3DMark Vantage (performance preset)

Up to 13% performance increase in Assassin's Creed

Up to 13% performance increase in BioShock

Up to 15% performance increase in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts

Up to 10% performance increase in Crysis Warhead

Up to 25% performance increase in Devil May Cry 4

Up to 38% performance increase in Far Cry 2

Up to 18% performance increase in Race Driver: GRID

Up to 80% performance increase in Lost Planet: Colonies

That and most of the features mentioned in the first paragraph have been added to the release notes of drivers for months now, that's why it doesnt even mention GTA4.

Im not giving a damn about new forceware drivers unless R* recommends them, and even then i wont expect much performance gain tounge.gif

So anyway, the release notes mention NOTHING about GTA4, ergo, I don't believe it will affect the game at all.

Dont mention but that doesn mean that dont run better.... suicidal.gif

They improve the whole driver, so now... i can tell for sure improved my GTA IV... specially the textures now render faster...

From my point of view, the drivers can handle much better more informtion than the previous drivers... TRANSLATED... Improvments in all games...

There is a GTA IV profile included in the driver so it's a possibility it already has the nvidia fixes included.

If you read the "Exciting New Features" of the 180.48 and the 181.20,

there aren't any new features other than the added support for the 285, 295 cards and CUDA apps.

those are just the release highlights for major milestones, namedropping for marketing, etc. it would be impractical for them to post all the fixes there. you have to download the release notes pdf that comes with each version, there you will see pages and pages of bugs for each platform, every version is going to list a ton of edits. if you want to know about specific bug fixes for games/drivers/apps that's where you'll find them.

Yeah, very good drivers. They help me with THIS annoying problem.

But I didnt take note about higher FPS (bechnmark showing me +/- same numbers).

The drivers seem to increase the wild fluctuations in FPS whilst nothing is going on, ie looking at wall in flat or on startup page with the game options, the drivers do not improve the experience on XP or Vista 64, I would've reverted back to 180.84s if I only played GTAIV, but these seem to help with my other games.

gained 3fps

with all the wild fluctuations in FPS on the standard black screen on startup how can you tell?

Was that 3FPS gain in benchmark...cough

or ingame...even bigger phlegm filled cough

Since nobody in this thread so far wants to contribute in a positive manner, I suppose I will. Can't say I notice any difference, but that may be because the game already runs perfect for me.

I would call the SLI option for GTA4 an "exciting new feature". They've added that and it seems to be working.

And according to the GTA4 benchmark I've lost a few fps with this new driver, but it looks like I'm not lagging anymore in the few parts of the map, at night, when it's raining.

Also it looks like I have textures popping in occasionally, which I didn't have before.

Anyone who isnt playing GTA 4 in HIGH textures is missing out, thats all I got to say.

Too right.

I guess you only play GTA then ?

Drivers are a major cause of instability, so even if GTA isnt mentioned, other fixes are worthwhile having.

The simple fact that they are not beta drivers is better than nothing since the recommended drivers are beta versions.

R* are slow to update their information, it took them almost a week to update the startup / social club TV to reflect that new drivers where available, and also about 3 days before these screens also mentioned a patch.

But if you must wait for R* to advise you to install the latest available WHQL driver rather than the guys who actually manufacture the chipset releasing a new driver then thats upto you.

Thing is, that isn't even the best comparison. just take screens of Niko himself and compare the textures then, especially with some detailed like the Albanian biker jacket.

Then you will truly see the difference.

@JBFord4x4: How can you try and even give a legitimate comparison with two different draw settings, draw is one of the biggest factors in any GTA game. Keep settings the same when benching or your results are pointless.

Anyone on Vista 64 having issues with these drivers? It takes a lot longer to get to my login screen now and even longer to load the desktop, maybe just residual crap left behind from other drivers? I guess rolling back would be one way to tell.

EDIT: turned out to be an unrelated issue, resolved now, drivers seem to work alright but no apparent difference as far as frames go, though my frames have been pretty playable with only a little dropping here and there.

I accept that is a rather selective shot, though the review is one that is intended as a positive from HardOCP but Nova on another thread has this image

Now there are differences that we can all see, though hardly what one would call so stark as to class one or the other as High res, the thing is try and tell someone that has never played GTAIV before that one of those is a High quality texture shot from a game released at the very end of 2008 and they'd call you a liar, the face texture is just so half arsed for something that is on display for the entire game, you can shortcut various floor textures and the like but when you leave the bland lacking in detail 1990's style textured face like that, you really are showing your public you couldn't give a f*ck.

I run on 1920x1200 and attrocious jaggies aside, I am thouroughly underwhelmed by the 'effort' in updating the textures for the PC version.

I played the PS3 version and from a performance viewpoint that was the better experience, I bought this for PC because I wanted the obvious serious upgrade from that.

Have never before played a game at 1920x1200 that looked so sh*t and required AA, not a extra to spoil me like in every single game I've ever played at that res but it actually requires AA the jaggies are so bad, yet is touted as next-gen uber detailed graphics.

The difference between and high and low in GTAIV is too slight for a game brought out in this modern day and age, besides which, it makes zero difference to my framerate performance whichever I choose.

If anyone here is honest enough and had never played GTAIV, most would guess the one on the right is 'Very Low' texture with the one on the left the 'Low detail', and would expect at least 3 more levels of Medium, high and very high texture detail above that.

Yes I noticed it shortly after. Later I will do another benchmark with the render settings on high.

I don't know why people think 3 fps is a gain. I ran the bench 3 time with each driver I have a 3 fps discrepancy between the same driver. The benches displayed above where the highest score of each. Game play seems the same. If it looks different to you its probably because you had some different settings in the control panel. Then the new driver reset everything. I will try it on 64 bit later.
