I also do not express any opinion of the World trade center attacks on 9/11. Many people i have talked to about GTAIV have shown alot of interest in ground zero and the world trade center location in the game. This got me interested, so i decided to do a bit of an investigation and find out where in Algonquin (the middle island) the towers would have stood. Thanks to PestilenceJM for this great comparison photo. so go there and check it out for yourself, look for the buildings in game with the green roofs, they match almost exactly to the ones in the photo opposite the towers. I wouldn't have minded the Twin Towers being in the game, would've been pretty cool actually. Alot of sh*t would be done by alot of idiots which are out there with the video-option of the game. And while gta4 ist mostly a satire, this content would have been too serious. Amaze Posted January 8, 2009 Share Posted January 8, 2009 I think it's good that they left it out completely. if there was a ground zero you'd have to wonder what happened in this fictional liberty city. if the towers was there it would have been stupid also since they dont exist anymore in what was the model for liberty city. how accurate is the city otherwise? if you knew your way around nyc could you find the same streets,slopes, buildings etc. ? I travel to NYC every year, because its just THE city in the world. First: Liberty City is (of course) muuuuuuch smaller than the real NewYorCity. BUT: Alot of things or landmarks are in the game and the buildings, streets, ppl etc. look very familiar. The traffic in the game at 100% is realistic, too, but in real NYC, especially in manhattan/Alonquin are MUCH more pedestrians, maybe ten or 15 times more than in the game. The only things I'm really dissapointed are the missing airmuseum USS Intrepid (that would have been a good location to use helicopters or jets) at the hudson river and the way too small central park. The feeling of being in the middle of nature like you get in in the real park isnt there at all. I still have the project, it was never successful in SA (only one tower could be displayed, the other didn't appear, or the game crashed) but I think that in IV map modders will be able to add some nice stuff. I want to add my old Dover International Speedway (a Nascar track) and Ochersleben Motor Raceway from TOCA Race Driver 3 to GTA IV just like I did with SA. And maybe put also the Drift City. See the tall pointy building that looks like a chair with armrests that's between the Twin Towers in the photo? In Liberty City the pointy building is across the street from the green-roofed buildings in the foreground of your photo. They squeezed the streets together so there's no place to put the WTC. The WTC complex was enormous and a lot of existing Algonquin buildings would have to be sacrificed. Also the skyline will look weird because Algonquin is so small that midtown is practically downtown -- Niko could probably jump from the roof of the WTC to the Empire State. OK, not really, but my point is there's no room for the WTC. If modders attempt to put the Twin Towers in, there will be other issues like the maximum ceiling for helicopters being lower than the Empire State Building and the WTC being even taller. Yep, I faced that problem when I was trying to place the WTC in SA. However, it's just a matter of time till someone finds out in which file is the heigh limit for flying. They always do. Then, you can create big buildings. About the space, it's true that the WTC complex was much bigger than the two Twin Towers, and there's no space in GTA IV to place them. But, it's just a matter of hiding in the ground some buildings and make space for it. It may not be as realistic as I would want... but at least, it's there. Btw, I don't do the WTC to hurt anyone. It's just that fits well in NYC = LC and it's an important building, and was really beautiful. I don't care who took it down, if it was a terrorist attack or not, I just care about the innocent people that died there. I Think if that would be the truth it kinnda sucks ballz Im not sure i would believe this, firstly because the game is set in 2008, seven years after the attack and secondly because R* announced that there would be no reference to the towers or to ground zero. Also, R* announced that flyable planes wouldnt be included because they would cover too much area too quickly.
