bldrgnslyr
so i finally got gta working. i was expecting minimal (although these are still pretty low, but im happy) settings with the lowest resolution. heres my benchmark : Statistics Average FPS: 22.91 Duration: 37.02 sec CPU Usage: 93% System memory usage: 52% Video memory usage: 44% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1024 x 768 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: Medium Render Quality: Low View Distance: 20 Detail Distance: 10 Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Video Driver version: 180.84 Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio rear output Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.00GHz File ID: Benchmark.cli and dont bother saying "thats a sh*t framerate and sh*t specs and sh*t settings" cause i dont care, im happy it ran pretty well. at this fps its not jittery when just driving around or running and shooting or whatever, but if i start running people down or something it slows down a couple of frames. again i was expecting like 5 fps with lowest settings. i have novsync enabled and available memory 2.0 and minspecaudio in my commandline.txt, which my have jumped it a few fps. also i noticed framerates dont differ when changing a resolution, neither does it change when changing an insignificant thing like detail view. so if you want it to look a bit better with no-minimal slow down move these things up a bit. also i have 512mb of video ram and 4 gig of ddr2 ram. im happy, so thanks rockstar! lets just wait for second patch to fix some needed things, such as audio problems and shadows.......... turbo1508
So that must be like 12-15 fps in game, i wish i was so easily pleased.
bldrgnslyr
Actaully in game it runs around 20 fps, not that low.....just because some people have dramatic differences from the benchmark fps to the in game fps doesnt mean everyone does......like myself. Sorry, if the benchmark shows just over 20 you are not averaging 20 FPS in game. More likely 15ish with low points closer to 10 or even in the single digits. Unless of course you are different from every other user and don't get a high benchmark score than an in game average. Yep that must be it! Glad your happy (no sarcasm) however I hardly consider sub 20 FPS on a pathetic resolution "enjoyable" *I'm only "trolling" because this topic was not thread worthy. Waste of board space... Or maybe I should create one on how I'm happy that I get to sleep in tomorrow?
bldrgnslyr
hmmm... seems like we have a wanker on the forums....you must be right because you said it champ and actually there are plenty of people interested in how it runs on my type of computer so yeah sorry to disappoint you
Chevyboy
hmmm... seems like we have a wanker on the forums....you must be right because you said it champ and actually there are plenty of people interested in how it runs on my type of computer so yeah sorry to disappoint you I don't recall saying it doesn't run on any type (I'm gonna try my C64 after this) so what exactly are you referring to? Its common knowledge here that the in game benchmark will ALWAYS give you higher FPS than you will actually AVERAGE in game. Not sure what your post about it running on anything has to do one bit with what I posted. I simply stated that your 10-15 FPS average at most in game on a sh*tty resolution would be unacceptable to most users, regardless of how happy you are with it... wanker
MooMetal
hmmm... seems like we have a wanker on the forums....you must be right because you said it champ and actually there are plenty of people interested in how it runs on my type of computer so yeah sorry to disappoint you i have similar performance than you and i'm satisfied. It's playable and i've completed the game already. It's definitely enjoyable.

Chevyboy
no matter what i say, you will no doubt have another rant.....so ill just leave it, captain bitch-erella. Ok... I would ask where this "rant" I made was but since you've left it I guess its a pointless question. I guess those 3-4 sentences with proper spelling and rational and logical thought processes were too much for you. I apologize. To clear it up for you. I didn't once say it wouldn't run on your system. I simply pointed out that your 20ish benchmark FPS was closer to 10-15 tops in game average. I followed up by stating that 10-15 FPS is not enjoyable, at least to those that are used to gaming with many times that as an average. I DID call you a wanker after you senselessly and unjustly called me out (calling me a wanker in the process) by what I can only assume was you reading a post from another thread and thinking it was mine as I made no reference to what your hardware could or could not do. Have a good one... captian bitch-erella?

bldrgnslyr
Lets sum this up with= this game works on a pentium d, so for those of you with a pentium d, you can run it, which i didnt think was possible. The End.
Dreakon
I simply pointed out that your 20ish benchmark FPS was closer to 10-15 tops in game average. Interesting... here's my benchmark. StatisticsAverage FPS: 15.46 Duration: 37.51 sec CPU Usage: 84% System memory usage: 68% Video memory usage: 61% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1280 x 1024 (75 Hz) Texture Quality: Low Render Quality: Low View Distance: 1 Detail Distance: 1 Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Series Video Driver version: 6.14.10.6891 Audio Adapter: Realtek AC97 Audio Genuine Intel® CPU 3.60GHz I have an average fps in the benchmark of 15 with my Pentium D 3.6Ghz and all the specs you can see up there. I've taken more benchmarks then just this, by the way. By your logic, I should be running the game probably around 5 or so fps, 10 if I'm lucky (or "tops" as you call it). I assume this since the 20-ish benchmark runs around 10-15 fps in game, according to you. My benchmark is 15-ish. It should go without saying that if 30fps or so at least is required to make a game seem smooth, 5-10fps should just be absolutely unplayable. Yet here I stand, having beaten 75% of the missions and some of the hardest ones in the game. Running around messing with people is a lot of fun and escaping the police at 3 stars has become so easy for me. All of this at 5-10fps? I don't think so... Moral of the story? Don't tell people how the game runs for them. I think the benchmark avg FPS is closer to in-game than you think. Even if I'm an exception, you don't know everything, as much as I think you'd like to pretend. Keep your pretty little mouth (or hands in this case) shut, you aren't helping anyone. As for the OP, I like this thread. Being a Pentium D owner, it's always interesting to hear how the game runs for others. I'm glad it's working out! turbo1508
hahahhahah thats a good one. You could probably complete the game with 3-5 fps if you really wanted to. Judging by your benchmark, your doing just fine
Kakashi_sensei
Hahaha why on earth do people have to be so damn irritable when it comes to this game. All the people who troll and rant and cry etc etc etc seriously need to get a life... To the OP, thanks for posting this, because I'm almost certain that there are other people with Pentium D's who are considering purchasing the game, and thus your post would be insightful to them P.s. I play GTAIV on a Pentium 4 believe it or not and it works just fine surprisingly! I think the benchmark thing is very close to actual in-game performance, EXCEPT when it comes to places like Star Junction, or if there are huge explosions etc. Anyway, lets hope and pray that more of these geeks don't come cry about your post
Kovad
so i finally got gta working. i was expecting minimal (although these are still pretty low, but im happy) settings with the lowest resolution. heres my benchmark : *benchmark result* and dont bother saying "thats a sh*t framerate and sh*t specs and sh*t settings" cause i dont care, im happy it ran pretty well. at this fps its not jittery when just driving around or running and shooting or whatever, but if i start running people down or something it slows down a couple of frames. again i was expecting like 5 fps with lowest settings. i have novsync enabled and available memory 2.0 and minspecaudio in my commandline.txt, which my have jumped it a few fps. also i noticed framerates dont differ when changing a resolution, neither does it change when changing an insignificant thing like detail view. so if you want it to look a bit better with no-minimal slow down move these things up a bit. also i have 512mb of video ram and 4 gig of ddr2 ram. im happy, so thanks rockstar! lets just wait for second patch to fix some needed things, such as audio problems and shadows.......... Agreed. Game runs at an average FPS of 21-22, quite playable on my Pentium D 3.6 (OC'ed from 3.4) , 8600GT 512MB, 2gig Ram. I have medium & medium, 1152x864, 20/22/40/1. bldrgnslyr
thanks for the support, i agree that at these settings and this fps it is indeed playable. its good to know others with similar specs to mine are enjoying this great game. proves that you dont need the latest hardware to play a game if you dont intent on pushing those settings sliders all the way up
frodo baggins
OP I think you should write what your in-game FPS is as well so these guys don't come in lolling their way with 'haha you must get like -5 fps in-game then' Good to hear this, though it's slightly depressing as I have a much better system and yet I have similar fps rates
bldrgnslyr
as i said in the second post in game it runs at about 20 fps, ranging from 18-21/22, and if there is alot going on screen, it lowers a few more, to perhaps 15 or so. something you can also do is alt+tab when your at the main screen, open task manager and right click on GTAIV.exe and set priority to high. i havent tried it without doing this, so perhaps this is one of the reasons it runs relatively well on this low end processor. My CPU is OC'ed to 3.4 GHz. Traffic density is set to 100 and shadow density to 1. Installing Vista and using some tweaks helped me to increase fps by 8-10. bldrgnslyr
woah thats impressive partyboy. i think how your running it so well is that your gpu is probably taking a fair load of off you cpu, whereas my gpu is being underworked. lucky you enjoy the game
