noVa
i don't like it tbh, rather use a proper program and fraps, now if i could only get fraps to record my audio it's a real pain the arse having an expensive soundcard when you play games

If you did not watch it yet you should try this one.

Coldkilla
Last time: FRAPs will not allow you to do stuff the video editor does... Sure the video editor has its problems (and there are many), but over all, I absolutely love it. It's great that I can simply hit "F2" and go back and check out some hilarious stuff that happened a few days back.

It records longer than 30 seconds (I tend to get 1:30ish) plus you can always hit F2 a few times and edit the overlapping of the video out

On the other hand, it could record as much to 2 minutes with less stuff going on. It's mainly off of performance. Hitting F2 every 10-20 seconds usually does the trick for me (for longer, more intense videos), just to be safe.
magel
Love the editor to. I tend to only get 30sec clips max. Never get over and usualy 20 -30 secs. Only thing I don't like is when you choose the output format eg 720p or 1080p is you watch the file being rendered and created. Does anyone else think that process would be alot faster without watching it being created?

Yeah I love the edittor, ive yet to make a video worth watching...but I still love it As others have said, I can see why its 'aways recording' so to speak, however would have been good to have an option to start & stop recording using hot keys, along with as you mentioned disabling the preview during render

The preview is annoying... is as bad as waiting for the video to upload i do hate waiting I did minimize it and played around on the internet... went back into it thinking maybe its done now but BOOOO, it pauses

Granted the game only creates a 30sec clip, doesn't mean that the recorded data isn't being cleared from the ram. Good idea about the hot keys aswel. Don't really see why we need the purview during render anyway since we can view the video before creating an end file anyways .
Coldkilla
I wish there was a really low resolution render. So I could render an entire video in under a minute to see how all of the clips flow together, and then take the plundge and hit "render in 720p" and go watch a movie, or 2, or 3. Many professional video editors show the preview window going frame by frame as the video is rendering as well. What would be nice is a little option to have a small timer on your hud showing how much footage is stored away on your RAM... so when you get back to the editor, you can feel at ease knowing your whole clip made it there in full. Disposable
Is hard to know how the previous clip will blind with the following clip, preview is pretty pointless as you have to watch the loading screen between clips which is rather stupid, Is there no way of watching the saved file of the video you've been editing In C:\Users\Username\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\videos F2 clips take up a lot of room... 3.42GB right now and theres not much in there

Yea good point. Would be good to see a preview of the edited videos prior to rendering. I'd also love to be able to set the bit-rate of the output video aswel. I convert my gta vids prior to upload to you tube, have to because they are to big for raw upload as I'm sure you all know. It creates a 14.2mbps file @ 1080p, I then convert it down to 4000kbps to make a more upload friendly file, also to add text an music.. Reducing the kbps any further creates to much distortion . What are other peoples experiences? DisposableIn C:\Users\Username\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\videos F2 clips take up a lot of room... 3.42GB right now and theres not much in there I currently have 11.2 gig! might do some deleting! noVa
hitting f2 all the time waiting for the game to lag then save the clip really doesn't appeal to me lol, should really have the clip feature working like fraps or atleast have a second function like fraps where you can hit a button to record and then stop, so hit a button it records all the game actions from that point until you run out of resources to do so or you hit stop, for me that would be a lot better. i know you can't do stuff like you can with the clip editor like changing camera position etc and i said i like that stuff, but with a camera hack and fraps i could do something very similar, it's fine for purely incidental stuff like funny crashes etc but if im setting out to actually make something i'd really like something more to work with, but it's not why i bought the game and really is a 3rd concern for me. being able to import video would be nice also, but then they'd get all sorts of random stuff getting uploaded to that crappy site they have for the videos. Sorkenlol
So how does this program work? Do you just start it and play while it records, and then it lets you edit it?
magel
So how does this program work? Do you just start it and play while it records, and then it lets you edit it? hit F2 to record the last 20 or 30 secs of game play then open up your phone and select the video editor after you've finished making clips.. The problem with that is you'd have to know something worth recording is going to happen, unless planned... With F2 it saves the back video of what happened making it so useful. noVa
^ you see the only time i think about making a video is when i do plan something so yeh its a good feature and works well, it's just not designed for what i want to do. So how does this program work? Do you just start it and play while it records, and then it lets you edit it? hit F2 to record the last 20 or 30 secs of game play then open up your phone and select the video editor after you've finished making clips.. also that annoys me, having to go into video editor each time to see how a clip turned out then getting carted back to your safe house Edited January 8, 2009 by noVa
