doyle8889
Hello people this is my first post on these forums so i dont know if this is where this question should be. But anyway my pc is getting lag in gta iv and no other games for some reason. I went out and bought an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ processor for my comp, is that processor fast enough to run gta iv. My full system specs are: PSU: 500w (not sure of make and model) Main Board: Asus M2N-MX SE Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200+ 2.4ghz (should i set it to 2.6ghz in the BIOS?) Ram: 2x 1gb DDR2 Kingston Ram Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 9500 GT 512mb Hard Drive: 500gb Western Digital SATA Drive (partition 1 (C:) = 50gb and partition 2 (D:) = 415gb By judging from that my comp should be able to run GTA iv, am i wrong? well anyway thanks in advance, doyle8889
Bobby Budnick
Your graphics card is way too weak unfortunately. You could maybe try to force 320x240 resolution or something. Everything else is ok.

doyle8889
and another thing how do i force the game to run at the resolution stated above?
Bobby Budnick
I was joking about forcing the resolution. But with command line parameters (width, height) for the game you can manually "force" a resolution. You have enough RAM. Do some research on graphics cards though. Jc84144
If you're after a Nvidia graphics card this will help you http://www.nvidia.com/HelpMeChoose/fx/HelpMeChoose.asp. It has all Nvidias currenct graphics cards, you can filter out graphics cards depending on the maximum budget [$200] and your psu power [500watt]. It also gives you information about each card, and how it performs in comparison to others ["graphics performance" part] just click on the cards for it to give you the info. Hope that helps. The highest performing card for your budget and PSU on there is the 512mb 9800GTX+ Edited January 8, 2009 by Jc84144
Danstone
I have a problem too, it laggs on my pc even on low graphics, my specs are: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3,1Ghz Ati Radeon HD4550 512MB RAM 3GB System Windows Vista Home Premium
GTA_XP
9500GT desktop is compared to 9600M GT notebook. You should get 23 FPS average, but ingame is it like 26FPS. Try this settings: Res: 1024x768 Texture: Medium Render: Highest View distance: 1 Detail distance: 50 Vehicle: 50 Shadow: 0 These are the settings I used to get playable FPS. You can try them, if not working you can set them by yourself.

Lol, no it isn´t. I have 320 MB memory, and it works fine. Heck, i can even run everything on high, with decent speed.

WindedTrash
I also have a laggy buggy game that crashes every 1 hour. notimefix command helped me somehow but the gameplay is just way too fast I think its my ram that is the problem, because when i start the game, fps is good and all, 40 fps no lag. When i have played like 30 mins it starts lag but fps is the same it just starts to lag and its f*cking annoying. I bought more ram and im gonna get it from the local post today and i hope its worth the money. I now have 2 gb ram and im getting 4 gb more

Your getting lag because your game settings are too high. For a proper experiance in GTAIV you need at least a higher end C2D/or Equivelent and a 8800GT or higher. That would give you a nice gaming experiance. Otherwise, bear with it and turn the graphics down.
MonkeyMhz
try buying a new pc No buy a console there the game is working great no lags and such things Console version is decent but after playing GTAIV on my PC. CharmingCharlie
No buy a console there the game is working great no lags and such things That's funny I get close to 60fps when I lower GTA 4 down to console settings, hm I wonder if the console version can do GTA 4 at 60fps ??? Oh wait it can't it has been shown that it dips to 20fps.

Lodis
try buying a new pc No buy a console there the game is working great no lags and such things I have GTA IV on the Xbox 360 and I also have it on my gaming laptop. If you play the console version for any length of time you will realise that there are lags, stuttering and it is already at lower resolutions and overall settings than the PC version. After playing it on my gaming laptop, I never play it on my console anymore. It plays a lot better, looks better and doesn't lagg on my gaming laptop like it does on my console and I can also mod it. I would never recommend buying GTA IV on the console over the PC version ever. You can also tweak the PC versions settings in game and outside in the Nvidia Control Panel to get even more performance. I also find that GTA IV runs even better on Windows 7 than it does on XP, it even looks better for some reason and this is just the RC 7100 version.
