okei
ok so i have this mobo Manufacturer ASucksTek Computer INC. Product NARRA3 Version 3.02 Serial Number MS1C81R82101711 taken from everest btw i want to know the best processor i can upgrade to for that motherboard, also if i cant do that i would like somebody to suggest a decent dual core (core 2 duos are faster than this tripe) because i know the phenom 9500 is slow and crap and its a bottleneck. thanks Edited January 7, 2009 by okei

anus
I think your motherboard can take the Phenom II. So I recommend going with a Phenom II 940 for a really good performance boost. Btw, the Phenom II is not crap. It gives the i7 a really good run for its money. Man I'm so happy to see AMD back .
3niX
Well... Its arguable about the Core i7 getting a run for its money... but AMD really has stepped up its game with the Phenom II. So, upgrading to one would be a good choice.
anus
There are some benchmarks where the PII 940 performs on par or slightly better than the i7 940. But I agree that its not faster than an i7 965. Still, like you said, its a good upgrade from a Phenom I to a Phenom II .

okei
ok sorry for the bump and double post but.. i read on the hp website and it says "Phenom with Quad Core technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt)" yeah.. upto 9600 but, would i actually still be able to actually use the 95watt phenom ii? because this info might be outdated when there were no phenom II's existing and where it says "up to 9600 (up to 95 watt)" does that mean that anything above the 9600 at the time of *publication* was above 95 watt tdp and im not actually limited to processer as long as its a 95watt? i dont know much about processors and if your wondering why i bumped it a few months later that is because i suddenly had a second thought about this after i get my new case
Democrab
I would seriously say get a new motherboard first, 1. ASUS sucks (Their AMD boards aren't that bad, tbh), 2. It looks like your board only has the VRMs to handle 95w of power for the CPU, which means with the 125w Phenom II 940 x4, your VRM area on the motherboard would probably burn/melt from being overloaded... While you could get a few of the lower end Quad Cores, I'd say get a Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition and a better motherboard, if you get a SB750 Gigabyte or Biostar, you might be able to unlock the hidden core and get a Phenom II X4 910 with an unlocked multiplier. (Makes overclocking easier)
okei
Doesn't the Phenom II X4 910 have a TDP of 95 watts? I read that it uses the AM3 socket but I don't know if that means it's also compatible with an AM2+ socket (I heard that both were backwards compatible but if not then please correct me). Oh yeah, if I do buy a new motherboard, will I still be able to use my current RAM and will I have any problems since this is an HP Pavilion computer? In terms of motherboards and CPUs, I don't have much experience or knowledge.
anus
I really don't think that an nForce 4xx series otherboard like yours will support any Phenom IIs. The chipset is just too old. You can get a AM3 ready board that will use your DDR2 RAM fine, but I recommend you save up and go for full AM3 with DDR3.
okei
What would you recommend from these choice of motherboards? http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/catego...|c:3529|&Sort=1 If I ever get the money, I don't really feel like spending over £100 in total. (That includes things like VAT & delivery costs). Edited June 12, 2009 by okei
anus
Go for this instead. Within your budget and a great board with a great chipset too. That site you linked to seems overpriced.
