PhonixMonk
I've got an issue in regards to my graphics. I seem to lose quite a lot of Frames-Per-Second, this has been occurring for roughly a month (happened after I changed my video settings, simply changed the resolution once and since then it's been laggy for me). I realise that I get wavy transparent blocks flowing through my screen while I lag, and I reckon it may be the smoke effect caused by certain things such as guns being shot (thus producing a cloud of gun smoke), dust produced after landing on the ground or knocking over a breakable object such as a chain-fence, etc. I'd like to know if there is any way I can stop these effects? They're quite a nuisance at the moment as they lag me quite a lot, especially online where there are instances, such as in DM servers, where smoke is being produced by multiple guns being fired. I've tried re-installing my game, playing with the original game files, but it's still occuring... I'm wondering if there's a way to mod these effects out of the game? I'd appreciate if anyone knows whether this is possible, or if anyone's had the same or a similar problem, any attempts to resolve this would be useful to know of. Girish
Did you delete the gta_sa.set file from the User Files folder after reinstalling? If not, do it. Also, it'd help if you tell us your entire system specifications.
PhonixMonk
Did you delete the gta_sa.set file from the User Files folder after reinstalling? If not, do it. Also, it'd help if you tell us your entire system specifications. I didn't delete the gta_sa.set file which you speak of after reinstalling, I wasn't aware it existed. I have deleted it now, however. Also, here are my system specifications: Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: HP G6000 Notebook PC BIOS: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.1 Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~1.9GHz Memory: 1982MB RAM Page File: 1023MB used, 2852MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M Display Memory: 256.0 MB Sound device: Conexant HD Audio output / Conexant HD Audio input
Girish
It's a decent configuration but mobile video cards aren't that good for gaming. Have you tried running the game on low settings?
[SM]CJZera
Also, could it be the heat wave effect?
GTArv
Also, could it be the heat wave effect? +1. PhonixMonk, could you post a screenshot of it? Try playing the game at reduced display settings. If you want to get rid of the heat haze effect, use a trainer that allows you to change the weather, such as the SA Control Center.
PhonixMonk
It seems girishb's solution (deleting the gta_sa.set file) has worked! I no longer get granulated graphics or lag problems from gun/object smoke. Thanks so much for telling me about this Also, I will also be trying out this heat-wave removal program, as I do find that heat-wave quite irritable also, so thanks for posting it, and thanks to everyone for their contribution in helping me solve this issue.
