TruXter
i have a feeling you aren't thinking this out, or another v"future proof troll" you are using an operating system that isn't even in beta. uninstall the unsupported operating system and install a supported one. your hardware will be fine. when windows seven is out and released , there will be a patch to add it to the line of operating systems. probably will not be a mandatory patch, will be on the site or something. like vice citie's patch said " if you are not an ati video card user having the specified issues you should not bother installing this patch, for it will not do anything for you. of course trolls where coming here telling newbs that it sped up their gameplay on their nvidia video cards. lead to follow up threads saying ' my video card is broke now" so, yeah. trolls are nothing new. a bit more tame and a whole lot less malicious than they used to be ;-) but hey, good job, you made it a few hours before anyone noticed.. FX2K
Besides all of that, how about doing a real comparison using the exact same graphical settings Obvioulsy changing the draw distance to 100 is going to cause something, since its CPU bound more than GPU

If you'll notice I got better FPS on an 8800 GTS with HIGHER settings than with the GTX 280. By the way I just ran the benchmark again here are my stats. flyer2359
try lowering your view distance and detail distance as there isn't a huge difference between 70 down to 50 and try texture quality at medium and render quality on high
LSD T
Sorry to say it but that is about right, this game is horrifically ported. Then again, you could take Truxters' advice and install on a fresh XP or even better Vista 64 OS, it's supposed to be highly optimised for Vista 64 but unfortunately it's not and plays like sh*t. The trouble with the rather disingenuous folk on these forums is that they'll lead you to the unfortunate conclusion that upgrading your average GPU to the top end will make THE difference, what they never told you is they are lying c*nts. I have stripped out a new Vista 64 install, I have pretty much raped its entire bloat, it now runs with 53FPS in benchmark(20FPS on a standard Vista 64 install), however in-game that is a stuttering ugly mess, with your setup you can only hope to have 20-25FPS in-game, maybe 43 FPS in banchmark on a known OS like Vista(dont waste your time) or XP (preferable). I have read here and elsewhere that Windows 7 runs it better than Vista, and I've no reason to doubt it because the win 7 beta I have in my company's R&D office runs everything faster than Vista, but that's like saying your expensive restaurant meal with a dead fly in it is better than an expensive meal with two dead flies in it. You're unfortunately only a mere 1% of the general public that is experiencing problems the rest (99% no less!) seem to be flying with their amazing 20FPS in-game performance... Tuba3
I found the problem: Graphics SettingsVideo Mode: 1680 x 1050 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: High Render Quality: Highest View Distance: 100 Detail Distance: 100 Shadows : 0 Your settings are too high for your hardware. See my signature for advice, try those settings. GTA need super-computer to run on minimum settings, there is no way around but to upgrade your PC.
