Fatal Error

Recommended Posts

maybe you should send them a email sam with, everything you have done and a dxdiag.... as I ran out of ideas, if its not working on a fresh install, other than breaking down your door and trying it for myself lol.... They really need to get better at writing error events, so you don't just get a standard one... so you can see what the problem is...

Rockstar Toronto

Try uninstalling each iteration of Microsoft .NET framework (start from highest number and work backwards).

Restart computer with admin privleges.

Install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.5 SP1 from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

If you are 100% sure dotnet 3.5 has been properly installed on your VISTA PC , please try the following:

) Start->Control Panel

3) Click "System Maintanence"

4) Click "System"

5) In the panel on the left, click "Advanced system settings"

6) Click "Environment Variables..." in the dialog that appears

7) Click the "New..." button In the "System variables" group at the bottom

8) Type "windir" in the "Variable name:" field

9) Type "%SystemRoot%" in the "Variable value:" field

10) Click "OK"

11) Click "OK" in the "Environment Variables" window

do you have to install .Net 3.5 first before installing .Net3.5 SP1?

or can you just straight away install the sp1?

To Rockstar: Is OEM version of windows vista compatible?

I'm using an OEM intel E8400 processor too, could it be the problem?

You won't fix it uninstalling or reinstalling, and if it really was .net 3.5 problem, it would happen right away. Sorry guys, Toronto can't help ya because he doesn't know what is wrong with the game in general suicidal.gif

The only way to find out if uninstall really can help you is to see if it uninstalls everything. You know how many uninstallers DON'T do that? That's probably why it doesn't work. Left something there nervous.gif

i dont have installed NET 3.5. When i install the game, the RGSC install his own Frameworks. During two days i play the game with Framework 2.0 X64 and 3.0 x64 perfectly. Today is not working. Thats weard.

I have two Systems. Vista Ultimate 64 and Xp 64 Sp2

In vista the game crashes in the Startup logo. In Xp the game crash in Social Club. I think is just a problem with the frameworks but i cant fix it.

Well if you did what I said it would work, but then you'll come back to the same error eventually. So I can't help you there. I just tell people, if you are going to continue to get screwed like this, why try?

I do not have .net 3.5 installed either. For what it's worth, I only 1 - 3 and the service packs for 1 and 2, but not 3.5.

I only had trouble with the game when I had that installed (I installed it myself thinking rockstar messed up which redistro they include, then never installed it again when I reformatted - no more problems, but again, I reformatted - and also, I have found MY problem remains, just not with GTA IV...)

.NET can be a pain in the backside to install. (as it can get fussy over previous versions or Service Packs).

My advice is to try and find the full dotnet35 redist from Microsoft, before you install this you will be required to uninstall ALL PREVIOUS incarnations of .NET.

I'm at work so cannot really search much for you, but I belive the file is around 200+MB

Good Luck

John

I would think you just disproved your hardware theory.
