Vert101
apparently there was a study done by some group called JPR into how many game ready PC's have been sold worldwide this is the link if anyones interested http://www.pcworld.com/article/154175/pc_g...aims_study.html they say that since 2005 196 million game ready PC's have been shipped as opposed to the combined sales of wii PS3 and Xbox which is 74.7 million and even if half of those people were pirates... that would still be more legitimate buyers than consoles. Vert101
so from what you guys have been telling me... it's all about money. OK lets break that down then... out of 74.7 million people that buy consoles at least 50% of those are parents that buy the consoles to shut their kids up. R* has had a lot of bad publicity with this last release and at least 25%-30% of those parents would not have bought the game for their kids. The other 50% would be either ignorant of the fact or just don't care...or they are gamers and are over 18 years old and decide that they want to play the game anyway. I think they sold about 10 000 000 copies of the game for console. I'm not sure if that's just for console or for console and PC combined. Now with the PC... most people that buy PC's that are game ready... generally buy it for themselves... and by game ready that indicates that they know what they need for a gaming system and are computer literate. And even though they won't buy the game for their kids... they might buy it for themselves and lock their user account so their kids don't have access to it. Now out of 196 million game ready PC's, most of those people are probably over 18. This is not the total number of PC's sold worldwide... this is the total number of game ready PC's sold worldwide. And there was a lot of interest in this game by the PC gaming community so that would probably indicate maybe say 40% of those gamers would buy the game maybe 20% would pirate the game I'm not sure... and the other 40% just wouldn't be interested. So that would be possibly 78.4 million copies sold... so instead of making $500 000 000 they could have made 3.92 billion. Now come back and tell me that there is more money to be made by selling to console. Because after one year of selling this game to console... it's lost it's glamour... and not many PC gamers want to buy a half assed port from a console after one year. Especially not one as bad as this. So there must be some pretty big bribes going on to make this game more profitable for developers to develop on console. Vert101
That's an ideal estimate though the real figures would prolly have been more like 1-2 billion dollars
Vert101
COME ON! How can u even post such a stupid question?? Do you really think that (most) game developers are most concerened about getting a "shiny" good game that makes the world a happier place?? Sure, there are, but not in massive scale. Not a crew big enough to pull off a thing like GTA4 anyways. Grow up, open your eyes. THIS is the world: It's ALL about the MONEY! Period. EVERYTHING. 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. everywhere. anywhere. MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY Console games = LOADS of cash. PC games = Pooooooor income I am so sorry my friend, but PC games (singleplayer anyway) will slowly slowly DIE.... mostly due to torrents and world wide game-copies, (to bad, when PC's are superior in every way) Consoles is harder. It needs chips. Which MAY f**k up your console. 95% buy original games. I'd say that number would be 10-15% for PC gamers Online gaming works though WoW, Battlefield, Crysis wars, CoD¤ Online, etc.... games like that will keep evolving on the PC anyways.... point made: IT´S ALL ABOUT THE MOMEY now come back and tell me it's about the money... please give me a good reason and I'll shut up. Vert101
maybe this is a reason that'll make me shut up... it's all about the bribes... golden handshakes... developers whining about piracy and wanting to shut the PC gaming industry down for good but they can't. All they can do is cut themselves out of the loop... OK R* do your worst... cut us out of the loop and lose customer loyalty... I mean sh*t there's only 194 million potential buyers for your product... you've got nothing to lose really hey? I mean I support the PC gaming industry wholeheartedly... and I think that at least 40% of those 194 million do also... spit in my face again... and I'll turn my back on you. divinee
can i tell u how stupid u sound vert101? ur numbers and assumptions are retarded there are 92.83M ps3, wii, 360s. there are 46.83M ps3 and 360. there are 11.93M gta 4 sold on ps3 and 360. gta 4 pc wont even sell 1M even if it ran perfectly. no pc game ever made sold anywhere near 78.4m so how can gta 4? Vert101
ok world of warcraft has 20 million online... so does that mean that most of those people pirated the game?
CharmingCharlie
Firstly Vert101 please DO NOT quintuple post, you posted 5 times which is pretty ignorant. If you wish to add further information to your post and NO ONE has posted after you then EDIT your post. Now those are fancy numbers you presented but they are merely that "potential" numbers in no way shape or form does the PC ever meet those numbers. Even with games solely on the PC they never hit the kind of numbers you are talking about. When a developer releases a game on all three formats they see one thing and that is the PC is the weakest performer. We have just had a couple of good examples with Cod 4 and 5, farcry 2 and fallout 3 all of them were released at the same time on the PC, PS3 and 360. Yet the PC consistently sold far less than the consoles so I haven't got a bloody clue what the 196 million game read PC's are actually doing then, one thing for sure they are not being used for games. No matter which way you cut it the consoles are where the money is for developers, that has been proven time and time again. There is really very little reason to argue such a point, it's why Crytek, ID. Lucasarts and a whole host of other developers are now multi-platform. It is why developers are now DELAYING many games on the PC piracy doesn't affect console sales.
Vert101
ah well maybe I am stupid then... maybe you guys are right... sorry guys disreguard my previous posts. I'm really sorry about those figures... they just came out of my ass as potentials. crysis only sold 1.5 million copies on PC halflife and starcraft only sold 9.5 million copies but crysis was also badly optimised for pc when it came out... the sims sold 16 million... that was a stupid game though and world of warcraft only sold 11.5 million copies... so they lied about the 20 million... bastards so yeah those figures I was praying for GTA4 are completely and utterly wrong these figures are only coming from the internet though... and I'm sure they're wrong too... we should prolly halve or quarter those figures just to be safe. so yeah 78 million is a bit far out but 2 to 5 million can't be that bad I love being a stupid yokel... it's good to be flamed... it helps pick myself up... well I might be wrong about that too lol just jokes I'm trying to keep my stupidity to one post... very hard though well actually world of warcraft sold 18 million copies including expansions... that was exlusively PC... but that's not the best game hey? It's kinda crap... help me out here am I wrong about that too? it's kinda hard sortin' out figures and sh*t when I'm drunk... but I guess that's the same with you guys at R*... it's pretty fun hey? Making an ass of yourselves... just like me and hey Charlie... consoles are not the puritans you make them out to be... there are scumbags in every circle mate... don't put yourself in a corner with them. god damn... I'm getting drunker by the fu*king second... don't you feel it?... I still can't wait for your flame guys... it'll just make me laugh harder Edited January 10, 2009 by Vert101
