gtathebest4ever
well, it isn't a step forward if your graphic settings for gta iv are low, but when high, then definitely yes.

Ron Taboga
Your GTA 4 screenshot has the lowest possible settings right? But in my opinion GTA IV look still far far better than GTA III. The textures resolution in III is almost non existent and the polygon count is just good for a laugh comparing to todays standards. Also the Details are far more advanced than in III. No compare between III and IV no matter how low the settings in IV are in my opinion. Edited January 7, 2009 by Ron Taboga

Kakashi_sensei
Hahaha seriously dude, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that GTA IV is at least 10 to 15 times better looking than GTA III. Do yourself a favour, look at a pedestrian in GTA III, then look at one in GTA IV, look at the road when its raining in GTA III and compare it to GTA IV, here's a huge one: Look at the water in GTA IV, and compare it to GTA III. Seeing the pattern here?
thales100
First 3 are from GTA 4 and the last GTA 3 - they are so similar i think i should explain it.
CptPusheen
You think that I am a dumbass but recently I was little bored with GTA 4 so played GTA III and hey, it was fun. So I asked you what difference you see between these two games because I see two same games
masterpdisaster
aww... please - at least give GTAIV a bit of justice. *add: graphically, GTAIV might not be perfect at all, but it's by far better looking then GTAIII. thales100
Here are two comparison photos of GTA III and GTA IV. Is it really so big step forward? Or maybe step backward? You dont need glasses, you need new eyes.
GTASIX
The difference is huge. Its so basic in GTA 3.
CptPusheen
aww... please - at least give GTAIV a bit of justice. Gta III and IV are at the same level of playability for me. GTA IV is technically jaw-dropping but I have the same fun in the very same city
SyddersChap
This may be the most stupid question to be posted on the forum today but here goes... bartekxyz has shown that there are parts of GTA4 that we've played before. I cannot currently play my copy of the game due to owning a legacy PC that needs upgrading... I'll get to the question. Does your hideout in GTA III make an appearance? Luigis? Don Salvatores place up on the hill leading from Little Italy etc, etc. Flame me if you wish but I really hadn't appreciated that the map from GTA III would make a return? If it does how much of it is in GTA4. Finally does any else have any screens of each location in both games that they can post? Thanks in advance and apologies if this really is such a stupid question but it hadn't occured that some locations would be so faithfully reproduced. If you look at maps of Liberty City in GTA 3 & 4 it looks similar, only in gta IV there are more roads, it's like the same city in bigger scale. But I don't know where are GTA III's hideouts in new Liberty City GTA III map: GTA IV map: I will post new screens of same areas later Is this screen shot rendered on Nvidia GFX hardware? it really looks like sh*t! Don't you know better words than sh*t? My screens were taken on HD4850 @ 1440x900 in bmp format so edited it in MS paint and saved as jpg that's why it looks ugly. You know how good Paint is
YodaStar
GTAIV looks vastly better than GTA3. The difference will be visible once you take a look at the whole city being rendered. SyddersChap
Now I can see why my P4 3.2gig and AGP 7900GS won't let me run the game above 800x600 and everything at low/1 YodaStar. Hence why I'm waiting until I build my Corei7 rig in the coming weeks before I load it up again. Wow! Thank you for the screens and showing me what I'm missing. Can I use the word tease? bartekxyz I think you were quite close to one of the hideouts in both your screens. In GTAIII you were near the hospital (at the bottom of the hill) and the same in GTAIV? Through China Town/Little Italy and you'll hit the river and (if it's still there) you should be able to find the first safe-house in GTAIII. Anyway. One could argue that console gamers are just getting to play GTAIII many years after PC gamers and we are getting a much bigger, better looking version ourselves - so we win twice? I know it may not seem it. I myself am dissapointed not to be able to play it but once I upgrade I hope it's everything I wished for pre-December. After all, the vitriol seems to be dying down on this forum and those that have the rig to play it and aren't having problems seem to be of the opinion that by and large it's one hell of a game. Perhaps, jsut perhaps that's why Rockstar were so quiet? Sort of thinking let people work through their problems/realise they need to upgrade finally after all (me) and then the people who are enjoying it as we meant will rise to the top? Yes it's unforgiveable that it's so buggy/glitched/borked on some rigs and yes it should be clearer that only 'C2s' need apply but as time passes I think people are starting to appreciate what they have on their hands. I remember much anger being directed toward R* for the savegame problem in GTA:SA. That is merely my view on how the dynamic seems to be changing on this forum. Mike0
GTA3 has more arcadey old-school GTA gameplay. The art design is also great and the athmosphere. And the gameplay is faster but the shooting is not as detailed as GTA IV. Since there is no euphoria the movement is faster and more precise. Less frustrating. In GTA IV Niko walks like an old man. Thats what Euphoria did to him. But GTA IV is better in graphics and effects but thats it. They are both playable games and both suck you into the athmosphere but those GTA3 memories will always be here. The soundtrack, the mute protagonist, athmosphere, LC in 2001, top-down view, hard missions and gameplay, interesting mafia story, a sense of misticism to Liberty City. I expected GTA IV to continue the story of 3 but it wasnt quite like that. I guess graphics are offcorse better in GTA IV but GTA3 is always going to be there for some old-school memories. Ron Taboga
In IV I miss some real "rich people area" with big houses and great cars (which you can steal) like it was with GTA III on the last west island with the Airport. In GTA IV the last west island is another industrial and half commercial area with nothing new i was really not excited about the area when i drove through it there is nothing special in it except maybe the oil raffinery. All GTA´s had such areas so far...GTA III, Vice City (middle island) and GTA SA (Vinewood)
