Advantage to completion of side missions?

Recommended Posts

Hi, in previous GTA's there were advantages to completing the side missions, like more health and armor and availability of weapons, etc.

Are there similar advantages to completing the side missions in GTA 4? Seems like you get 'achievements' which don't have any advantage other than bragging rights.

As far as I was able to tell (high 90's completion so far) just the achievements and for the 100%.

Of course there are a few things such as the "mini gun copter" for shooting all 200 pigeons but as far as health or armor bonuses go, no such luck.

Most seem pretty useless honestly... as mentioned above, hunting down the 200 pigeons (even with a map) would be a complete waste of your time.

Very minor spoiler but tagging just in case:

I ran into Pathos (random ped) in Star Junction, he tells me about his music and some guys start heckling him... then I have to get rid of those hecklers... what? No, I don't care! I just walked away and "Pathos has died" flashed at the bottom of the screen... Well so long Pathos we hardly knew ye sigh.gif

Same thing with that chick who wants you to drive her to her drug dealer... why the f*ck would I do that I don't know you don't care about you, so long.

That said, the random ped missions are there simply for that, more missions to do. I just couldn't be bothered with most of them.

Yup those missions are not completely irrelevant as u might think. If u don't finish them as the game want u to, they will pop up on map every time u pass nearby.

Very close to junky chick there's Niko's old friend from the boat who needs some of the 'persuasion' skills of his tounge2.gif That was a fairly tricky side mission because cops are all around u when u need to take out the guy.

Anyway, those missions do add some progress percentage I can tell u that.

Why? Cuz you were in such a rush to finish the game? sarcasm.gif

I wasn't in a rush, it's just pointless.

...and?

Of course they do, just like shooting 200 stupid pigeons counts towards the 100%. It's a waste of time... in my opinion, of course.

I was wondering too. I completed 20 vigilante, 30 manhunt and 30 stevies cars and other than achievements there was no reward. Kept thinking I was missing something. Problem with that is it makes it feel more like a grind. Pointless missioning is a let down.

Also I haven't done the 200 pigeons but I can steal a mini-gun copter from the roof of the police station in algonquin anytime I want.
