Kakkaukko
My problem is that GTA 4 won't start anymore. When I click play on Social club the game seems to start, I get the usual little window that closes after a while. But the game never starts. I sometimes get a message that GTA4 is not responding. I've tried reinstalling the game and installing the patches but nothing works. I know that I can play the game because I completed the game about 31.5% before it refused to start. I'm beginning to be desperate suicidal.gif . I really love the game and I spent 50€ on the game. I REALLY want to play it but I can't. sad.gif SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! sad.gif
zBobG
My problem is that GTA 4 won't start anymore. My game did that, I was using GTA4 v1.0.1.0 when it quite suddenly stopped launching. Installing the GTA4 v1.0.2.0 patch fixed the starting problem, I don't know if the problem was related to a version problem though. You may need to completely reinstall the game, you can uninstall then reinstall or try a repair install. I think you can try a repair install by running the setup.exe from the retail DVD (or a patch) again. If you reinstall you will not loose your savegames if you do not specifically remove them. If you reinstall be careful to use the same log-on names for Windows Live so that your savegames will be linked to the same account you used previously. Otherwise you may can just copy your old savegames into the new folder - not sure about this though. I always run the RGSC launcher first, let it start, then DON'T press "PLAY". I minimize the RGSC window, then run the LaunchGTAIV.exe from a desktop shortcut. The GTA4 launcher then does not have to start the Social Club thing, I think this process makes the game less likely to have problems when starting up. If you use this process and use the retail GTA4 launcher you should see a "DVD busy" icon and no extra (DOS) windows. You can use the official SecuRom alternate launcher and you won't ever see the special SecuRom icon (because it bypasses the disk check). After a while the intro graphics should start along with the title music, if your game never gets that far then I would be suspicious of a failure in any installed Windows codecs either for sound (MP3) or video. I think there is some info on Windows codecs in the FAQ in this forum and there are many (useful or not) threads that can be found using search. jaimebombas
I suggest everyone having freezing probs to check your memory voltage. My system runs with 8Gb, 2x2Gb Corsair + 2x2Gb GSkill. Corsair's where running at 1.5v and GSkill at 1.7v... went to bios setup changed the DRAM voltage to 1,5v and... TAADDAAAA!!! 2 sessions of 3h each without a single freeze (previously couldn't play for more than 10min). Cheers! lowbart
Where in the game: The loading screen for multiplayer. I go into Niko's phone, multiplayer, set up a match, and at the first loading screen (when I'm done with the phone), it just keeps blinking "loading" forever, and the computer isn't doing anything. version: Steam. Latest patch (installed and updated july 28th). OS: Windows XP SP3 Computer info: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Clock speed 1994 Mhz) (single core) 1 GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 4800 (512 MB) The single player game works okay now, so I don't think it's a graphics problem. I don't have any trouble logging into GFWL, but I suspect that it's something to do with that. I have COMODO firewall because I don't believe in spending money on a firewall program. GTAIV is set as a trusted program, I tried to find an executable for GFWL but couldn't see any. I tried disabling Comodo and using Windows Firewall but it's the same problem. I tried setting up port forwarding for ports 1096 and 3075 because somebody told me that GTAIV uses one of them. No difference. Has anyone had this problem? As much as I despise the GTAIV multiplayer menu planning, or lack thereof, I really want to play online.
Girish
Have you turned OFF VSync from the Graphics options menu? It's supposed to reduce the loading time considerably, although if that was an issue, you should have noticed long loading times in single player too. But I guess it's worth a shot. JunkieLove
Guys, the problem is simple, the cause of these freezing sh*t is the patch!! Don´t believe it? -> Uninstall, install and aply NO patches. it will work perfect, then install the patch and it will freeze again lol So we need rockstar to work a bit, i bought this game the first day it got released on my country and now i cant play!! pfff i think piracy is better, i wont buy any rockstar game until they fix this sh*t, i get them... "by other ways". I think you understand it. Join to the resistance, use this image as signature! boikot!! How? click on your name, click on "edit My Signature" and then set htis image, maybe they see that we are feed up with this problem and finally begin to work, they are receiving a lot of money for a not working sh*tty game. JunkieLove
junkie mine is already reinstalled and it still kept happening but when you launched the game and it asked you for install the updated did u accept? you must decline it. if you did it and didnt work for you then i dont know, it worked for me. In addition I have new info, when my pc is turned off for a while, then i turn it onand i can play for more than 1 hour, then it freezes and it will freeze again if i try to play GTA without letting it rest... this hapens to me since i installed the latest patch 1.04.. with 1.03 was totally unplayable so rock* made a little advantage, now im testing hard my temperatures, since the memstric commandline looks like does not want to work... more info later xP

JunkieLove
i removed everything, then installed and aply no patches. by this way it worked fine for me. it looks like the patch makes the game work different and the core gets more temperature, now im playing with the pc box opened and i can play xD
