GTAIVMAC
Use your computer to test your internet connection For example use the same internet type of connection as your ps3 on the computer Google: internet speed test Thats the only solution I can come up with Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/390348-ps3/#findComment-1058847878 Share on other sites
minimike86
1) what is your downspeed? 2) what is your upspeed? *this is always overlooked but actually causes tons of lag as the game servers dont update the effects of your actions as quickly as you can see your actions locally* i.e. shooting someone in the face point blank doesnt register as a headshot. 3) are you using a router to connect to the internet?? and have you tryed activating any port forwards your ps3? ie the remote play ports? http://portforward.com/ In order to play GTA IV via the PS3 network you will need to open the following ports on your router or modem: UDP ports: 6672, 28900 TCP ports: 8001, 27900 For access to the Playstation Network the following ports are used: TCP ports: 80 HTTP, 8080 HTTP, 443 HTTPS, 5223 JABBER, 3478, 3479, 3480 UDP ports 3478, 3479 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/390348-ps3/#findComment-1058848117 Share on other sites

minimike86
ive had problems with speed in the past . but i would like to know 1 what is an acceptable speed (up. down. ping) for playing games like IV and 2 what are the ps3s maximum upload and download stats..er oh yeh....please. 1) I play with a ADSL connection Upspeed is ~0.5Mbps Downspeed is ~4.5Mbps and cannot notice any major issues, my awful upspeed sometimes results in me shooting someone in the face from point blank and it not registering as a headshot. for gaming I would recommend an SDSL connection so your Up & down speeds are the same or even better an ADSL2 connection so that your downspeed is ~25Mbps with a ~4Mpbs upspeed 2) Are your trying to capture the up/down stats of your ps3?? or just want to know the maximum your ps3 can up/download? if its the first then buy yourself an epic router and setup a data log on the ps3's IP/MAC addresses. if its the latter then it depends totally on your Internet connection speeds, there is no up/download cap as such. SHARKEM
i looked at a site with detailed stats which stated ps3 max is 1000 Mbps.. doesnt answer all my questions but amusingly they were comparing it to x box at 100 Mbps. minimike86
i looked at a site with detailed stats which stated ps3 max is 1000 Mbps.. doesnt answer all my questions but amusingly they were comparing it to x box at 100 Mbps. yeah thats right but typically you will only get a 1Gbps connection on your local network. and that relys on all your other network equipment (router/switch) being capable of gigabit networking including the cabling! otherwise it will drop to the speeds that they support. eg: PS3 <----[cat5e/6 cable]----> 1000Mbps enabled Router <----Phone line/fibre optics cable ----> Internet this would give your ps3 a gigabit connection to the router but then if your going out accross the internet you will only be able to transfer at the speeds of your internet connection. if you instead connected the following: PS3 <----[cat4/5? cable]----> 1000Mbps enabled Router <----Phone line/fibre optics cable ----> Internet then your ps3<->router connection will only be 100Mbps regardless of them both being able to handle the 1Gbps speed. hope that helps explain things?
