Average Editor Clip Length

Recommended Posts

When taking a clip of gameplay, the most I have ever managed to capture has been about 20 seconds. Does the clip length depend upon the activity going on around you?

According to Rockstar's clip editor guide, they state you can take 30-40 seconds of gameplay. I'm only getting half of this! I've tried the game on all different combinations of settings and yet still I can't get more than 20 seconds.

Has anybody managed to capture more?

Well it does depend

factors:

-amount of activity/system usage

-RAM/cache for pre capturing the clip

then i assume when your press the button it offloads the clip from ram straight to the hard drive

whilst playing normally i suggest your turn off the recorder for better performance

Really? I'm running a Core i7 O/C'd to 3.8GHz, 6GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator @ 1603 with an ATI 4870x2 2GB (may as well be 1GB, though).

I normally play with the clip capture feature off as it resulted in instability, but have begun playing with it on again at the cost of crashes. Perhaps something has gone awry?

Yes, clips are based on performance. Some clips are very short however (due to a lot of explosions, for example). So usually what I try to do is make sure that the clip is saved no more than 10 seconds after the action has occurred, then press it again in 20 or so seconds. The editor will now have two clips, and you might have a longer one because of your second save, while still being safe with the first clip.

It's down to amount of action and performance

If I'm just driving along a road doing nothing I can get 1 minute clips

If I'm being chased by cops and I'm shooting back, with cars being exploded everywhere and pedestrians being gunned down/run over it goes down to about 30 seconds

Something must have gone wrong somewhere, then. I've tried playing at 800x600 with everything set to low and I still get 15-20 second clips. That said, I did a little running on the beach and managed about 30-odd seconds, so perhaps it's just down to surrounding activity. If it's about performance, it must be getting calculated improperly because I'm running constantly smooth with no slowdown whatsoever! Maybe there's a parameter I can change somewhere...
