c150student
Hi there, n00b about, sorry if this is a dumb question I got GTA4 for PC for Christmas, and then decided that I would buy an xbox 360 controller to use with the game. I went out to PC World today and bought a genuine MS wired one. I plug it into my PC, the drivers downloaded and installed from the net automatically and the controller shows up in control panel, with all the buttons etc working. I also have another 2 controllers, but clicked 'advanced' and then where it says what controller would I like to use for older games, I chose the xbox controller. However, the controller doesnt work in game! If I press the middle 'X' button with the green light to the top left, it brings up the 'games for windows live' window, and then the controller seems to work as it should to navigate through the menu that comes up. However, if I go back out from the menu again and into game, the controller does nothing. The only button that has a response is the big X. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks alot Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/389945-xbox-360-controller/ Share on other sites

c150student
Thanks for the quick reply I actually saw that page earlier, but its about emulating other controllers to work as a 360 controller. This is a 360 controller already, and everyone else seems to be able to get theirs to work from the off! And I cant see anything in the controller config (in game) that would appear to help... logitechdog
tryed changing the configuation menu between classic and standard is what I mean, if you tryed that only other thing is to disable your other controller drivers Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/389945-xbox-360-controller/#findComment-1058842000 Share on other sites
Pixelated
Unplug the controller and uninstall all XBox360 controller software and then make sure GTA IV is updated to the latest version. GTA IV 1.1 has it's own controller support so other software will conflict with it. Once you uninstall the 360 controller software and update GTA IV reboot your machine. Then plug in the controller and start GTA IV and try it then. Let us know if it works. c150student
Right, I uninstalled the controller drivers through device manager (as far as I know, this is the only software that installed). GTA is version 1.0.1.0, and I even downloaded the patch direct and ran it again to make sure its updated. The controller then wouldnt work at all, so I tried a different USB port and still no luck. Like I say, it works fine when navigating through windows live in game, but once out of those menus it does nothing else. And switching between standard and classic controls makes no difference EDIT: AHA got it to work! I had to disable my other controllers through device manager (though my steering wheel had to be unplugged as it wouldnt let me disable for some reason). Thanks for the help Edited January 4, 2009 by c150student Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/389945-xbox-360-controller/#findComment-1058842772 Share on other sites
reznor
I have a 360 controller and it works fine . The problem is perhaps your other controllers (drivers or otherwise) that comes into conflict with the game...
