William.
I just have to say, 2012 is crazy, Xbox 720 will be releasing by then. LOL. Anyway, I think R* will release a game in the late 2009 or early 2010. And it is Vice City, I wish. In those times the PS4 will be released... and in 2015 the PS5... oh yeah! I really doubt that but Xbox 720 maybe even in 2011 Yeah, I heard lots of sites saying that the release will be 2011-2012. The next GTA game myse-of-well wait till 2011/2012 since there's still the second DLC to be released. chngdman
I think Vice City was (obviously, and critically acclaimed as) rushed, and San Andreas took two years from vice city, but was already in development during the final stages of development with vice city. Not only that, but GTA IV has been in development since 2003, is more detailed than san andreas, and the time it took from 03 to 09 is obvious when you look at that map and then at Vice City which was a year long rush job (yet it was STILL a masterpiece, EAT THAT TIM SWEENEY!!! ). I think we'll see the next game mid to late 2010, and then the San Andreas version will come around the end of 2012 and be FULL of jokes about the end of the world. Why? Mainly because IV was in development that long but it doesn't mean the map took that long. And by this screen shot, you can see the map must have been one of the last things to complete, because everything seen here except the one street corner (and arguably that bridge) is LOD (build LOD before doing full detail map objects - actually, before adding detail to them) http://media.gtanet.com/images/3562_gtaiv_screenshot.jpg Also, if you look at the same batch of screens/same time, there were a lot of skyscrapers without textures at all. HOWEVER - at the same time, some rather detailed pics were released too - but all were indoors or close-quartered. Since the first game makes the money for the next games (GTA III bland, proof of concept -> major music signs on for VC, etc), IV is a money maker too. They will hire more talent, and license better music, as the industry will be behind them (Euphoria being experimental for such an ambitious project, AND the company almost being bought out at the time, and the reluctance to say anything about songs until VERY close to release "because they might change... may just be placeholders..." are all great reasons why the entertainment world would not back IV AS MUCH as it's sequels, much like III, because no one is sure yet if they will get a return after paying the royalties to their artists to be part of the GTA Pie with their catalog of music, for instance, because artist gets paid by label, and label gets paid by rockstar). You can expect vice to be the same size as liberty, and it's anyone's guess if SA will be any bigger - or if the series will make it that far, if it does, it will be those cities, but times are tough and rendering is about to go back to full software (Say goodbye to GPU (as we know them), they were temporary anyway). IV built to last Suddenly rockstar gets less crit if they were building to be able to blow your mind and what you see right now is just to accommodate our outdated graphics API if legend Tim Sweeney is to be heeded. And I'm with Tim: f*ck DX10. And thats why IV didn't use it. f*ck DX10. It's complete bullsh*t. 9 was quite possibly the last revolution in GFX API. But this is ALL WAY beside the point entirely so let me get back to the gist ->) You can expect similar size of new Vice to new Liberty - actually, you can expect it a bit larger, like last time, as there is still room in the IV map for expansion which means a bigger map can fit, and that new talent will help to keep development moving. I'd say expect 2 years this time, for both games. Not one game, then another in double the time. I hope you are right though, I'd love to buy a new GTA this year However, with DLC, and modding on PC (will advance nicely), this game is set to last, and this time, Vice City won't be a rush job, just like Liberty wasn't this time, and just like San Andreas never was Oh, and the next 2 GTA's will be on Xbox 360 and PS3 and you won't get a new console from either of those companies until those two games are done. What you see in IV is what you get through VC and San Andreas of this canon. It will improve only some (prettier radar, slightly better textures due to better skills with the consoles, better animations, Peds running from everything even sneezes will be expanded to include more behaviors - this is the tip of the iceberg and there is a lot in store for us, but expect the same leap from III->SA for IV to SAIV. Things will remain pretty close to what you see though. San Andreas is quite a difference from III, I understand, but they set this canon up to really fit together - and looks were a big deal for the housers. They didn't like how liberty didn't feel like the same universe as VC, and especially not San Andreas. SA showed what they could do for themselves - expect better consistency this time, but also expect plenty of improvements ). I'm not at Liberty to say. But you've got balls in Vice. IV was worse than a rushed job(at least for the PC). Expecting it to follow the order of previouse games (VC, or SA) Check this topic. Rockstar has refuted Game Informer's claims. I think they'd allow some time after the DLC release to keep selling that while working on the next proper new game. There's really no need for two topics like this anymore. If you read the topic I linked and the article that CharmingCharlie links to and you still think there will be a new game in 2009, post about it there.
