I suggest you go to pricewatch.com. I saw some ATI Radeon HD 3870's for 111.00, not sure how well that will run the game.

I don't intend the following to be an advertisement but only to help the individual who started this thread.

I do have a card I'm not using (one of my previously SLI'd cards) - BFG 8800 Ultra OC (768 MB) and was going to sell it for $90 CDN + shipping/handling if you're interested.

When i first heard that GTAIV was coming out on PC, i thought that it would need topo of the line graphics card, so i bought Nvidia EN9600GT (1GB) and GTA is on maximum graphics and it is still freezing sometimes !!!!!!!!!!!! cryani.gif

are you sure your selling it for $90 CND, that is nearly the top of the line card from the 8800 series. I live in AUS and you can hardly find that card and even if you did find it, it would cost about $900 AUS.

I feel for you dude, but there's nothing "topo" about the 9600GT. I'm sorry to report, but that card does not make use of the 1gb. It doesn't have the bus to move the data fast enough.

"Final Thoughts

We’re really beginning to see more and more 1GB 9600GT cards come to the market, but we continue to see that they offer no real performance increase when compared to their 512MB counterpart."

@bulletx, what's your current card, CPU, RAM and GTAIV settings/benchmark?

What shops are YOU going to? you can buy a 4870 for $300 in australia...

With 100$, you should go for an ATI HD4830 which is basically a underclocked HD4850.

The HD3870 that other propose is useless today. Even my HD2900XT beats the HD3870.

grand.theft.auto

8800 series at the minimum. Dont go for ATI cause you'll face texture problems.

8800gts will get around 30-40 dps with a decent processor.

that's quite irrelevant since the 8800 ultra is on avarage probably double the price of the 4870.

anyway, i'd go for the 8800 from the seller in this thread. the price is awesome, too good to be true.

any type of 8800 card is good enough for this game anyway, and i wouldn't be surprised if the 8800 ultra would actually outperform most other single gpu's since for some reason, gta iv seems to be magically optimized for that series, judging from all the benchmarks.

I bought an X4850 1GB from PowerColor to play GTA 4 and similar new games. It laps up all new games great at 1280x1024 and even GTA 4 runs great for me now, for about an hour until the memory leak suicidal.gif

Yes if you can get that 8800 for 100 do that, bargain!

Also it's the fastest 8800. Some 8800's are a lot slower. some can have 96 shaders, the more shaders the more power.

But cpu does have to be good too to make a good difference.
