[BOUNTY] Controller mod

Corgi

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am a die hard fan of the gta series, and I love gta4 because it is so beautiful. However I think rockstar overlooked the slight problem of controller compatibility.

You see I currently own a Logitech G25 steering wheel (and pedal) controller that I would love to use with gta4. I have used it with SA using a tool called "SAAC". But gta4 won't let me bind its keys, what's more, the camera just keeps going 'round and 'round.

So I am so desperate for a similar mod to gta4 that I propose a bounty. I offer $50 to the first person who releases a functional controller compatibility mod similar to SAAC for the gta4 v1.0.1.0.

I strongly encourage other players who want something like this made to join in with serious offers.

I will pay paypal, no questions asked... I don't even want exclusivity. Release it to the community, prove you're the author, bang paypal $50 right there... I've got bux to burn and if you like $ then here's your chance to make some easy.

This offer is good until I'm sitting and playing gta4 with my logitech g25. Then I'm gonna lose my ca$h... to the person who made it happen. :-D

Thanks guys and keep on truckin'

CORGI

PS: Anything you wanna tell me do it here, I don't respond to PM after the virus was sent to me.... ... it's FOR the community so let's share :-)

UPDATE: Thank you to all the fans who made the g25 work. If you are coming here for the first time, read the thread, it contains all instructions on how to make your G25 controller run. Here is the gist of what you should know if you are experiencing problems:

1. Pedals should NOT be combined (option available in control panel, game controllers, properties, and then untick combined pedals)

2. -usedirectinput commandline hack should be enabled.

3. use the xbox360 emulator to kill the force feedback center spring in the g25 (provided you have FF turned on in control panel with all settings down to zero)...

4. DO NOT put dinput8.dll in the main directory as it will make your pedals emulate the keyboard.

Thank you so much to everyone who made this work.

Thanks for the "bounty" tounge2.gif maybe, thanks to your incentive, someone will manage it and I'll be able to play with my wheel too...

What do you mean by getting a virus through PM? That's impossible... unless someone sent you a file, you downloaded it and executed it without scanning...

I thought modding games was something free. I believed that was the very spirit of all guys around here.

I don't like those kinds of bounties. Why don't people start paypaling every mod they made ? Maybe there's a crazy business idea here. I say WTF.

Off-topic... How did this topic get over 80k views in less than 2 hours? (Last time I looked it was at 14k)

Thanks for the replies.

Unless you don't know there is a petition for rockstar to fix this problem and lots of many people on other forums are trying to do things to fix it.

Yes I agree modding should be free however sometimes I feel sad that modders work so hard and get nothing in return. I wanted to reward their hard work and also offer a little incentive so maybe they can prioritize this extremely important fix.

i dont see the problem with paying for a tool, i dont think any modder would mind being rewarded for their work..

but i think this fix is up to R*, their patch should fix all these issues and i expect it to, otherwise.. wow..

We wait patiently for Rockstar, but many agree their first patch was in fact a step in the "wrong" direction.

I have faith that the community will be the first to solve this problem. Already we are seeing lots of talented people releasing incredible mods such a short time after the game was released. I'm impressed and humbled by the creativity and professionalism on this forum.

Does anybody have any updates on a community based controller hack?

I am sure one is in the works and I have some fresh cash that I am still willing to give away.

If someone could create an application that converts driver information from the Logitech G25 into an Xbox controller, with the right setup, it could be yours.

I don't do drivers, but I know about them.

It'll take someone with alot of brain to do it.

Have you not tried the xbox 360 emulator DLL that people are using - there is a thread all about it on the main forum. The guy who wrote it has just released an awesome xinput DLL which filters out GTA so it can't detect your controller in game.. Thus it will work fine with v1.1 of the game...

Worth a shot. I'm sure someone got their wheel working..

Did you try xpadder?

Xpadder should work, it basically can get any gamepad to emulate the keyboard. And you can customize each key on the gamepad to do something from the keyboard. With this program and a few others I was able to play Counter-Strike: Source and other games using my PSP as a controller. smile.gif

apparently the xbox controller emulator still makes the pedals feel digital... on and off... same with the steering.

I think the OP has a great idea... and I for one as a Logi G25 owner will appreciate anything a modder can produce!! smile.gif

i aint no modder or programmer, just a desperate gamer thats all and this aint no mod neither, just some work arounds that may help you play with your steering wheel/controller, you might have tried this but i'm just trying to help..

ok first up you need a program called joytokey (awesome program)

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-.../JoyToKey.shtml

then you gotta configure it, you can bind your axis or any buttons on your controller to keys (such as w, a or any key)

ok now for the configuring part

(find what is the value or button number of your gas pedal/ any button to your controller the one you need to configure, from the GAME CONTROLLERS utility in control panel)

Open up joytokey..

1. Go to file -> Delete selected configuration (delete the default config)

2. Go to file -> Create new configuration

3. Select what button or axis on the joystick/controller you want to configure and double click it

for eg. i'm going to configure the gas pedal which is the 5th button in my game controllers utility

4. So i select the button 4(in joytokey),i double click it.. a window pops up stating choose a function to assign,

under setting for keyboard emulation, in the first text box i type the letter W and click ok (w is default for acceleration in gta 4)

5. and presto you can open up a notepad and check it, by pressing the gas pedal, you'll find that w is being printed on the notepad, if it

does it means you have sucessfully configured the settings, you can do this for every button, i use my joypad to even operate the

computer (really fun)

ph34r.gif !!!! most important, due to the superb patch rockstar made it makes directx controllers go hay wire, so the work around is this

1. unplug any controllers before starting the game.

2. after loading and when you see niko, press escape and alt+tab out

3. plugin your controller and start joytokey if its not on already

4. alt+tab back and presto free gaming without the screen going around like niko's drunk or something....

enjoy.......

anyways if this works and you got what you needed, just thank GOD, dont make modding modding work for $$, modding stays freeeeeeeee tounge2.gif

point of this topic is getting G25 to control the cars. i hope joytokey(or something like that, the xpadder mentioned before doesn't sound very convincing) is able of assigning axis with positive and positive and negative directions, because G25 uses one axis for steering and other for gas/brake(yes, you can't combine them, but that's when keyboard comes in. smile.gif)

UPDATE:i knew it! it's useless, the stupid joytokey does what i thought, it makes the wheel act as keyboard.

the point is: we want analogue controls with wheel.

That xbox 360 emulator DLL is a cool thing, it made left/right rotation of my USB Wheel analog, so now I can do turns nice and soft. But it seems to be unable to make acceleration/break to be analogue.

Here's an idea: what if somebody write a script that checks how much the pedal is pressed and make the game press and release acceleration button real quick? Like when I push my pedal just a little bit - pressed time of the acceleration button would be much shorter than released time and when I have the pedal fully pushed - the release time is zero and the button is always pressed.

That could do a trick if there would be a fine scripter.

That's dissapointing to hear.

Thanks for looking into it, though; the game has been out for so long I just know there is a controller mod in the works. We already have a car spawner so I'm sure somebody somewhere is working on it.

We must remain hopeful.

# Supported Wheels:

# Note: Controls are unmapped, user must map controls using Manufacturer's mapping software.

    * Logitech G25 Racing Wheel

etc.

WTF? how do i make sh*t supposed to be done in the game with the profiler?

doesn't that mean the analogue still isn't possible?

i don't know,and i don't wanna mess some sh*t up,so pls help.

i will play something else in the meantime before somebody explains.

So far my game recognizes the G25; the steering works and the pad brings up the phone. However it does not recognize the pedals (either in game or when I try to bind them in control menu).

Logitech profiler is absolutely bogus - I individually "emulated" all of the buttons to keyboard keys but it doesn't work.

One person on the board claims to have their G25 functioning "immediately after game was updated" but that sounds not real in my opinion.

I'm going to be playing around with it over the weekend.... at least Rockstar is trying right?

.. at least Rockstar is trying right?

i wish they were trying.

so at least i'm not the onlyone haveing probs.

I firmly believe Rockstar has lied in claiming full support for the G25 and other alternate controllers, however...

The one breath of good news is that one can start the game with the G25 plugged in and the camera remains stationary. This is a tremendous leap and will be very beneficial for modders who want to make their own control hack.

the point that u have 2 point that out,

should make R* employees faces turn

red cause of shame!!

a and before i forget do u use the -usedirectinput

comandline?

i'm now gonna try without and see what will happen.

edit: not working rahkstar2.gif must be muppetmaster_karma.gif

edit2: funny thing when not useing the logitech profiler

one can aim with the throttle and break pedal!!

WTF is that all about??

and now i can use the pedals in car!!

WORKING!!

BUT with high latency and u have 2 have the standart

controller config selected in game.

i think i'll stick with the good ol key and mouse cryani.gif
