Both of them was clean installation!

i didnt now benchmark is a program!

And some guys cant really read in this thread? they say i have problems?? omg i HAD problems, i fixed them , and i think the images prove this, and i dont use any compability . i didnt right click then go to compability and enabelded vista or anything, it runs without compability mode!

Yes, that was exactly what I was claiming, but surely you needed to install in compatibility mode, unless of course you had it installed already under vista and just exported the relevant registry keys.

Complete and utterly useless this topic is.

This nutter is comparing two OS's

There are so many variables which determine the FPS, thats it's completely useless to compare two OS> IMO it simply cannot be done.

Ultimatelty, the performance depends on your hardware, not the software you use. The best you could except is a meously ~1-4 fps which I feel will not make a diferrence to gameplay.

It's better to wait out for a patch or a new driver release.

I agree with another user which mentioned that overtime, you would have installed softwares/services which would eat up some resources. A fresh installtion of an OS, would have no additional services running thus faster running of the hardware you have.

Hey BWARazor, i think it's great that you take your time to do this beta testing but it's a bit useless since seeing as this game is such a failure in the fields of graphics and gameplay so no one will play it to the time when Windows7 is out ~6 months.

now don't get me wrong i never had an error with it and performance are great but this game is just really bad for what it is and what people wanted it to be.

You may want to mention what build your on. For example, if your testing on the PDC build, it's not going to represent the performance of build 7000 (Beta 1).

as long as you manage to do two fresh installs of windows 7 and vista and only install what's needed to run the game, the comparison should still work as a pointer to what the difference may be in performance on the two os's.

however, judging from the screencaps of the poster who got it to run on windows 7 and got 5-7 better fps or whatever, that vista install definitely does not look like a clean one. the desktop is filled with stuff defnitely not needed to run gta.

First of all, this game DOES NOT run better on 7. How do I know? Because he has 14 FPS OUTSIDE in the vista screens, and the 7 screen is INSIDE with 17 FPS - which is pathetic for being inside. He probably gets like 3 to 7 FPS outside in win 7...

Show me VIDEO captured with fraps - it should slow it down, but proportionately for both OS so it doesn't matter - show me VIDEO, both in the same exact place and time: Getting off the boat and drving roman home. Do the whole first drive to the apartment - we will see.

Hell, for all I care, video tape it from 'outside' of the monitor and just have the fraps showing. I know better than to think 17 FPS inside is running better outside than 14FPS.

Will there be Screenshots?

Yes there will be, but not yet, im still in the installation process!

Why not wait until you're done with the benchmarks to create a thread? Why Create a thread before it's even done?

So you say that your a legal beta tester, however, your playing on a build that has yet to be released to testers (I'm actually on the beta team for Windows 7, and a build has yet to be released to us).

Apparently that build was downloadable from both MSDN and Technet for about 6 days, too bad I didn't know as technet subscriber sad.gif

Yeah but the likeliness that he has a MSDN or Technet subscription is slim to none. Besides, I believe I read that keys weren't generated for them.

all this thread makes me believe that comparison of OS should be done with the right preparation.

It looks like BWARazor has problems.

I think that we deserve an update after posting of thread without the full results, we can't wait forever.

if BWARazor can't get results, he should tell us about it, and to open a new thread in the future with the full tests done.

If you can run both OS, you should for comparison -post both benchmarks with the same settings, else your information is useless.

Seems a little pointless, yes Windows 7 is meant to use less resources and have a few features extra no one will use like support for expensive touch screens, but the beta also has only half the processes the retail will likely ship with. sarcasm.gif

EDIT: yeh by the way im not bashing you and saying don't do this, its still interesting to see, im merely pointing out it shouldn't be used as an absolute. smile.gif

windows 7 is just windows xp with a nice (but useless) skin  icon14.gif

Keep your completely uneducated post's in your own head.

Windows 7 uses Vista's framework, but much more improved/optimized than Vista was.

It's really great and fast now, faster than XP even, from what I've seen so far playing around with it.

Plus when it's released, DirectX 11 will be coming with it, which is a f*cking awesome update.

Now to all the retards arguing whether or not his copy is pirated... WHY DOES IF f*ckING MATTER! Give me 1 good reason why it matters.

Thousands of people have already download the Windows 7 beta from torrent and direct download sources. The Windows 7 beta is a free product, so your not hurting Microsoft in any way. There's absolutely nothing wrong with downloading it. So get your heads out of your asses and stop filling this thread with your bullsh*t.

(p.s: A sale that never was, is never lost. Losses due to piracy are immensely over exaggerated and based on almost nothing.)

I've tried it and I can tell you it runs f*cking smooth. Somewhere around here 24-26 Vista=30-33 Win7; 30 Vista=40 Win7

Seriously smooth and the only problem I found is that the water rendering is f*cked up. It looks like jelly because the small detailed waves shader is not present for some reason. (8800gts512; 181.00) but I can live with that, otherwise it's a win win.

BWARazor: Might I ask how you managed to install GTA IV on Windows 7?

I have tried, but the game says it won't install because it doesn't support this OS, (obviously.)

How did you get around that check?

I see alot of people complain here about how stupid something like this is, checking how a BETA Windows does with Gta IV becouse its a beta. And so many people here say that its illiegal to talk about windows 7 and testing it. And when thats not enough, people here seems to get the urge to complain about this not beeing possible and whatnot.

Newsflash, this is merly a test to just compare how Windows 7 performes against Vista and for those who have thought about trying installing windows 7, but havent done it becouse they dont even know if Gta IV works on it. But guess what, it dos work , i had significant improvement, and it didnt have anything to do with "fresh" install, becouse i "upgraded" and kept all of registry keys and software. So this test shows that it works, it works maybe better than vista already in beta stage. And its legal to anyone to try, also works in lots of other big titles wich i have tested myself. So please stop it with all the whining, and just take this thread with a big tablespoon smile.gif

must apologize if my english writing is bad.

That doesnt tell my anything. If it had such an improvement for you why not post any results ?

Why i guestion both you and threadstarter is that the performance issues that GTAIV has, have nothing to do with your hardware or your software. Its the game itself that has poor support for our hardware and software. Its a bad port. It performs badly both in XP and Vista.

My computer is as follows:

Quad 2.4 Ghz currently running at 3.0Ghz.

8GB of PC8500 memory. (Dominator)

nVIDIA GTX280 XXX Edition

X-Fi Elite Pro Soundcard

I am running at default settings, only changed texture quality to highest and resolution to 1920x1200. I get an average of 42 fps which is very low for any game. 60 fps is per definition MINIMUM in any game. I know i am running at high resolution but my hardware should kill this game easily but it doesnt. This game has poor optimization and i am irritated at Rockstar , not because they havent fixed it yet not at all .... but because they wont admit it is an issue at all. There has been NO official messages from them at all even they read this forum.

And on top of that the multiplayer is broken, hardly any players are online and why ? Well no dedicated servers which results in laggy matches since 1 person cant host a 32-player server alone. Thats insane Rockstar ! What the hell ?

And when matches ends you cant continue with retry with the same players, you suddenly jump to a new server ! There are no rounds ? Give me a break. This is bad design Rockstar and you know it.

A couple of tips on installing GTA IV in Windows 7 (beta):

  • don't use the Autorun feature
  • browse to the GTA IV CD1
  • start RGSC\setup.exe
  • when it's finished, create a shortcut to GTAIV\setup.exe (on your desktop for instance)
  • right-click on this shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility tab
  • check the "Run this program in compatiblity mode for"
  • select Windows XP Service Pack 2 in the combobox
  • you could also change the Privilege Level, but it's not necessary (see last step)
  • start the setup using this shortcut
  • if you don't have the correct Privilege Level, you're going to get some install errors (in the Visual C++ redistributable section); ignore these
  • if the setup has finished, browse to the GTA IV CD1, GTAIV\Redistributable, right-click on vcredist_x86.exe and select "Run as administrator"
Voila, you now have installed GTA IV in Windows 7! Have fun playing the game!

I have posted my results in my previous thread "How to get increase in performance Gta IV" . But this is just my point, yes ofcourse Gta IV is a VERY bad port and we all know about its bugs, and im not saying windows 7 fixes any of thos, actually causing more problem in starting it. But im just trying to say that most people running it on windows 7 will get better fps or same. Just stating that windows 7 will be a very good one since its just in the beta 1 stage.

But for the rest of what you are saying, im totally agreeing with you. Gta IV has to much bugs and problems in the first place.

Thanks for this fine guide of yours smile.gif Find it maybe little bit to advanced, becouse you dont need to do so much just to install and run it. But its fine that way to so smile.gif

As it seems from main point of view, this thread is pretty useless, we did'nt get any true comparison resuls, in same low settings on benchmarks from any one that can prove it (posting some numbers without screens is not enough).

so if someone want to compare OS for this game or other game - please post real result (with screens captures or movies).

better try to use the 2006 3dmark benchmark, after it is the benchmarks of the game, and only then use fraps (better with a short video capture).

without results, wa all will make pointless talk to forever.

note: we all know that win 7 is faster then vista, but not how much faster. we didn't compare win 7 to xp witch is faster then vista either.
