Search you harddrive for *SGTA4*. * is a wild card so the search will list any files with SGTA4 in the file name. SGTA4 is the name of the savegame files with a number after the 4 added for each savegame. The first time you do this you will know where your old/current savegame files are. After you do this, go into the game and make a new save(start a new game and save it or save an existing game in a different slot). Then go back out to Windows and search again. Sort the results by date and the newest file will be in the new save game location. Right-Click on that and select "Open file location". Then just move your old/current savegame files there. You'll have to close the whole game and open it again for the moved savegame files to be seen in the new location.

Additional notes on savefiles:

* savefiles are now located in the folder:

(for Windows Vista) %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\

(for Windows XP) %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\

NOTE: don't forget to copy savegames to the new location

My GTAIV can't find its own savegames but EFLC can. It worked in 1.0.6.0. Bug?

I found out the problem For whatever reason both IV/EFLC are loading save games from

c:\Users\namehere\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_1000100010001000\

What the hell? I remember first version that added EFLC had this problem.

I signed up on this forum solely to thank you for posting such a great fix to my troubles...

I was going mad trying to fix this "Load failed. Please check your hard drive" problem.

What a drag! Especially that I'm like 3 missions away from the end (from what I could tell on google).

All I had to do was move the save game files from

C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\save games\user_e000...... etc (some weird code)

to

C:\Users\John\My Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\save games

Thank you so much!

If you're talking about my searching trick, then you're welcome. Listener should add that to the first post and maybe the FAQ. Its a very good way to resolve the savegame location issues alot of people are having(if I do say so myself).

In patch 6 RGSC was changed from its own process to a DLL. Now to disable it, you have to delete paul.dll from the GTAIV folder. Or just rename it.

I notice some strange behavior in my game that seems related to Xlive.

I decide to play again, installed, but this time I updated to 1.0.4, and was using this old Xlive 0.95 and didn't bother to check about the support. The game runned from the Social Club frontend (I didn't remember how was before) and I just skiped. My old save was in the My Documents, but of course, the game didn't loaded from there, since the xlive and game version was incompatible. But I didn't know about that, and since I want to start from the beginning, I just didn't bother.

OK, enough with the story. After the new Xliveless 0.999b7, with the saves proper loading from My Documents folder, and no Social Club I notice that when I bump into peds when walking, they just bend over with the arms relaxed and move the head to my direction. Running in the stripclub made all the girls start to run like I was shooting or something, and the bouncers came close to me like I was doing something wrong. The first mission of Manny that he ask me to follow a guy and then clean up the warehouse, the front door that was suppose to be locked just open up with the lock floating in the air. Looks like Nico is being consider like a vehicle, I guess. biggrin.gif

I download and tested all the versions os Xliveless that gives support to 1.0.4 and all do the same thing with the peds.

I cleaned up any other dll and asi to see if was a mod and nothing.

I change to asi loader or that old Xlive, both make the game run from the Social Club, start a new game and test by bumping into peds when on foot, and it's normal.

So, my guess that is something with Xlive + 1.0.4 version.

Sorry the long story, I tried to make myself clear. biggrin.gif

Latest version tells me it only supports 1.1.1.0 and won't run. Hmm.... tried debugger version too.

26/06/2010 22:23:59.141 Log started (xliveless 0.999b7)26/06/2010 22:23:59.141 GetModuleHandle returns 0029000026/06/2010 22:23:59.141 [EXE] unprotecting section '.text': addr = 0x00001000, size = 0x0094700026/06/2010 22:23:59.141 [EXE] unprotecting section '.rdata': addr = 0x00948000, size = 0x001bf00026/06/2010 22:23:59.141 Patching OK (EfLC 1.1.2.0 - update 7)

Thank you so much to the developers of this patch! I can finally use the new shadows/higher fps and my savegames! But, I do have a problem and it's probably common. Everytime I run the game, I have to re-enable directinput, invert y axis, subtitles, and controller vibration. Does anyone know why this is, or what I can do about it? Thanks again!

For developers it would be helpful to manually edit the savegame location. I'd love to have different IV versins running, each with an own SG location so I can test scripts/mods on different patches.

Any chance this might happen?

Originally where are the save games located? Because I would like to recover my own save game

Using Windows 7 here

Go to this location (paste it into the Windows Explorer address bar): %LOCALAPPDATA%\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames

There should be at least two folders called user_invalid and user_(random_charset). Get into the latter directory and look for files beginning with SGTA4**. Those are your savegames.

Im having trouble getting my backed up saves to work in windows7, i did what the guy above me said, but it still says failed to load check your harddrive. I then tried making a new save right at the start, locating that folder and copying my saves in there, but i get the same thing.

I agree... EFLC has Its own Game folder:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\TBoGT & %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\TLAD

why not moving the savegames there?

any chance??

If I could get some help, that would be awesome

I put the xlive.dll in the same folder as my gtaiv.exe

I put the scripthook.dll in the same place along with the ingametrainer.asi and ingametrainer.ini

Now the ingametrainer readme says that I need to push F1 to bring up the menu but I push it and nothing happens

I'm pretty sure xlive.dll is working because I didn't transfer my save files the first time I started the game and a new game started. So I did copy my save files over to the new location and I'm back where I was. Is there something I'm leaving out or some settings I have to change?

I also start the game using GTAIVlauncher as the OP directed. I've read the OP several times and can't figure out what I need to do, any help would be appreciated.

TestiSkills

I'm having a slight problem with xliveless and playerselection.asi

The game works great, everything loads up and the player selection mod works. However, all the text on the menus are gone. Ex, when I you start GTA4, there should be Start, Options, etc. at the bottom of the screen, and when you press escape there should be display, audio, controls, game, etc etc etc. However, this text does not appear, and neither does the text in the menus. I can still select the headings, but theyre invisible. Can anyone help?

I am using the newest version of Xliveless, with version 1.4 player selection mod and GTA4 patched to 1.0.4. I haven't modded anything else in the game.
