How to get increase in performance Gta IV

after 30 frames the Human eye will perceive it as fluid motion

but as you increase FPS it will seem crisper (higher sample rate = more accurate)

i would like to see the game hold a solid 40 frames to play well

in games you will never have a steady FPS compared to a movie where the framerate NEVER changes

(unless youre pinning the needle like i do in CS:Source at 300)

the change in FPS is what the eye will pick up not the individual frames

and seeing how your thread starter said that 7 gave you a noticeable bump in FPS which led to OTHERS talking about how the eye perceives it (which when all is said and done, how your brain interprets the info fed to it by your eyes is whats important in regards to FPS)

 

i do somewhat agree that where the thread led was a lil off topic and would be suited more to a game that worked well out of the box

thats still no reason to be a douchebag extraordinaire

i doubt it especially seeing as thats a VM for linux, it would be horrifically slow.

 

if you must, search for "Windows 7 Beta 7000" without the quotes

You will need to install windows 7 on a new drive or make a new partition on an existing drive, i wouldn't recommend doing it unless you know exactly what you are doing and just want to test the new OS out of interest. It's very stable and runs great but you wont want to replace Vista/XP with it yet, there are no updates for a start.

I think that the "VMWare Virtual Machine" gives a option to run new OS from the old win xp\vista.. I searched in youtube for "VMWare Virtual Machine".

first I have win xp sp3, and I will go to end of the world for additional 5-15 fps for gta.

I got a noticeable difference in team fortress 2 in Windows 7 compared to brand new installation of Vista (with useless processes turned off) So i can believe there will be some performance gain, i would have tested GTA4 myself but it's an old machine.

TF2 is different and I doubt you even got an extra 20 fps out of that from it. It does perform a bit better than Vista for gaming. XP is prob still best for DX9 if you don't need mountains of RAM as well.

it's a beta version so at the moment no it probably won't be.

 

and secondly not if you run it as a VM it will perform A LOT worse might aswell install windows ME if your going to run it as a VM

I see alot of you have trouble beliving this increase in fps. I will do a new clean install of vista on another HD tomorrow, to cross compare the two Os. If theres people who want to see how the game performes in xp also, to compare it, i will do a clean install of that to , to proove that Windows 7 is actually very good in games, tried it with Crysis, Bioshock, Assassins Creed and Fallout 3, all of wich had more fps to gain from this Os.

 

My specs are:

 

E8500

9800GT 1GB

6GB RAM

 

Using the beta 181.00 Driver. Haven't tested older versions yet, maybe they to will have an impact.

What is smooth according to you then? 60+ FPS? That's silly, when i play i get around 10-20, good enough for me.

 

45-50 atleast. 10-20 is not good enough, atleast not if you want to enjoy it to max. 30-40 is good enough for me, but it is not smooth.

The human eye (brain actually) interprets everything with an FPS >25 as smooth!

ofcourse i had up to 22fps in vista, but the avrage was about 15fps. Im not saying Windows 7 makes miracles! Becouse it dosent, im just saying compared to vista it has its fps gains in a number of games. What i get in xp i really dont know yet, prob better than 7.

XP can't use DX10 (well not officially), but GTA4 is DX9 and runs as DX9 on all 3 of these OSes.

Ok i tell you what, i got the Beta, because im Beta tester, im installing it on a partition in about an half hour, then i will post you screenshots tonight, but im just able to compare vista and windows 7, i dont have xp .

 

Maybe anyone could make a xp/windows 7 compare.

 

I guess Windows 7 will improve fps , but im not sure if it goes higher then xp, would be nice!
