Should we have a no-disc game?

Recommended Posts

Rockstar , i know for security reasons that you add the disk check as an act against piracy . But with securom in the game , should you relax abit on the disk check? EA has included a no - dvd game and thus consumers are able to play without the disc present in the dvd-drive . It is quite inconvenient with the disc always present in the drive . And for those who think i am a pirate , you are wrong . I hate my disc being in the drive as it restricts what i can and cannot do . I still can tolerate with GTA IV since it is a great game but i really hope that it can be played without a disc .

I've bought the legal version of the game, and yes it's bugging me to hell.

Would be great to have a legit no-CD executable, people will get them from 'warez' sites anyway, why not have it available by CD key activation for example?

It *is* inconvenient to have the CD in the drive just for playing. I bought crysis too, and had to go to an illegal site to get a no-CD patch. I bought the game, why can't I play it freely?

yes, I think they should provide a no-dvd patch. I just don't think they will... that's why I took the initiative of dling one of those "independent patches" and put the dvd safely back into its box. smile.gif

Can you still save the game after doing that?

If you can I'll probably look for 1 as well. It's not like R* loses out anything by users not inserting the CD...

Yes the no-dvd patch works fine, even allows you to play online, all it does is remove the sh*terom checks. Strictly speaking though, as I understand it we're not allowed to discuss cracks here so I'm not going to mention who the no-dvd patch that everyone should be looking for is credited to.

I believe ALL games should have a no-dvd, but with the bean counters at the top always concerned about piracy (i.e. not making enough $, despite not losing any either...) there will never be any official no-dvd patches, not now, last game I know of that had one was Dawn of War Dark Crusade by Relic. And that was a few years ago now.

I don't see the point either. Bethesda also has games for windows and fallout 3 doesn't need the dvd either. Why can't rockstar do the same ?? It's a real hassle to put the dvd in and out just to play a game. And since i bought it they also have securom on it. So i don;t see the problem either. I nkow they are trying to protect there investments but i also trying to protect my dvd from scratches. So the more i play it the more i have to put it in the dvd drive the the bigger the chance get for scratches to appear. And that is what i am trying to avoid here.

yes, I can. smile.gif and yes, disc-in-drive copy protection is as likely to prevent illegal game distribution as the dodos are to one day come back and rule the earth.

come to think of it, it might even be less likely... what with the advances in genetics and what have you not. moto_whistle.gif

Hey , you are missing out THQ Supreme Commander. It was an official patch to remove the dvd check so it went no-dvd.

Well I did say last game I know of...

Funny thing is that I didn't even know DoW DC had a no-dvd fix, it came after the first patch was released, and they never told anyone.

I do not know if it just my drive, or the crappy secureom however one of the things i noticed is that when i play the game, it tells me to insert disc1 to play. Only problem, is that disc is in the drive but securerom is too lazy to spin the drive making me eject the drive and put it back in again

and fallout 3 doesn't need the dvd either

Excuse me? I dont know where you 'bought' your game from but my official Fallout 3 DVD certainly needs to be in the drive when I want to play, and Im sure many others are as well.

However I do agree on the front that they should work out a legal way to have a No Disc executable to avoid disc wear n tear.

well i use a DVD image to fool secuROM that my DVD1 is inside.... i don't want to scratch my DVD anymore(it already has a few scratches)..... what is the point of having securom anyways when you have GFWL....

It's not about buying from steam ... it's great to have a physical cd but using it too much will create wear and tear on it . And cant find a no-cd patch . Most are illegal and rockstar should produce a legal no-dvd patch.

Mate your not looking hard enough, Send me a PM. icon14.gif

Rockstar just wanted to throw it in the pirates faces, just for sh*ts and giggles. Didn't work out too well though. What bothers me is that they spent millions of dollars and time to install these security checks and various sh*t instead of polishing the game.
