Error Code DD3D30 and joystick

I bought this game the day after christmas and was looking forward to playing as I have enjoyed the othe GTA games. I was glad that it had finally came out as a PC version. I installed the game adn all that other junk that came with it. Then when I went to start the game all I got was an a fatal error message DD3D30. I went to the GTA IV homepage and the only answer they had was reboot the system. Duh like I would never have thought of that. They must think we PC users are morons. I googled th fault error and found a temporary answer to the problem. It said to change my resolution to 800x600 then start the game then I could change the resolution back to what I want after. It worked but having to do that every time I want to play the game is a joke. Plus my animated cursors don't work after I end the game and I have to reboot the computer again. Not to mention each time I have to rearrange my desktop icons every time as well.

 

Then I discover I have only 2 options to play the game either keyboard and mouse or the xbox 360 controller for windows. All previous versions allowed me to use my joystick as well as a keyboard and mouse combination. I would use the keyboard and mouse for all foot missions and the joystick for the driving missions. I have managed a work around and got my logitech attack 3 joystick to work for driving missions. I don't know how it will work for flying ones though as I haven't got that far in the game missions yet.

 

I could go out and buy I a 360 xbox controller for windows but after paying $50 for the game then having to fork out another $50 bucks for a controller that I would only be using for this game seems a little too expensive for my budget is there some kind of conspiracy going on with micrsoft and rock star games.

 

I am impressed with graphics in the game as my new computer exceeds both the minimum and recommended requirements of the game. I was jealous of all the people who got to play this on their game consoles first. But it seems that the PC has caught up to the graphics quality of thes game consoles. I haven't bought a game console for 2 reasons. The games are more expensive then PC games and they come out with a new console every so many years and the old games become obsolete. I learned my lesson with Sega. At least when I buy a new computer all my games can still be played.

 

The other reason I haven't bought a game console is because of my minor disability. I am missing my index finger and half of my middle finger on my right hand and I have minor flexibility with my thumb. So I find holding and operating a 360 controller very awkward, hence the reason for me using a joystick or a keyboard mouse combination.

 

I hope Rockstar comes out with a patch that fixes the fatal error problem because I find having to change my screen resolution more then a little annoying *^&%$#@##. Considering I have a 24 inch widescreen monitor and 800x600 resoution is a waste. I might as well go back to a 15" CRT. A joystick option would be nice too and I hope the take it into consieration though I suspect there is some kind of conspiracy going on with them and Microsoft.
