Is my computer good enough?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

This is my first post, so my name is jay and I luurv the GTA series.

I recently bought a new computer. Is it strong enough to play GTA 4, here are the specs:

AMD 64 6400+ X2 - 3.2ghz (per core)

Nvidia Geforce 8600GT (Special 1gb version)

4gb's RAM

Sound blaster 7.1 HD sound card

Windows vista home premium (32bit)

550W PSU

If my computer is capable of running it, will the games FPS be high enough to enjoy the game.

What graphics settings should I run it (if I can)

Regards,

Jay

Yes and no.

Yes it SHOULD run GTAIV with acceptable frame rates.

Chances are you WILL NOT get acceptable frame rates.

It's like buying a lottery ticket, do you feel lucky? suicidal.gif

That sort of summs it up.You don't need a really high end card for this game because it's processor intensive,so guess you'll do fine.Maybe you'll get around 20-35 FPS depending on the settings. But if your machine manages that, than it deserves a cookie.gif

Thanks for the fast reply.

Please remember my GFX card is special edition and above the rest, it cost me double the original price of 8600GT. What settings should I run the game on to get an enjoyable GTA experience.

Jay

Whatever settings you can run that give you a decent frame rate. I can't tell you what settings you should run. All I can tell you is that GTAIV relies heavily on cpu power, and not so much on gpu power.

Is my CPU not powerful enough?

Its the black edition and most people refer it as being a high end CPU.

Regards,

Jay

Bottom line expect this game to run at 10fps on 800x600 everything on low.

Your CPU is below standard for gaming and your video card is a piece of sh*t and I dont give a damn if its the special edition.

haha you are a douche bag.

Don't listen to RuWarlord he is tard who doesn't know when to quit trolling.

Your PC should be able to play at 25+ fps provided you got all the updates and such and don't try to play on all max.

Kidding? That's how much real, in-game, fps I get with my rig, sometimes drops to below 20 with weather effects, so good luck to this dude.

your low cpu will kill your frames, for this game the gpu almost does'nt matter, sorry for you.

I have:

q6600 2.4

2 gb ram

9800gt 512 mb

win xp sp3

on 1280x1024 with everything on full max I getting 25-30 fps blush.gif .

with my cheap cpu you could get 35-45 fps on 1280x1024 and 25-30 fps on 1920x1050 lol.gif .

your cpu may give you 10-20 fps on min res 800x600 with min settings suicidal.gif .

you won't play on normal or bellow normal res and settings orly.gif .

yeah the gpu isnt that much important as graphics arent the top. Just the cpu is the single most important factor.

With my e8400 @ 3ghz, and car density at 10, im getting 40-60 fps everywhere, at 1440x900. Changing doesnt not help.

No offence but why buy the "special" edition of the 8600gt when you could of bought an 8800gt or better instead?

All they did was overclock it slightly and put an aftermarket cooler on it. dozingoff.gif

Ok I thought I would buy crysis before GTA 4 to test how good my computer really is.

I got 40+ fps on mid settings with 1024x768. I also bought CoD4 to test it and got 80+ fps on high settings (with 4x AA).

This tells me that I SHOULD be able to run GTA 4 on about 25+ fps, I'm no expert but if I can run crysis I can run this.

Funny, i got an AMD Athlon X2 64 5000+ CPU with a 8800GTS 320MB and 4gigs of DDR2 RAM; and the game runs better at 1440x1200 reso compared to what the game originally reccomends me to.

I'm just gonna wait to see if there is indeed a fantasy patch to solve FPS issues before ploughing down more cash to upgrade my rig.

For the time being the game plays at acceptable frame rates. Still, not worth the $60 bucks i spent on.

Somebody already said it earlier, it's going to be like playing the lottery. There are people who run it great with rigs worse than yours, and people who can't even run it with top of the line hardware. It's going to be a crapshoot. If you really want the game just buy it and try it out. We can't tell you what to do. The best we can give you is that it should be able to run it.

NO way. 10FPS stable at lowest posible setting

Right process should be: Steal, try, throw out Definately do be beggin with "buy" It's not recommended

The truth. Trying to run GTA IV PC decently is just like gambling.
