Mouse Spin, Freezes, Hard Lock, Reboots:

Recommended Posts

I notice once in a while, though it only happens until I shake my mouse like "wtf?" and goes back to normal, I encounter the Mouse Spin bug (no controllers attached). Again, I am only affected momentarily, then back to business.

Now, I am wondering if most of the problems we all face with this game are indeed on our side. Please hear me out, as I really need a solution or else I am, and if its the same we all are, screwed.

How many have bugs with this game and also upgraded some hardware for it? Those who did not upgrade any hardware, I think their bugs are likely to be the kinds that are from the game, not from our own machines. My reasoning is simple enough, this game runs like a dream for me until it freezes.

1.86ghz e6320 (c2duo)

2GB DDR2 PC4200(533mhz)

Radeon HD 3850 512mb DDR3 (AGP - though it makes no difference - AGP is old but just as fast in Today's graphics cards - however I have a cheap mobo and VIA based as well...)

Game runs great, I cannot complain, EXCEPT sometimes the sound glitches, and all of a sudden, it sounds like everything has distortions in it, which comes and goes as it pleases, and is very very rare.

However, this may happen only when I escape a hard lock, which results in the last 1/10th of a second of sound looping like the worst-skipping CD ever and that happens Every time I play this game. It also happens when watching some videos, when running Aquamark 3D (old, but just for troubleshooting this bug - which has no sound during the test AFAIK), and when I boot up windows, 9 times out of 10, my "welcome/login sound/music (that windows 'theme')" will skip, sometimes just a click or two in the sound, other times it literally disgusts my ears.

I have disabled QuickBoot in my AMI bios, which is pretty limited and I can't change IRQs (I think, unless there is some secret menu) and I know IRQs shouldn't matter from XP through Vista (XP SP3, btw) but here is the interesting part.

My Sound Card (SB Audigy SE) shares an IRQ with a USB controller (not joypad), my GFX card shares an IRQ with another usb controller, and my integrated NIC shares an IRQ with yet another.

Relevance? I use a USB keyboard, logitech not sure the model, and a USB mouse as well. No adapters, they go right into my usb ports.

I don't know what to do, if you search for the lock up problem on google, you will find hundreds of forum topics with people with GFX card upgrades that lockup their computer, and many point to sharing. I put this all together in the hopes that someone more hardware savvy can put the same 2 and 2 together and maybe my problems can ind help while others can solve the mysterious mouse problems?

Thanks!

edit:

What I have tried:

Edit IRQ manually in bios - cant, it seems

All kinds of settings in bios

With and without sound, with and without onboard/pci solution

multiple reinstalls of OS

changed from ACPI machine, no joy

power is sufficient far as I can tell, but maybe I should post screens from readouts in apps like cpuz etc?

All things are stock as far as I can tell, all devices have not been overclocked by me.
