Random FPS Drop

Recommended Posts

Hello, biggrin.gif

I am new here to the forums so be nice (-:

Well every thing started when I got GTA IV for PC on Christmas.

I already have GTA IV for console but I love the game so much I decided to get it for PC ( I never play PC games)

Everything started yesterday when I played for the first time.

The game is great (running at 50fps) for the first minute because after that from no were the fps lowers dramatically to 3fps

Making it unplayable! and this is for no reason I am not even in a police chase or anything!

When the frame rate drops it doesn’t go back!

At the moment I am playing on ALL settings on low and it makes no difference same thing happens

This is what I got on my benchmark test:

Statistics

Average FPS: 2.70

Duration: 31.85 sec

CPU Usage: 98%

System memory usage: 71%

Video memory usage: 32%

Graphics Settings

Video Mode: 1024 x 768 (60 Hz)

Texture Quality: Low

Render Quality: Low

View Distance: 1

Detail Distance: 1

Hardware

Microsoft® Windows Vista" Home Premium

Service Pack 1

Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS

Video Driver version: 167.64

Audio Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)

Intel® Core2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2.00GHz

I know my computer isnt amazing but 3fps! and it was running at 50fps 30 seconds before!

I heard of people that have systems worse than mine and it is playable!

My brain is telling me the processor is melting lol I don’t even know if that is possible!

I love GTA i so want to play on PC but I am about to sell it on ebay!

Does anyone any idea of what is happening?

I soo want to play this game help would be much appreciated

PS: Today is my bad day got GTA that doesn’t work on my PC and got a NEW psp with a few dead pixels

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH suicidal.gif

Your average fps is 2.7 ??? is that correct? I can render 30,000 exploding oil barrels in Crysis ReAL TIME faster than that///

OP what is your 3dmark score? Can your laptop pass all stress test like prime numbers and pi testing? What other intensive games have you played on that laptop? You may need Everest or coretemp to record your temps while playing GTAIV to see if its a temperature issue. Or it could be securom DRM, my performance went 5fps faster after I "patched" my game and got rid of securom on my pc..

That might be it!

Where can you please give me a link for a new driver for my graphivs card.

Please, please...

I dont understand much about drivers and that stuff I dont want to download the wrong one!

My laptop is Acer Aspire 6920G

The strange thing is that my computer doesnt even get hot or anything!

wat do u expect ? 30fps ? lmao

I didnt expect 30fps I just expected to be playable on low settings...

I cant take it back beacause the shop doesnt take PC games back.

So as I said in my original post if everything fails i will put it on ebay.

That is bad advise. Vista gets bum rap from know nothings with loud mouths.

Vista is a fine operating system for the current time. Xp is piece of ugly 16 bit crap.

Evolve or die people.. Xp has sorry driver support, poor ability to handle drivers for

most current video cards and processors. I mean come on, when xp was created

we only had one fricken core.

Crysis is a miss coded bloated piece of pretty looking boring redundant garbage with crap AI.

op Your laptop is fine. It will have a hard time running the game because laptops get hot

and your processor is just below specs. If it played it before, it will play it now very well.

just you might be getting to hot. I would try the cheap thing and figure how to increase the cold air flow into

the case of that laptop for now, if that does not solve your issue, we will have to think of other methods.

normal/fine

Thank you for your help you are great.

Do you have any other ideas?

It is amazing one second it is runing as smooth as smooth can get and them bang!

Low fps and starts to freeze!

Graphics card cant be because everything is on low and I used the turn ram to vram trick

I have vista 32 and vista 32 can only use 3gb of ram so I aded a litle vram (I have 4gb of ram)

Well...your laptop is not sh*t!!!Do not listen to kind of people....

My one is weaker then yours, only have 1.73ghz cpu,and a 8400m gt gpu,and I can play on average 13 or 14 fps with overclocked gpu and 3gb ram in vista home premium.

I found all the solutions here, since I`ve got textures and faster gameplay then before,so look around and you`ll find how to make the game better.

Drivers for your video card:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_noteb...79.28_beta.html

A graphical tweak (follow instructions):

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=384473

A better blur than the default (activate with P in-game):

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=386262

Try on the lowest settings first (low,low,0,0,26,0), and then increase it a bit if it works fine. Increase the densitys first before you change textures and rendering.

No problem man.

Thank you but i tried all of that and i failed! same issue!

Well i guees it must be the computer that hates me!

and to be honest I hate him too.

well gues I have to go back to GTA IV on ps3 cryani.gif

It must be something that trigers something that makes something happen in the game and makes the frame rate sudenly drop!

Maybe I need to reformat my laptop!

Its a shame I was so looking foward to playing on PC with all the mods

I dont see the point of saving money for a good PC if in the end I am going to only play GTA with a 360 controller.

I am going to sell GTA IV on saturday dontgetit.gif

The thing that I dont understand is that a PS3 has 512 of RAM and the game runs amazingly well (not as good a good PC)
