This is getting f*cking boring. Every 2 minutes a new topic is created mocking this game. Fine, let's end this, if you don't have a proper PC, then don't bother buying this game at all. It's really that easy isn't it? or even better, buy a console. I know this is a lazy port and all but the game is still great, even better (when you have the right pc to run it) than the console's version. The game works fine here and for alot of people I know with lower end PC. Get over it. Jesus.

Shut up you soppy MUG.

The game runs like pure concentrated SHIT on really good PCs.

Wow, some of you surely act like little kids when it comes to posting comments.. Everything has always got to be negative when it comes to a game in which your pos pc cant run. Not our fault you buy AMD processors and crappy ATI cards...The real reason behind most peoples struggles getting the game going right is the type of hardware you got in your comp..My roomate has an AMD Phenom x4 2.5Ghz with ATI HD4870 1GB Card and 8GB of RAM that he bought about 3 months ago, and he can barely run the game with a godawfull 10-15 FPS..Now I just got myself a Intel Q9650 OCed to 3.4Ghz with a 8800GTS 640MB Card and 8GB of OCZ 1066 RAM..The gameplay is smooth and I rarely get below 20 FPS. The video settings on both machines are the same. This tells me the game runs like crap on any AMD processors (AMD blows im not sure why u ppl invest in a sh*t ass processor that cant even run a blackberry program, and wont allow the new G15 keyboard to work, not to mention you need a wack full of AMD updates just to get the pc running, then theres ATI..dont even get me started on them)..

I agree that the porting is done very poorly, but to be honest, its most of your pc's that are having the issue, not the game itself. I haven't had 1 hiccup, crash, staggering video play (other than when its raining sometimes) or any other troubles that most of you are having...Then again I spent money on the game, unlike some who torrent it and whine on here about how many bugs are in it.

As for some of your attitudes, take a frikin valume, rearrange your panties and quit whining about how your gonna take "criminal action" (this comes from useless kids who don't even got the money to sue a multi billion dollar company nor the balls to do so. People that talk like this are honestly talkin out their asses) or " Ill never buy another R* product" (good dont, the 5% of you people who got problems aint gonna hurt R* finances)...It aint R* fault its your fault for not reading the recommendations and again your fault for not buying the game simple as that!!

So you think you've seen it all because GTAIV works great on your pc. Another unexperienced, worthless fanboy who doesn't know anything about PCs and software.

Shut the f*ck up, please, or better, stop considering your pc the center of the world.

Oh well, I guess that makes it all OK then, eh?

OK folks! Nothing more to see here! The game "runs fine" on his PC. Well done Rockstar, you've done us proud. It "runs fine" on his PC. Wonderful.

I guess we won't be seeing much of you then, since you'll be too busy playing the game "fine" on your PC?

Off you go then... don't let us hold you back.

Just one question... If they DO release a properly ported version of GTA IV, do you all think that they wouldn't loose lots of money? I mean... I'm pretty sure that most of you guys have pirated the game, but not only because it "sucks" on PC, but mainly because you didn't have enough cash, or just wanted to get it for free...

The main reason why this happened is:

#1 - They released the same f*cking game on another platform, after the console release... it took 6 months to port it.

#2 - The little bitches who can't f*cking buy this game are always downloading it.

#3 - They didn't care about their fan base... and that's a really bad decision, it your company's future depends on one f*cking product. whatsthat.gif

I'm pretty sure I could show you my retail box of GTAIV. It's near the fireplace, in case I run out of paper to start the fire. And as an IT professional I'm pretty sure I'm not so dumb to post in a public forum bitching about a pirated game, so stop your finger pointing unless you have some proof of what you're so sure about, because the only thing I'm sure about is the fact that GTAIV is a sloppy work and if I ever faced a Rockstar programmer for a job interview (that's my task, too!) I'd show him the door instantly yelling to him not to ever show his face again. It's very unlikely to happen since I live in Italy, but who knows...

If they simply announce that there will be a performance patch that will make the game run as it should, I will buy it immediately on Steam even if that said patch takes months to come. I'm actually going to take their word for it even after all the misleading things they've said already. This is a position I've repeatedly stated on this forum but it hasn't made me immune to the malignant militia that shout down any complaint; I'm characterised along with others as a whiner.

No western development house has ever produced an on-going successful franchise without the PC; only the Asian developers have ever managed it. Despite Halo being delayed, it was good on PC, then Microsoft, Bungie and Gearbox failed to treat the platform with respect for Halo 2 and it has been something of a poisoned chalice ever since.

GTA IV had the potential to sell as well as Half-Life on the PC; it really is very good. But it's a shame about the port. A great number of sales can still be made with a patch to make it as it should have been, but the window for the massive sales has passed. All the good-will has been squandered by the state of the port and Rockstar giving out confused signals.

Hope you don't mind me "pirating" your words, but I feel a paraphrase coming on...

If they simply announce that there will be a performance patch that will make the game run as it should, I will shelve it immediately on the promise that I'll eventually get to play it as it should have been, even if said patch takes months to come.

...this is my position. No more BS, Rockstar. Fix what you know damn well to be wrong. That's all we ask, and a bit of "keeping us (who've already paid for it) in the loop", for the sake of decency. If you let people vent in public over your near non-existent communication, you'll get what's coming; massive dissent, and a reputation that, given your prior achievements, you should not deserve.

Yep, even things like "buy a proper PC" are getting boring. Care to know why? Because I already got a proper PC. Three of them, exactly, although only one is dedicated to gaming (and gaming alone), connected to a 32'' HDTV. And you know what? Turdist is right. Am I getting over it? No. Why? BECAUSE I PAID 50 EUROS, DAMN. I bought GTAIV, not Big Rigs!

If your "proper" PC is a Pentium 4/1GB RAM/Geforce 7 series card then you are either living under a rock or too stupid to understand that this game was released in LATE 2008 which means that only late 2008 hardware (aka core i7) will be able to play it at highest settings with high framerates, and yes it is capable of doing that.

I am satisfied from the performance I'm getting from my rig and I never expected a 100FPS so I don't consider myself buttf*cked. Alot of people are bitching because when they pull the max settings the game isn't smooth. How f*cking pathetic. Enough of the bullsh*t "DIZ GAMEZ RUNS LIK SHIOTZ ON MAH CORE I7 EXTREME LOLZOROWTF1!!! ZOMFG", we all know this ain't true, as I said new hardware can run this game fine and I've tested it myself at 4 different computers with different specs and the game runs the way it should run in every PC I tested on.

Having said that, the game still runs decently on older PCs and by that I mean a 1-2 year old hardware will run this game decently when you lower your settings. If you are complaining about the apps needed to run this game (.net framework/xp sp3 etc) then it's not R*'s fault. You already know that you have to install all these apps before you buy the game. I still can't deny that this game could have been optimized a bit more, but at least we should be grateful that this game made it to the PC.

Bottom line, if you are not satisfied with the game, then either (assuming that you bought it, if you pirated it then STFU):

1)Tweak your PC/settings.

2)Buy a new PC.

3)Sell/refund.

...that was my 2 cents. Go on with your bitching guys while me and many others are enjoying this awesome game!

I said that most of you pirated the game, because I see lots of complaints about the well-known issues caused by having a non-original copy of Grand Theft Auto IV. And just to let you know, there are some pretty clever teachers out there who could teach you to read. I have said before that the game is still a bad port, but they didn't lost money because no one wanted to play the PC version of GTA IV... they are in this situation because of pirates. And that's two different things my friend.

As a starter of this topic I want to clear some things up. First of all I paid for this game and in return I expect to see this game run properly. I currently have 2 rigs that I'm running this game on. One is a P4 3.0ht 2 gb ram with Radeon HD 2600 Pro and the other one is Core Duo 2 E6600 3 gb ram with HD3650 installed and the game runs better on my P4. (12 fps on P4 and 8 fps on Core duo 2) And they both are properly configured with the latest drivers and all. It's stupid I know but that's what I'm dealing with. Also don't get me started with the ugly shadows, black stripes here and there (possibly missing shaders or shadows), disappearing textures etc... And I have same exact problems on both rigs. Don't tell me that I invested on wrong hardware cuz we all know that's bullsh*t. My both rigs run every game that I throw at them flawlessly from Fallout 3 to Farcry2. It doesn't say anywhere on the box that you can run this game on nvidia or intel hardware better right?

You tard. They lied to us. If they had given us accurate minimum and recommended system requirements I wouldn't have liked it, but I wouldn't have bought the game because I would have known I couldn't play it.

They told me I could play the game and I can't, and I'm not an inch closer to getting my 50 bucks back.

for some people this is true,

but for a lot it isn't, for a while my game wasn't playing above 20 fps on everything LOW which for my pc is just rediculous, all this flaming of "get a better pc" does nothing for the few that actually have solvable problems, like i had.

no one is expecting blistering frame rates anyone whose played the console version should know its a laggy POS on that platform also, but telling everyone to "get a better pc" when there is no need to is retarded, but peoples expectations need to be lowered.

in saying that though there is something fundamentally wrong with the game REGARDLESS of your PC spec's and this is due to the original design of the game.

but this helped my game become playable:

1) if you can, have gta 4 on a seperate hardrive

2) DEFRAG YOUR HDD for some reason when i install gta4 all of the files are fragmented causing stuttering and slowdowns

3) if you have an ATI try the tweakforce.com drivers they helped gain a few extra fps

4) Reinstall/upgrade .NET

You're disgusting. I'm just sick of this kiddy finger pointing, since you imply most people bitching here pirated the game. Put away your hanging noose unless you have proof, or have the courage to NAME NAMES, otherwise you're just a big f*cking liar, to use your words.

As for getting something for free, as the company I work for sells software (either self-produced or third party stuff) I would never think about sistematically destroying the business model that gives me the money to eat and buy games. Probably at Rockstar they don't think the same way, otherwise they wouldn't have published this bug ridden pot of crap just to see sales plummeting. I'm angry because I SUPPORT the industry but the industry doesn't support customers. Is it too hard to understand? Put your accusing finger to a better use, next time. I can suggest one.

Edit: and I would like to know about YOUR experience in the IT market... I know about piracy rates. I can see them with my eyes in the business environments. The company I work for chose a path I liked, and that is NEVER INSTALL, NEVER ENCOURAGE PIRACY, because this is risky both for the worker and for the customer. I don't have choices when it comes to installing "extra" licenses: I simply cannot do it. It may be harder for people and firms working honestly, but you can do it, and you have the advantages of not seeing people jailed. At home it can be completely different since no one's going to check and games are not productive means, but this doesn't change the reality: piracy is a problem, but not the problem which is going to destroy the software industry, or kill PC gaming. It's just an excuse people use when they run out of arguments for problems that are widely acknowledged by people who review stuff in their full rights with decent specs having bought the game. Even expert ones, even people who have seen more computers (both at home and at work) than you'll ever see in your entire life.

My gaming PC is a Q9300, 2 GB of RAM, Asus P5Q mobo, ATI Sapphire HD4670 1 GB DDR3, Zalman 600W silent power supply, Windows XP SP3 completely up to date and tuned for performance, unneeded services disabled (and I know what I can safely disable), unneeded startup programs disabled with Sysinternals Autoruns, regularly defragged although half-empty Maxtor hard disk (although in two days it will be replaced by a Velociraptor, NO REINSTALL, I'll use DriveImage XML on BartPE to make a copy). RAM tested with memtest86 and Prime95, working flawlessly at high quality settings with titles such as Fallout 3, not to mention all the other stuff. The computer was also subjected to a 24 hours burn-in test with Eurosoft PCCheck (which I regularly use at work, and no, it's not a dodgy copy...)

No packet capture software installed, no network diagnostics stuff, no virtual machines as on my other computers, no stuff that could interfere with performance or compatibility installed, not even codec packs. No overclocking or funny stuff that could introduce even the slightest sign of unseen instability, although I tested the PC slightly overclocked at 2,8 GHz with no problems at all. All drivers completely up to date. I'm even using a 1360*768 resolution because my TV set is HD ready and not full HD.

Does it sound good enough to run a GTAIV at low settings with no texture popins?

Well, it isn't, and it's not my fault. So stop your P4 rantings.

As a curiosity I'm using a stone age Athlon XP 2400 to type this because it works for web surfing, but I wouldn't think about using it for current games. Zalman fans, Nexus power supply, EgoSys Waveterminal 192X soundcard, a Sonata case and an Aurora keyboard which is great for typing. Still perfect for my needs, still perfect after years of service. Good and reliable hardware has always been important to me. ON EVERY MACHINE.

No overclocking or funny stuff that could introduce even the slightest sign of unseen instability, although I tested the PC at 2,8 GHz with no . All drivers completely up to date. I'm even using a 1360*768 resolution because my TV set is HD ready and not full HD.
