Figured out why GTA4 is bland in some areas

No offense... but you guys sound like 9 year old spoiled brats with no knowledge of how the gaming industry actually works. Your views on the purpose of DLC are comparable to thinking that the government is putting fluoride in the water supply to control your mind or that the moon landings were filmed on a sound stage. There is no conspiracy to leave things out and then charge for them later through downloads... Remember how helicopters were left out of GTA3? Did they do that to force you to buy VC? No. They did that because they needed more time to develop the programming properly on a completely new engine so that it didn't operate like sh*t. Be glad that you have DLC to download and update GTAIV rather than being forced to wait for the next proper installment in the series to get additional weapons and game play. Further more... go read interviews with R* from two years ago... it was made clear from the beginning that GTAIV was going to be kept fairly simple as they were developing a completely new engine. It was also stated that they wanted to go in a more serious and realistic route. They said there would be no planes or tanks from the get go. Add to that the fact the DLC is 360 exclusive... and your logic makes no sense. From a business perspective it makes no sense to release an "incomplete game" on two consoles... and then charging for updates to "complete the game" on only one of those consoles. Regardless of Microsoft paying $50 million... you are guaranteed to alienate 30-40% of your consumer base. This is like a mid cycle semi-sequel along the lines of the stories games... a GTAIV&1/2 if you will. Possibly even just an experiment in how well a game released online only would work.

Can i base a religion around your mind? That is the most intelligent thing i've read here! But sadly it wont be heard here or anywhere mostly on this forum. Common responses could be "STFU n00b gTa4 waS teh sux lol" or "i wun planes cos it r whut gta is alll abowt1!1" and finnaly "omG r* naow hateS ps3 cos no dlc ghay"

Noo, it's not the government. It's the Commies that are fluoridating the water to control our minds. Goddamned Commies.

Nevertheless, I agree with you completely. Y'all, stop whining. GTA III wasn't perfect either, and neither was your beloved broken and f*cking pointless and completely unrealistic SA.

Wow look ive found the 2nd in command of my new religion!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do not record R* saying they are going to make a replica of San Andreas or Vice City. They made a game that has a solid story, amazing graphics and exciting game play. Just because it's not the same as SA doesn't mean R* has taken things out. GTA IV is the best GTA game to date and I'm sure the next GTA will be just as good or even better.

To be honest, I could've lived without The Lost and Damned and just

live with Rockstars down loadable episode. It's causing so much damn

imbalance, seriously, this greedy mentality is f*cking annoying. The

least they could've done was make The Lost and Damned disked but

no, of course not, because they want Playstation 3 owners to get Xbox

360's and then Xbox Live.

I. Seriously. Could've lived without The Lost and Damned.

who the hell is that stupid to buy a whole system and pay for live just for some DLC confused.gif

It's business by Microsoft.

He wanted the definitive version of GTA IV, 360 offers it with the DLC.

The gaming industry is very competitive and as long as technology advances, it will keep on getting more and more competitive.

Xbox San Andreas had a replay camera and mp3 playback added on, so there's rarely been equal versions.

DLC is bad news for consumers no matter how much companies try and put a positive spin on it, consumers will always be losing out. DLC equivalent in the real world is like purchasing a Ferrari only to find out that if you want it painted you gotta pay more. Making a game is no easy task, it requires months of careful planning and project development, milestones and schedules, to simply say that DLC is stuff developers have decided to add on after the game has been made is pure fabrication. Everything in these games is designed well in advance many months before the work is even begun on it.

The DLC stuff is well planned and quite often as in the case with many new games the developers take the easy route of siphoning off parts of the game. For instance theres a game called The Force Unleashed its a Star Wars game, the game itself is rather short and certainly not worth its price tag but whats so incredible about the game is the greed of its makers. This game is aimed at mostly teenagers and kids and surprise surprise the DLC consists of different colored clothes to wear for $5+. We are talking about things as different as simply a different colored ink on the same piece of clothing which you get for free in the game. Before DLC this stuff was expected to be part of the purchased game, but DLC means developers can simply flog this stuff off in virtual markets.

That above case is pretty minor in terms of impact on gameplay, the game is single player and so only nagged parents will be annoyed. There is a growing trend though these days to blackmail players via DLC. It seems to be a thing copied from online MMORPGS with their item shops, what is happening more and more often is games will offer better weapons, abilities so on for a price for players to buy. Often these games have multiplayer and well you can guess what happens when players without the super duper items face off against those that have them. The developers create a situation where players must buy their items or face annihilation online.

Ok granted R* haven't got that far yet but its a worrying development that the path they are taking will most likely lead to that in the future.

Personally, i think it's more like buying a Ferrari (GTAIV) and then paying more to get some extras (DLC) like a racing transmission, racing brakes or whatever the hell Ferrari offers as extras tounge.gif

It may not be like that with all DLC, some do feel like rip-offs, but TLAD doesn't feel like a rip-off to me.

I mean we get a whole new story, new weapons/vehicles, new music, new multiplayer modes...and that's just the stuff we know about.

I'm sure R* has more things up their sleves that they haven't shown us yet.

But that's just my opinion...

It should be. And that use of DLC is perfectly good.

But what sucks is when devs dont complete a game, miss out a load of features etc and then charge people for things that should have been there in the first place.

Sorry for potencially being a complete idiot.. but what is that "TLAD"?

Is it a nother downloadable content that is going to come up?

I think all is relative fine.

Surely I miss several different activities and businesses and possibilities.. but thank god they got rid of unreal stuff like tanks, and rampages.

Ok, they were great fun in these days.. but cmon, I have grown up a bit.

Now the deeper comedy and the more real simulation is blowing my mind.

I really love just driving my car through the streets... but I often miss a occassion for that.. I mean a goal.

In SA for example I could spend days in recieving the money of all my businesses. But here the simulation of driving was not so cool.

As a PC-only-player I am a bit pissed of.. that DLC or may be this somewhat "TLAD" is exclusiv for just one plattform.

In the past I was ever spreading good words for the pc-fraction because of the modding abillity and addons and patches..

..but that point is loosing some weight...

But lastly and again... what is that "TLAD"?...

I agree, charging money for just a couple of new clothes like LucasArt's (or whoever made Force Unleashed) are doing feels stupid and like a rip-off to be honest.

But i don't think that's what R* is doing with TLAD.

I know alot of people think that GTAIV is incomplete because it doesn't have all the features that SA or Vice City had, and that the DLC is just a way of selling all that stuff to us later.

Personally i think it's just a bunch of BS, for two reasons.

1. R* has said all along that IV was going to be different, that it was gonna be darker and more realistic. They've even said that all the crazy stuff like miniguns, parachutes and all that wouldn't be in the game because it wouldn't fit the new direction they were taking the game in.

2. I don't see any evidence that those features are in the DLC. And atleast to me it doesn't feel like we are getting ripped-off, or that they are selling us stuff that should have been in the game in the first place.

To me TLAD feels just like an expansion you usually get for PC games, something that actually expands the story and the world which the game takes place in.

But i understand what you're saying, alot of DLC's feel like complete rip-offs.

But i don't think TLAD is a rip-off, and i'm hoping R* will show everyone else how a real DLC is supposed to look like.

Then explain to me what happened to the MP5,

*snip image*

and the silenced pistol

*snip image*

Don't be surprised if they come back to be sold as downloadable content.

The MP5 was replaced with the MP10, and the silenced pistol will, maybe, be in a future DLC pack. Your point?

Uh, what? He made a great point, and it's pretty self explanatory. Those images were released prior to launch so users can form favorable opinions about the game. These screenshots were meant to entice and hype consumers, and to offer a sneak peek as to what they can expect in the game. Ultimately, what did we all come to find out? The images were misleading.

Why remove the silenced pistol? Why remove fingerless gloves? Hell, for that matter, why remove any features that allow for more user customization, especially when it was already implied in pre-release screenshots? I guess you could blame the victim for getting overhyped or expecting too much, but there's no way to shake the feeling of getting robbed.

The hype machine is surely subjective, but how can anyone honestly blame the consumer? Rockstar spoke little of what was in the game and deliberately forced its customers to make presumptions. That's bullsh*t; I mean, not one game play video before release? What the f*ck? We got them for GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas, why not IV? It's not fair and is why a lot of gamers felt cheated - myself included.

From what I gather, the DLC won't fix the problems I have with the game. Frankly, I'm not surprised I'm disappointed. BUT, if the DLC blows all of us away by means of more things to do, more customization, and more diverse mission structures, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. I'm not holding my breath though.

The MP5 is not gone it was replaced by the MP10, The MP10 is just an MP5 with a different exterior.

There were multiple gameplay videos that were official and hundreds of leaked videos so we definitely got a good look at the game before it came out.

If you opened your eyes you would see GTA 4 is a pretty good game. It is the equvilent of GTA 3 because it was built from the ground up using a new engine. All that time they could have spent adding to the game was interupted by the fact that they had to completely rebuild the GTA series from nothing so it could fit in with all of the other next gen games. GTA 4 does seem lacking in many areas but it is a great taste of what is to come. GTA will never return to everything it once was but hopefuly it will become equally great in a different way.

Rockstar never, EVER, released an official game play video of GTAIV - I'm not talking about the trailers. And I never said I didn't enjoy GTAIV for what it was; I simply stated that Rockstar misrepresented the content within their game.

I agree, man.

Like in trailer three, they showed Niko walking past a burning building to make the game more dramatic than it really was. This was a one time only thing though ( Roman's Sorrow ), all they did was got Niko out the car, switched to a shot gun and let him walk past the burning building in slow motion.

I'm not saying screw Rockstar for this. I actually think it was smart business wise, but personally that's misleading and fake as hell.

I can't believe how many people here don't believe that Rockstar released an incomplete game so they could make more money off it with DLC.It makes absolutely perfect business sense to do that. They knew that they could release an empty game and as long as it was branded GTA IV, it would sell millions upon millions of units. With DLC they've got a way to make extra money off all the features they left out. DLC is really screwing the consumer. Developers now release games missing tons of sh*t then make you pay extra for it through DLC. I don't plan on buying DLC for any game, especially not GTA IV.

Dude get over it. It's a whole new game for only $20 USD. If you ask me that's a steal. And how was GTA an incomplete story? It's a story with a few hints here and there..

I could almost go as far as saying Microsoft ruined GTA4 (for not having a better disc media that holds more data and paying for exclusive DLC) Ugh I just want to suicidal.gif

Oh sh*t, here we go again. Another PS3 fanboy bashing the 360's media...

Take a good look inside the PC's files and you can see tons of things that have been taken out and some that were incomplete, you may change your view then.

Killfrenzies, remember them? There was some of form of Golf (not really gutted about that one rolleyes.gif ) and table tennis too. Looks like some big boats from either missions or just as moving scenery objects. lot's of sh*t in their has had it's functionality removed for either DLC or couldn't fit on the Xbox's disk so had to go.

Thanks a bunch Microsoft you shower of pricks, for f*cking up my favourite game.

You should thank MS, because if it wasn`t for that $50m R* would`ve been taken over by EA. Then GTA4 would have sucked big time.

I`m sorry PS3 users didn`t get the DLC, and I only got an xbox because the controller feels better. But remember, the contract is only for exclusive downloadable content, I haven`t heard anyone say these episodes cant be made available for the PS3 on disk.
