Foliage
Not before San Andreas was released. It can be a list, if you can't decide on one. SmellyJelly
Armed Assault probably: http://armed-assault.de/screenshots/sahrani-map_1_1693.jpg http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/2632/vi...stance09vz0.jpg I've also heard that the Fallout 3 map is really big, though I haven't played it yet, so I can't be sure. Foliage
Can you wander the whole map (Armed Assault) as you please? I hate games where you're always on a mission. Ah, nevermind, it's only for the PC. I can't play games on my PC. SmellyJelly
Yeah, you can. It's all streamed so there is only one initial loading time. The game's not like GTA, though, because the map is empty of all life and you have to place the people yourself. Or, if you choose, there are many premade missions that comes with the game or are easily downloaded off the internet. Damo.
Edited the topic title because it looked very messy. Anyway, I'd say the biggest (offline) map I've played is either Morrowind, Oblivion or Fallout 3. Bethesda like their maps big. Well, there's Just Cause too, but I won't include it because there's f*ck-all besides jungle on it. No interiors or anything. Dallasa
Just Cause has a pretty damn huge map. Yeah, I was just about to mention The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as a possible candidate. I've heard World of Warcraft's map is ever-expanding. Is this true? If so, this could theoretically have the biggest map. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/387035-biggest-videogame-map/#findComment-1058802487 Share on other sites

Most of the missions are confined to a small area, though there are others that include the whole map, (those usually involve taking over the cities online). With the mission editor, though, you can place your character anywhere and set the weather, date, ect, with no limitations. However, since it's a mission editor, you're given the 'template', or simply just the map. You'll need to place the enemies, allies and civilians yourself if you want any life. Foliage
It'd be nice if someone could calculate the size of all these different game's maps. Then compare them against each other. But, I'd assume it's not easy. I'd like if the next GTA had an even bigger map than San Andreas, with countryside, cities and towns again. But, that's a little off-topic. Adam Jensen
Just Cause is enormous. Too bad you can't do much in all that world. But stunts are pretty amazing. Base jumping, hanging from the wing of a plane 10,000 feet in the air and jumping down. Jumping from hills, car roofs, huge mountains. Yeah, it can be pretty fun if you try Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/387035-biggest-videogame-map/#findComment-1058802719 Share on other sites

GTA3Freak-2001
Test Drive Unlimited's map. It HUGE. PIC For a racing game it doesnt seem to have many roads. Look at those blank spaces.. Its got heaps trust me, its mostly confined to the city areas you just can't make out the individual roads because the map is so huge. It takes about 30 or 40 minutes to travel right around the island's outer roads and that's in a super-car going full pelt! WelcomeToLibertyCity
San Andreas used to be the biggest map. It's still probably my favorite map but not the biggest anymore. Oblivion has the hugest map I've ever seen. I couldn't believe it when I had the game. Also, Saints Row 2 has a pretty big map. Warplay3r
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Much detail in all of the place, and a huuuuugeee map! Mike Tequeli
Oblivion is not that big. It seemed big because nothing went any faster then 30 km/h but it's smaller then SA. It only has about 41 square kilometers. True Crime was 250 Square miles. And to whoever said World of Warcraft is ever expanding, no it isn't. But The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall from 1996 destroys all other games in this silly little competition at a whopping 161,600 square kilometers. Yeah the map itself is huge but the drivable area is not. Sure you can go offroad and run through the trees, but it's not really fun at all. The rest of the time you can't get off the road at all. I'd have to say either Just Cause (although sh*tty) or Oblivion. JLSoryu
And to whoever said World of Warcraft is ever expanding, no it isn't. Are you sure? Perhaps not expanding with every update, but each expansion gives you more to explore. When it was released you only had parts of the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor to explore, then Burning Crusade added Outland which was 7 more zones for you to explore and Lich King has just added Northrend which is another continent to the North of Azeroth with about 9 zones for you to explore, so yes World Of Warcrafts map has expanded. If you're just going by the boundries of the map then it's only major addition was Outland because of it not being on Azeroth so it's expanded that way but in terms of places to explore and things to do then it's definately 'ever expanding' I'd probably say Fallout 3 as that seems huge, and definately throw WoW Edited December 24, 2008 by gta_king Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/387035-biggest-videogame-map/#findComment-1058804428 Share on other sites
