Mirror's Edge was released October 2008 made by EA and DICE. First impressions of the game were very good at E3. The Demo was released recently with the training level and the prolouge for the players to experience. You were jumped straight into the game with the fast movment and amazing visuals. Here is some basic information about the game Mirrors Edge.

Plot

 

Faith's sister, Kate, has been accused of assassinating the city's mayor candidate Robert Pope. It's up to Faith to try to clear her name by getting information about Project Icarus.

Gameplay

 

STYLE:

Mirror's Edge is a shooter based on movement, although senior producer Owen O'Brien refuses to call it a shooter. Instead of blasting your enemies to bits with the most ammunition your gun you can find, you will need to find ways to avoid them. Inspired by parkour, it is a game where you will be able to run, jump, slide, roll and climb. You control a character named Faith, running through urban areas of a futuristic metropolis with tight security. There is no doubt that you'll need to utilize all your movement and some cunning intellect to escape from the armed forces that control the law. But still the game includes weaponry and firearms, even if they have been taken out of focus. Your goal is to survive, not necessarily to kill every single enemy, however, if Merc says otherwise, then melee is mandatory

 

 

MOVEMENT:

In Mirror's Edge, you will be an outlaw, a courier trying to use the rooftops as a safe path through a utopian society. With heavily armed police controlling the streets and Internet and phone-traffic being monitored, the only way to pass on messages in secret is to let a runner deliver it in person. That's who you are, a Runner. The game will incorporate movements similar to those in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and less like the movements in a typical first-person shooter, such as Half-Life 2. You will be redeeming your sister's name after being accused of assassinating Robert Pope, the mayor candidate for the city.

 

GAME MODES:

The game is not non-linear, but will be open enough to allow some freedom. There will be multiple ways of dealing with each level, from the routes that can be taken to the combat style that you adopt.

 

There will be more than one game mode, one for the main single player campaign, a time trial mode which will be combined with online leaderboards to face race against other player's times and studying their routes to learn new ones. In the single player campaign, the Story mode, Faith will be the only character to play as. Another time trial-like mode is the Speedrun mode, where players have to complete a chapter from the Story Mode. This, too, has a leaderboard for it.

Weaponry

 

 

RIFLES:

 

FN SCAR

The FN SCAR is the latest generation Battle Rifle, which is interesting because in recent years the development has been in Assault Rifles firing smaller intermediate cartridges. The FN SCAR H fires the 7.62x51mm round that is used in many western military sniper rifles. It is also very possible it is the FN SCAR L which fires the smaller 5.56x45mm round. This appears to be the rifle used in Mirrors Edge when Faith prevents the soldier from shooting her with it, this is very noticeable with in the buttstock area.

 

 

H&K G36C

The G36C is a carbine chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. It is used by militaries and police forces around the world so its not surprising to see it being used by the police in Mirror's Edge.

 

 

 

SNIPER RIFLES:

 

Barett M95

The M95 is a bullpup bolt-action sniper rifle chambered in 12.7x99mm NATO (often known as .50 caliber). It is a very high powered rifle capable of penetrating light vehicle armour .

 

 

 

SHOTGUNS:

 

Benelli M3 Super 90

The Benelli M3 is an interesting weapon, it is in many ways an evolution of the Franchi SPAS-12 with the ability to fire both in Pump Action and Semi Automatic. This appears to be the shotgun used in Mirrors Edge when Faith kicks it out of the soldiers hands and cracks him in the head with it.

 

 

Neostead 2000

The NS2000 is a 12-gauge pump action shotgun. It is bullpup in design and has two separate 6 shell magazines. It can also fire less-lethal baton rounds in lieu of 12-gauge buckshot or slugs.

 

 

 

SUB MACHINEGUNS:

 

B&T MP9

The MP9 is a submachine gun chambered in 9mmx19 Para. It is highly compact and very controllable in full auto fire. The design was owned by Steyr-Mannlicher of Austria but was sold to Brugger and Thomet of Switzerland in 2001.

 

 

PISTOLS:

 

Beretta 92

The Beretta 92 has been adopted by the United States military as the standard 9mm sidearm. It is generally considered a reliable handgun. This appears to be used in Mirrors Edge when faith leaps off the edge and is firing at the soldier.

 

 

Glock 18

The Glock 18 is produced by the Austrian Company "Glock" the Model 18 is a select fire pistol (which means it can fire in full automatic fire or in semi automatic fire) that when in full automatic mode it can fire with a blisteringly fast cyclic fire rate of 1100 - 1200 rounds per minute. Because of this fire rate it is available with an extended magazine of 33 rounds compared with the standard 17 round magazine that most Glock 17's (the non select fire counter part of the Glock 18) in 9mm ship with when laws restrict the availability of High Capacity magazines.

Multiplayer: Race

 

Time Trials is the multiplayer in Mirror's Edge, which was the multiplayer component DICE confirmed, revealed on November 6, 2008. Players will have to compete for the best time to beat other Leaderboard times. There is no Offline Multiplayer as of the first release, besides the recent update of allowing Silver users to play Time Trial and Speedrun.

 

In Speedrun, players have to race against the target time for a chosen chapter from the Story Mode of the game. Speedrun isn't available from start, and to unlock it, you have to finish Story Mode on any difficulty.
