just wondering how many people this worked for.

EDIT:

sorry about not posting the original thread.

here is the original "tweak" thread

EDIT 2:

i got thinking, for me this dosent do to much of a difference, for my freind it does, the HUGE difference between his rig and mine are the CPU's, it is no secret that this is a CPU intensive game, i have a dual core he has a quadcore, it hink the reason i dont get much of a difference with this is because my CPU is at max with the settings i currently have, his on the other hand benefits from this, which brings me to my next question.

QUESTION for those who this hasn't worked for. what CPU are you using? as i have sed i have a dual core OC'd to 3.4Ghz and i don't benefit much from this.

Yes it worked for me, now i play with all max settings, including view distance to 100, at 1680 x 1050, and no pop up / disappearing textures, errors or any other issues - tested for 11 hours of gameplay so far. Im using as multiplier 1.5 .

The people complaining it didn't work have so far proved to be using XP or don't know what they are talking about.

OP, u must edit your first post for more details on the tweak.

make ppl that only read this post know what teak it is and even try it for themselves so they can come back to this thread and post their vote.

i think i know what tweak u r talking about but even IM not sure.

what does this tweak do?

to whom is it for? (ppl with XP or vista? ppl with 2gb ram or 4gb ram?)

how do u make it work? (commandline.txt option? 3rd party software?)

what should be the results?

details, please.

I'm too tired to be diggin it up myself, but I assume it's a command line tweak where:

Something like "-availablevidmem 2.0 -noprecache"

If-so, then yep. No performance increase (due to it being a sh*t engine), but the scenery is almost always displayed now.

If you are using XP don't bother trying it, it's a vista tweak only as Vista can allow the system ram to be used as vram.

yeah I am with DML on this one (we do agree sometimes tounge.gif ) I haven't seen any fps boost but then I am ok with the 30 - 40fps I was already getting. But using the availablevidmem flag did remove any popup I was experiencing, like all tools it can be useful if used in moderation and is damn useful to those of us that were cheapskates and only bought the 320mb 8800gts and not the 640mb 8800gts (knew that would come back to bite me on the arse one day).

I'm using XP and it made a significant difference here. No more mysterious low-res road overlays, and buildings and scenery don't disappear anywhere near (almost never) as often as they did before.

I wish I could've gotten the 640 also, but some strange force around June last year caused all the stores to have that version (of all brands) just disappear from the shelves and stocklists. Bloody idiots.

I've found that setting it to 2.0 on my 9600GT and keeping textures on medium, allows me to set the view distance to 100 and only requires an extra 180mb of vram... So I could easily set it to 1.5.

It's eliminated pop ups, and improved the game experience no end for me.

I still get random glitches... but this is a driver/game issue and I had them before the tweak and I still get them after. Hopefully the next patch of decent driver release from nvidia will cure that.

i'm uisng vista,it works but game crawls, how do i fix this

you could be out of system ram and then it will use the paging file which will slow you game down alot.

but yes, this tweak worked wonders for me!

Using XP, works here...

That is not possible. It would have to be something else that made it work because the multiplier (gpu mem swapping) is not supported by that OS
