Disappointed with performance

I looked forward to the patch. I have a Quad Core 9450 running at 3ghz (*4), and 4gb RAM running at nearly 1200mhz. Raptor 10,000 RPM hard drive, 8800GTX gfx card with 768mb VRAM and a high spec Asus motherboard. It's a good rig. I don't tell you about this to brag about my h/w, there are many here with much better but I suspect 80% plus with a lesser spec than this, if not higher.

 

From the outset, this game has been slow and jerky and frankly unplayable. I have tinkered with the settings, but even at low/low with small numbers on detail and vehicle density etc, it is just unplayable. And boy, those shadows are AWFUL.

 

So when this 1.1 patch was released, I could not wait to install it and reap the benefit, but there is none. So maybe this patch wasn't released to improve performance but to increase stability instead? My game crashes consistantly, the first time within a minute of firing up the 1.1 patch-laden game. It's just not acceptable.

 

I run this under Vista Ultimate 32 bit, and XP3 (ok, so XP only sees 3gb but that should be enough) . My XP drive is games only, it doesnt even have an antivirus installed and is very clean (required service only). I can run Crysis, UT and many more on full detail and they play brilliantly. GTA4 just doesn't deliver.

 

I have an XBOX 360, but held off buying it on that platform as the PC must surely be better, my hardware is much better afterall. But no, its sh*t.

 

Come on Rockstar, please do something to make this game run better. Please. Pretty please with cherries on top.

 

I would like other readers of this forum to post their own experience of this latest patch, along with basic specs if possible. R* had previously commented that maybe 1% of ppl were having issues, I think even they don't believe that nonsense anymore, but if we can all show them how our pc's are better than specced than the XBOX but we cannot play the game, it may help. But probably it won't ...

man its a pain in the ass aint it!! i had all these probs with it on pc..but got a xbox 360 the other day and bought gta 4 for it lol it works great no problems what so ever..ppl say it runs slow/crappy graphics on the 360 ect but there wrong ...pc has better graphics with a decent card but it sure dont run as smooth as the 360 even with a high spec comp..

 

anyways just wait for a patch man they might sort summin out but dont think there patch will improve performance ect..
