GuruAskew, you seem so sure of yourself you must have a copy of the contract, yes?

We don't know how exclusive this exclusivity deal is. Microsoft paid $50 million for an exclusivity deal and as an advance for the development. It could be $50 million that Rockstar themselves would have spent on content for all 3 platforms had Microsoft not come along. It's just an advance that Rockstar will be paying back to Microsoft. Much in the way that bands/musicians pay back record labels with the money that they make from album sales.

Rockstar most likely still owns the rights to the content and as such they can do whatever they please with it once any exclusivity deals expire. Nobody other than a handful of employees at Rockstar and Microsoft and probably some indepentant law firm knows the extent of the exclusivity and this deal.

Well, people have been unlocking stuff from TLD if you checked the IV modding discussion, basically. The bikes were already in the game and made, so MS got f*cked over once again

You didn't even read the topic, did you, Indi? They were beta versions of the bikes, and you act as though the bikes are the only content in the DLC. Hell, those weren't even all the bikes.

Not to mention the fact that the PC version still runs on a Microsoft product (two, actually; GFWL, and Vista/XP/whatever (in most cases)), so if when it gets released for the PC version as well, they'll still be making a profit. I fail to see how they were "f*cked over."

I think it's very likely it will come to PC. MS will want to make their money back, so it'll end up on PC a few months later after the 2nd dlc comes out.

as far as i know MS didnt pay $50 million for an exclusivity deal they paid $50 million for the content to be made.

Basically the $50 Million that MS paid will have funded the DLC, because if you think about it why would R* put so much effort into making the 2 DLC packages if it isnt gonna make them any money, because DLC is bought via MS points/ Sony Wallet, which means that people would pay $25 to have the sufficient amount added to there account (none of this money would have gone to R* because they have nothing at all to do with the wallet/MS points) and then people download it using the said amount, R* will get some royalties from this but nothing compared to what MS paid so the only way that R* could make any real money out of the 2 packages was if it was released via hardcopy. So MS paid the $50 Million to fund and cover the costs of having the 2 packages made into DLC. Now what ive just said i have no evidence to back that up but im betting the majority of what ive said is correct

and another thing how can you say that guruaskew seems so sure of himself and that he must have a copy of the contract. i was gonna ask you the same question before i even made it to post im quoting. you seem so damn sure that MS paid $50 million for an exclusivity deal you must also own a copy yourself.

GuruAskew, you seem so sure of yourself you must have a copy of the contract, yes?

It's hard to not be sure of yourself when you're dealing with an amount of money this big. I don't think anyone has ever paid $50 million for a full game to be exclusive, let alone DLC. Furthermore, I'll be playing "The Lost and Damned" on Xbox 360 in 55 days. Not so much as a pair of feetie pajamas for your Home character has been announced for PS3. That really speaks for itself.

We don't know how exclusive this exclusivity deal is. Microsoft paid $50 million for an exclusivity deal and as an advance for the development. It could be $50 million that Rockstar themselves would have spent on content for all 3 platforms had Microsoft not come along.

Could be, but the fact of the matter is this: we live in a world where Microsoft DID pay Rockstar $50 million for exclusive access to this content. Maybe there's some sort of alternate universe where Sony made the deal but in this one Microsoft did and that's why it's not gonna be on the PS3.

It's just an advance that Rockstar will be paying back to Microsoft.

Um, no. It's not an advance. It's a $50 million deal giving Microsoft exclusive access to the content. An advance is like a down-payment. Back on the subject of being "sure of yourself", I have the official announcement of the exclusivity to back my side up. All the PS3 owners have are ignorance and wishful thinking.

Rockstar most likely still owns the rights to the content and as such they can do whatever they please with it once any exclusivity deals expire. Nobody other than a handful of employees at Rockstar and Microsoft and probably some indepentant law firm knows the extent of the exclusivity and this deal.

and Microsoft could have given them a contract that expires in 10, 20, or 100 years, or they could give them a contract that doesn't ever expire (this is actually possible, sorry to break it to the PS3 nation) or they could have even signed a deal that gives them part ownership.

There are a lot of unknowns since nobody has the contract outside of Rockstar and Microsoft (and that includes Sony, they don't know any more than we do) but the fact that there was $50 million on the table pretty much trumps everything. Again, you can rest assured that Microsoft locked the content up tight for that amount of money. I mean, otherwise, what did Microsoft pay for? Unprecedented $ = unprecedented control. It's as simple as that.

That's all it comes down to: Microsoft paid Rockstar an amount of money that is literally unheard of with DLC. If PS3 owners can't accept the reality of that situation then fine, they'll be posting online about how they have faith that Sony will get the content regardless of how everything suggests otherwise and those of us with 360s will be playing the games.

Your delusion will only take you so far and one day years down the road you'll realize that it was never coming and that you could have played these DLC episodes if you'd only accepted the truth and got a 360.

If you have any doubts about the exclusivity of the DLC, please see Take Two's annual report (all the Rockstars out there are direct subsidiaries and won't be filing reports so this is as official as it gets). It states the only platform the DLC will be released on in the fiscal year 2009 (which will end Oct 31st, 2009) is the XBox 360.

Now, if the 2009 annual report states other platforms, then maybe it will be released sometime afterward, if the market interest is there. If the deal between MS and Rockstar was for more than one DLC, I know I'd pay $50 mil for six months each.

The Six month exclusivity Sony had on the previous trilogy added up to a year and a half, and Sony probably received $50 mil in console sales from GTA3 and Vice City bundles alone.

It is amazing how many people turn out to be experts in contract law, and know exactly what is going to happen without having read the contracts, while others think Microsoft are stupid enough to pay $50m for content which Rockstar can simply release onto another console if the publishers beg enough. Fantastic stuff.

haha i just wanna know how pissed you would be if it does go to ps3. seriously how pissed would you be though after all this talk and self assurance you have.

Anyway i think it is unlikely that you ps3 owners will get this dlc, but its not impossible. Everyone just needs to quit the bickering and we'll all see what happens in the next year.

Happy holidays to everyone and have a great new year.

i said "other"... though i really think not, but i guess you never know. PC seems a little more likely to me, but I don't think PS3 will ever have it. I could see PS4 or whatever maybe getting it years down the road on whatever their equivalent of Xbox Live Arcade/Wii Shop Channel is called (much like you can get old console exclusive games like Ecco the Dolphin or Sonic)... but I don't see PS3 ever getting it unless Sony decides to pay microsoft an assload of money, which i really don't think they ever would.

It's funny how some XBox 360 owners are loving this whole idea that they've "one upped" PS3 owners. Sh*t I own a PS3 and a 360 so it really means nothing to me, but PS3 only owners have a legitimate reason for being upset and angry, this is hard earned cash they're spending on a game they love only to find out that because they might have made the "wrong decision" they wont get the full experience? Good business move by Microsoft, but messed up for the Hardcore GTA fan.

Let the PS3 fans be angry, the deserve to... it's the Xbox 360 fanboys who seem like they're enjoying the PS3 fans suffer that amuse me... it's like there's nothing else better going on in your real life that the only way to stroke your egos is in a virtual forum.

I don't have problems with the people who are upset about the whole thing and I don't have problems with the people who have accepted the fact that they're either going to have to buy a 360 to play this content or they just won't play it at all, even if they are upset about it.

I have a problem with the people who are in full-blown denial mode over the reality of the situation. It's when you start posting about how you think Sony has access to the content in spite of an unprecedented $50 million deal that it gets aggravating.

I never played the "Stories" games because I've never owned a PSP and I'd given my PS2 to my sister by the time they were released that way but I've accepted that it's not coming to the Xbox or the 360.

Imagine if I was constantly online posting about my belief that those games were eventually coming to the 360 in spite of a complete and utter lack of evidence to support it. I know that would be annoying, and that's without a $50 million deal to factor into the equation.

Microsoft did this to deprive PS3 owners of this content, thus forcing them to get it on the 360. That's the whole point. You don't have to like it but you have to accept it.

And I don't enjoy the fact that PS3 people won't be able to get the DLC btw. Though being the hardcore GTA fan I am... I knew from the day GTAIV was announced almost two years ago that there would be exclusive 360 content. At the time I was actually a PS2 fanboy and kinda ticked off, so I understand that. But with there being a year between then and the release of IV I had time to make a decision of 360 or PS3. The DLC factored in, as well as the price, available titles, and the seemingly unanimous opinion of the formerly PS2 enamored industry that the 360 was the better system and that Sony had f*cked up. So I bought the 360. My point is I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore MGS fan, then buy the 360, then go on to a MGS forum and pout that I couldn't get MGS4 on my 360. I mean it would be nice if all titles were available on all consoles, but they're not, and you have to make an educated buy based on what will be best for you.

How so? The DLC was announced 8 seconds (give or take) after GTA IV was announced, and well before PS3 was released.

I still reckon the PS3, and PC will get some sort of DLC, but not the DLC the 360 is getting obviously.

I bought my PS3 even though I knew the DLC would be exclusive to the 360 version of GTA IV.

I would never by an xbox just to have the Downloadable content. You'd have to be a real low life to do that. Yes, buying a 360 because you want the best of both worlds is fair enough, but just for Gta IV content? Get a grip

For what I must buy a console? 3-4 new vehicles, 2-3 new weapons, some missions, 2-3 MP modes (with autoaiming of course) and that's all? Bullsh*t. Radio stations PC gamers will put into Independence FM.

If DLC will be on PC, I'll buy it but don't want to buy a console because of it.

Well it's at least 8 new vehicles confirmed so far... but I get what you're saying. What I was saying before was more referencing the fact that part of the reason I bought a 360 and not a PS3 in the first place was because i wanted to be able to get the DLC. Fact is GTA is the only reason I bothered buying a PS2 6 years ago or the 360 last year... I mean I have other games, but if there was no GTA I wouldnt have really felt the need to own a console. That said I understand if you didn't buy a 360 for GTAIV it seems stupid to buy it just for the DLC.

I've posted this view-point before, but by the time the second DLC pack is released, which at this point is 18 months minimum, if R* were still working on supporting a game that old, I'd be mightily aggrieved as an owner of any of the platforms that they weren't moving on to the next installment proper.

How many 2-year-old games still get regular, mainstream play offline and on? Not that many I'd wager and certainly ones that haven't split the community the way this game has. For that reason it would seem rather silly for R* to be working on more Liberty DLC after 18 months.

Hardcore GTA fans had the choice when this game and DLC was announced in 2006 and when the PS3 was still in development to go the 360 route, so your point is not a valid one. A hardcore GTA fan would surely want to play all the GTA and would know the facts of where ALL the official GTA gameplay is going to be.
