M_Nation
Why does everyone complain about bad FPS?! My PC doesn't even completely meet the recommended requirements and i can play it almost fine, i get about 15 - 25 FPS (depending on the area) and it's not the best but it's playable Graphical settings Resolution: 1024 768 (75 Hz) Textures: Medium Rendering: Medium View distance: 15 Detail distance: Max Vehicle Density: Max Shadow depth: Max System Specs: Intel Pentium D 3.5 Ghz 1.5 GB RAM (533 Mhz) Radeon 3870 512MB on board sound XP SP3 those aren't astounding PC specs... M_Nation
Because even people with fairly powerful rigs are lucky if they get even double the FPS of your low-spec system? Well by the end of the holidays my PC will be more than 2x as powerful as it is now AMD Phenom x4 9600 4 GB RAM (800 Mhz Dual channel) PCI 2.0 slots (over the x16 i have now) Radeon 3870 x2 (Crossfire) Vista Home Premium x64 so if i'm still having problems then i'll bitch about it.. but still.. there seems to be a little too much bitching about this game

ThatsCool
That GTA IV is so bad optimized is because of rockstar toronto they never before ported a 3D GTA no wonder Why Rockstar North not ported this? Then the game would be much better optimized but no..... Im waiting for Saints Row 2. I think it will be a better game
Dillyracer
People tend to forget how sh*tty some of the R* North ports were. I have -after a simple overclock- no problems with the game out of the box what so ever, just like my friend. Pretty weird it's so different from system to system. It's a great game with a much better storyline than the previous GTA's.

LSD T
Trouble is console driven game development will aways dilute the games overall feel, that's what has been pretty much the bane of all PC games the past year, greedy publishers scamming the easily pleased herd, dumbing down everything. Much like all fields in life the lowest common denominator dictates the markets drive. GTAIV is half the game that San Andreas was, mainly because of the modding community, but that game had depth and a real sense of purpose, this new one is mainly about achieving the GFW nonsense, quite souless in comparison, most disapointed that the PC iteration was designed without the PC gamer in mind whatsoever, locking down the game to prevent modding FFS. DML
...mainly because of the modding community... I will say this on mods: If it wasn't for all this f*cking Microsoft Live achievement crap, they would not have had to lock down the modification of the game so much. I always like to add 50 tonnes of lead to the Patriot, double its speed, lower it, up the traction, increase the handling, and make it totally invulnerable. Some obstacles got in the way of me doing that with GTA IV, but I got it done eventually.
Rotel
All you have to do to stop pirates (well, the ones that can afford it anyhow) is: Make a good game. It's really, that easy. Absolutely spot on! Of course...
LSD T
All you have to do to stop pirates (well, the ones that can afford it anyhow) is: Make a good game. It's really, that easy. Absolutely spot on! Of course... one thing that really jumped out at me was his estimate that preventing 1000 piracy attempts results in only a single additional sale. this supports our intuitive assessment that people who pirate our game aren’t people who would have purchased it had they not been able to get it without paying. I purchased that game precisely 1 hour after installation (took only 1 min to install, no serial key, no DRM, just pure unadulterated fun) after being handed a dodgy copy of World of Goo at work. What a truly fantastic example of what a real computer game can be like when it's designed by true lovers of the art, not some greedy soulless publisher requiring X units to be sold in sector Z then untie the designers hands and eventually and begrudgingly allow them to pursue the programmers actual dream. x8681150
this is what they hat to say before http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=34331 Rockstar GTA IV PC technical problems interview IGN have interviewed Rockstar about the technical problems plaguing GTA IV PC. Rockstar say they're continually working on improvements and are working on a patch right now. Rockstar say however that a lot of problems people are reporting are down to out of date drivers. I know that Nvidia and ATI are constantly…I think they're releasing new drivers pretty soon. (ATI drivers are coming next Wednesday, according to Rockstar. Nvidia drivers are up now) quote: IGN: Can you talk about what you're working on right now, like a patch? Kevin Hoare: We've never stopped working on the game, we're working on it every day. We haven't had the typical break after it's gone gold. We're continually working on improvements, we're working on a patch right now. IGN: Can you say what the patch will address and what sort of timetable there might be? Kevin Hoare: We've done some improvements to the video editor and the rendering engine for the replay editor. We've added, again from feedback from the forums, we initially didn't support direct-input controller devices and people seemed to want that, so we added support for direct-input devices. I think there was an issue with bowling… Arthur Chiang: We read that some people with sensitive mice were having trouble with the bowling mini-game so we looked into that more and we've got a fix for that. There's a bunch of little UI tweaks because we've come a long way in our video editing prowess and we've been slowly increasing the user functionality to make things easier for what we want to do with it. Jeronimo Barrera: Let's not beat around the bush here. There's a lot of noise like this game doesn't run at all or there's missing textures and everything else. From what we've gathered a lot of those problems are either out of date drivers or we don't support that type of card or you're underspecced or whatever, it's always a combination of one of those things, it's not necessarily that we don't know what we're doing because obviously we put in hundreds and hundreds of hours of test into this. From what we did and from going through certification with Microsoft and our external QA process we didn't run into the amount of problems that the boards seemed to be saying there are. I know that Nvidia and ATI are constantly…I think they're releasing new drivers pretty soon. (ATI drivers are coming next Wednesday, according to Rockstar. Nvidia drivers are up now) Obviously when you start talking about high-end PC games people want to tweak with their drivers and everything else and we've found some situations where people have modified their drivers by going to sites where you can customize drivers, and we've found problems with that. We're seeing some of the things that people are complaining about but they're so peripheral of the target audience.

My PC doesn't even completely meet the recommended requirements and i can play it almost fine, i get about 15 - 25 FPS (depending on the area) and it's not the best but it's playable I don't see why people are having such an issue.. Because people like me, who've been gaming and looking after their PCs for 20 years or more, have, in this day and age, come to expect better than 20-ish fps from a game, and consider "playable" frame-rates to be in the 40+ range. This has been a reasonable expectation for over 10 years now, and no game, (and I do mean no game) has ever left me with the feeling that they (R*) simply didn't do their job right, as this game does. FireItUp
I've got nothing but good things to say about this game. It rocks. The pc sales are contributed to the fact the console version was out 6 months ago and i'm sure most people that bought it and completed it are not about to buy the pc version. LSD T
If your PC's are crappy dont blame the game. I bought it on PC and im not complaining! (even though its not perfect on mine) What if people's PCs are extremely powerful, and exceed the recommended specs by miles and their OSs are sprightly light and zippy, yet still see sh*t framerates...do we mere serfs have your omnipotent powerful permission to perhaps query the justice in all this? Awaiting your highly considered response oh mighty master.

LSD T
http://news.bigdownload.com/photos/big-dow...awards/1217592/ That, that, that... why that's just crazy, because so many respected articulate and intelligent posters here are saying SHUT THE f*ckZ UP YOUR PCS ARE sh*t AND ITS NOT SUPAROCKSTARS FAULT YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUZE SYZTEMSZZ AND ALL DAT YEAH and other wonderfully reasoned responses indicating the cause of all this poor performance is our ill educated fault. I just don't know who to trust anymore. "I'LL BUY EVERY GODDAMN ROCKSTAR GAME THEY RELEASE EVER" is a particularly refreshingly stupid one I see on here, for the very way it extols the virtues of nothing whatsoever yet slavishly declares its loyalty to a soulless company interested in only fleecing them of their hard earned money. Cyc2u
I am curious about something. We all know R*North has put out fairly good quality ports in the past. Namely 3, VC and SA. Now R*Toronto is handed the wheel, and puts out a sloppy 4. I wonder, is R*North backing them up or do you think R*Toronto is in deep poopies? Did R*North supply them with the codes and Toronto messed them up, or did R*North hand them codes that couldnt be worked out properly? Id like to know the "behind the scenes" of Rockstar North. There's not enough money to made in PC gaming (Compared to their 360/PS3 releases). So they probably don't even care enough about the PC port to want it done properly. They gave it to Toronto so they could start working on GTA IV: Vice City. The quality of the port (also known as "standards") wasn't a concern. Simple as that. If all this does is support the insane theory that perhaps a little more than a tad over 1% are having problems then it would mean there are an awful lot of dishonest lying c*nts out there and here that have been insisting the game runs flawlessly for 99% of people, then frankly I want no part of your trickster behaviour.
