[Rel/IV] Dashboard Camera

Hey,

 

I spended the last few days doing this (hoping no one did it before)

 

 

It's for ALL vehicles (even Police/FBI/Enforcer/Prison Enforcer/Police Maverick/Predator) and allow you to have a Dashboard View

 

I must say that you might (after a crash) spot Niko's head but this is as good as i can do (because of niko's movement) without seing him moving while braking or turning and keeping the dashboard visible

 

Also , bikes view aren't perfect because of Niko's movement (but they are ok)

 

BTW it's final, i won't rework them (i did that waiting for the unlocking of the game for REAL modding (atleast for me...waiting for map modding and car modding (i dream to try my work in the game)

Edit: modified a bit readme to be sure no one forget about patching for modding abilities (it won't work without ,obviously )

Borocay : Honestly, at that point, i don't know, i'll take a look but except using the same camera i used (hood/trunk camera) i don't know if you can "fix" the camera

 

I'll still take a look for that (maybe FOV is the answer...this is the only parameter i'm unsure about)

 

Anach : I take a look for a file but i doubt (because of the way niko move and also because from what i've seen, there isn't a file about player camera)

 

AVVvU : Unfortunately, you're right...(and it's too bad, especially for helicopter ) but i'm modder for Mafia and a friend of mine was able to do a speedometer for the dash view in that game, let's hope that some modder will be able to do the same here )

I'll try to make a little vid but i don't promise anything about that (it'll depend the result i rarely use the video editor)

I quickly take a look for the camera (player and behind the car) and i'll try to do the video...

AVVvU :video added (several different vehicle) ,it's poor quality but it's because of youtube (it's always youtube )

 

Anach: Apparently, it's not possible (probably coded in the EXE like the "normal" car camera)

 

Borocay: the only way (from what i saw) is to replace the camera i've modified (the cam follow properly), basically, you change the line

 

VEHICLE xxxxxx FIELD BONNET_FWD POS -0.250000 -0.450000 1.200000 ANGLES -0.000000 0.000000 -0.000000 FOV 55.000000

 

to something like

 

VEHICLE xxxxxx FIELD BONNET_FWD POS -0.000000 -7.000000 2.500000 ANGLES -0.100000 0.000000 -0.000000 FOV 55.000000

 

 

I haven't tested but technically, it would work if you do that for each vehicles (modify to 0.00 the first parameter(it's left/right position),second to a certain negative distance (depend of the size of the vehicle you modify), since the parameter is for Front/Rear position, put the third over 2.00 (it's the height)

the first angles is for angle up/down , second is banking left/right, and rotation left/ right (for example, the camera for rear view is modified here to be at 3.14 (it's a 180 degree angle (so looking back)

 

don't know if it's quite clear but that's not easy to explain ...

pietjuh : bah it's not like it's a bad investment (i bought the xbox version (in fact, i bought an Xbox for GTA IV) and i bought the pc version (mostly for modding BTW))

I probably made a mistake during compression (fraps didn't compressed and i'm not an expert in that so i had some trouble to convert this video in a "light" format (original 1280*1024 were around 400mb a video))

well it's not really perfect but ok (most car dash view are great...some motorbike have great cam too (freeway,hellfury,zombie))

I tried to make the cam as close of what you would get from niko's point of view

yeah that's the problem I've been getting as well. I hope someone finds a way to fix it. It has to do with the material of the windshield, probably the alpha or something along those lines. I've been trying to tweak some things around, but I haven't even gotten close to fixing it. It's an annoyance to me, not being able to see street lights or mission markers.

This is awesome since I usually prefer to use dashboard view when I'm playing a game that involves driving.
