The_Cheese_Man
I think the definitions would be a great idea, but it would be important to keep the focus on them in the context of GTA IV. I read the Depth of Field definition on Wikipedia but it took me some time to understand how it applied to GTA IV.

MorlockGod
I just downloaded and implemented Tweak1 - and I have to say I am very impressed. It took a few minutes for my eyes to stop bleeding from the razor-like shards of pixels that I had totally forgotten my monitor could produce, but now I can see again and it's a beautiful sight. Big thanks to you Bartekxyz for your "Visualsetting.dat" changes and your continued support of this topic. Also big thanks to Klanly for his shader mods. You've both done the community proud. The only oddity I am experiencing is that on my system the depth of field effect completely disappears at night, only to return with the rising of the sun. At first I thought it was the increased contrast of the night textures, but on closer inspection there is definitely no distance blurring what so ever. The mild blur to soften the shadows remains, and can be seen as you toggle "P" definition on and off, but alas the night steals my fuzz. My game is retail, unmodded (apart from this tweak) and with patch 2. Any ideas on this one Bartekxyz? Do you or anybody else get the same experience? -- EDIT -- Actually I'm just now wondering whether this has always been the case, but because there used to be so much full-screen blur it simply wasn't as noticeable? nitro_hedgehog
after learning what DOF is i decided to go with tweak 1. simply beautiful.i'm gonna combine it with farclip 3500 since it looks so damn pretty.
anus
Using the first tweak and it's f*cking awesome! Great work man, and you too Thales (for the pics)! Simply love it! Black Infenus and tweak one in Alderny <3 .
mkey82
I finally tired and I have to say I don't like the motion blur, but DOF and somewhat ironed out shadows look good. TBH anything would be better then those default shadows.

I tried that too (DOF + farclip 3500), but got a RESC10 after sometime - first time in ages, so im using tweak 6. Another good thing of this blur tweak is that i simply set definition to off, game looks exactly the same since there is 0 static blur, and dont need to press P to get the motion blur - aside that it looks better than the original. anus
HOLY f*ckING COW!!! I just came back after a session of IV and I thought I'd call up Little Jacob for a drink. This was during the night, so I got into my Cognoscenti and went over and picked up Jacob. Went to the bar and got drunk. Now everything was fine until I started to drive. HOLY f*ck! The tweak made driving while drunk SOOOOO much more fun and the effects look realistic too! If you haven't tried this, I really recommend it. It's really beautiful. I'm using the first tweak BTW . Once again, this tweak is pure awesomeness! Great work man!

This is a feature of every tweak which is motion blur enabled. It's good that R* made it so complex and easy to configure/tweak Yes, there is limit of 12 pictures in one post. @Thales100 There is no "best tweak" category in voting booth so I can't expect any awards But you can and I really wish you gold BTW. GTAMonkey2012
@The tweak/mod maker. Seeing as this is one superb addition I wanted to re post ref something I posted about a few post pages back. I notice that in bonnet cam (or using dashboard cam mod) in a car the blur is unplayable at very steady speeds (literaly not much movement at all). Blur tto the point that the whole screen is one long blur and you cannot drive. I posted if this could be tweaked as Im not sure if there are different values per camera view in this game/engine. I then got on a motor bike using bonnet cam/first person view and the blur is absolutely superb, you can go much faster than cars and the blur value is spot on. So to me that shows it must have values per vehicle type (Car/Bike). Can this possibly be looked into please? I realy like bonnet view/first person view mod (simply moves from bonnet back into the car at head view) but im tied to 3rd person view in cars. I know you have no blur versions but its the blur in this tweak/mod I realy like. Best test is switch to bonnet view and drive a car with this mod/tweak and you should see what I mean, yet flip to 3rd person in the car and alls well / decent blur. Im just assuming that this was mainly tested in 3rd person only and not the bonnet cam view for the blur values. CptPusheen
I just tried motion blur with bonnet cam and everything is just fine, look for yourself: Bonnet 1: Bonnet 2: Bonnet 3: BTW You can set effects for various situations like aiming/walking/taking damage etc. but I don't think it's vehicle dependent. And few other screenshots, just for fun : Helicopter in rain: Niko in rain: Sentinel at night: Edited February 9, 2009 by bartekxyz
GTAMonkey2012
Ok then, I guess this must be specific to the dash cam mod, maybe the change of values in this mod = kills it working with yours. Might I ask a favour? http://www.zshare.net/download/55340131f9ff7aa5/# Add this file into : \common\data folder of your GTA IV (make a backup). then test it, does it look like a messy blur unplayable wash out using bonnet cam (with this file its in-car dash view values). If it does, could you possibly knock up a "option1" version of your mod that works fine with this file change at all? I guess its not up to you to work around others mods, but this dash cam/replacement cam on bikes looks superb with your mod but its just the car view that has mad blur. EDIT: maybe I should have PM'd this to you specifically .. so for others ignore this, its was realy meant for mod author only. MorlockGod
Am I right in thinking that GTAIV has no depth-of-field effect during its nighttime, or is it just a limitation of this tweak?

It's not a limitation of tweak. It's funny that I didn't noticed it before. Maybe it's because during night time distant buildings have almost the same color as sky so even if it blur edges it isn't noticeable. GODzillaGSPB
Question: Because of format c:\ I had to reinstall GTA IV an hour ago. I erased all your "old" tweaks and looked through the new list. I chose number tweak 2. ^^ Correct me if I'm wrong, but compared to your very first tweak that introduced the far DOF, did you decrease the range at which the DOF kicks in? I think it looks different, the DOF seems to be closer than in the version I used before...I think.

And I think it's the same as old one. But I'm not sure since there is 7 different versions;p EDIT: Yes, you were right. I have just compared old version with new one and in tweak2 DOF kicks in few meters closer to the player. Do you want old version? I can only speak for my game, but I am definitely getting zero DOF at night. It's almost as if Rockstar are using the DOF as a kind of smog / light-pollution effect, rather than pure depth of field. I couldn't see any weather effect settings/files in the GTAIV directory so it might be more difficult to re-introduce nighttime DOF.
CptPusheen
You may have missed my previous post in this topic Oh, sorry. It seems that DOF is decreasing to zero during night time. It must be hidden somewhere in the engine. I'm really suprised...I've never noticed it before...maybe because I let Niko sleep at night Anyway It would be unnoticeable at night so don't bother
udedenkz
I guess this is a place as good as any to ask,- Any way to disable blur during cutscenes, like completely? Yes, it is possible. You might hate me for asking this, how? My cutscenes lagg and look bad with blur. The m-blur looks cool though and works for me.
