I replayed my game twice because I didn't know how to recover my save. I wasn't about to replay a third time! The number on the first line was a little confusing at first to find. But after a little while it all made sense.

Because when I find the correct line, the 'line' after serial number is empty..

Or am I missing something?

nevermind, it also works without the serial, just replacing the line to the left..

Oh god. After seeing the patch notice, I installed the game again (fresh OS as well) and it didn't accept my savegame backup, so I did a search and found this thread. The method posted here doesn't work for me and as I have enough of it, I'm directly gonna uninstall and sell it. Screw them for making it that stupid. I was about through and now I would have to do everything again

Sorry for being this inactive, but I finished my GTA IV and lost my intrest to the game quite much. Anyway, this method works for 100% sure if you do it the right way. Might be that I wrote the guide bad, but still it works.

After finishing the (original, purchased) game I decided to investigate the online / xlive features only to find that I had problems downloading my profile.

 

Xlive suggested removing the profile and creating a new one, which I did. Only to realize that that action rendered my savegames completely useless!!!

 

At least now I have my savegames back.

I'm starting to wonder if something's been updated or changed, because I just can't seem to get this to work. I'm fairly familiar with hex editing, and I think I'm following the instructions properly, but I get the "Load Failed - Check hard drive" error during loading. I'll try again, but I'm not sure what I might be screwing up.

 

Actually, I have a hunch. I think I made the mistake of allowing the new Live account to start a game - thus registering that it had played the game and awarded the Off the Boat achievement. That's probably why I can't use the new Live account with my old saves. Dammit.

I've got alot of questions about this guide, so let me first tell what's the idea in this.

 

The whole idea of this guide is to change the new xlive account's code to match the savegame's code.

 

 

If you understand the guide in a right way, and it doesn't work, you have probably screwed up while hex-editing. There are two lines which you need to hexedit. The first one (upper one) is writed the wrong way: e.g C321B321A3210000E and the second line is in the original way (E0000123A123B123C).

 

 

So here's the example:

 

You have a savegame folder which code is: E0000AAA1BBB2CCC3

You have created a new xlive account.

 

You go to the file which I told to hex-edit.

 

 

After you've opened the hex-editor;

 

You will find the first line:

 

C321B321A3210000E

 

replace it with the code you got from the savegame folder. (write it backwards)

 

3CCC2BBB1AAA0000E

 

The second line:

 

E0000123A123B123C

 

replace it by

 

E0000AAA1BBB2CCC3

 

 

 

 

Remeber, the codes are just examples, you have to find out them yourself.

This is a guide how to load a savegame if you've lost your XLive account for the savegame(s).

I won't be responsible if you mess up something with your computer.

(This guide is not for newbies)

 

If you are not sure how to do this, or you don't understand some step, watch this video.

 

 

 

 

1. Download a hexeditor and install it. Example: Hex Workshop

 

2. Write down the "E0xxxxxxx" code from your savegame folder which ones XLive account you've lost.

 

3. Create a new XLive account.

 

4. Go to "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Content\E0xxxxxxxxx\FFFE07D1\00010000" (If you can't go to there, turn hidden folders to visible)

 

5. There you will find a one file, open it with the hexeditor.

 

6. Find following lines:

 

(http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/3187/hexeditmp0.jpg)

 

7. Now replace the underlined lines with the code you wrote down at step 2.

(Notice the upper line, it is writed backwards)

 

8. If you can't find the lines, it's the same code that the Xlive account has (shown in the video).

 

9. Save the file you edited.

 

10. Rename the following file and folders with the code you wrote down at step 2:

 

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Content\E0xxxxxxxxxx

 

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Content\E0xxxxxxxxxx\FFFE07D1\00010000\E0xxxxxx (the file you hexedited)

 

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Content\E0xxxxxxxxxx\FFFE07D1\00010000\E0xxxxxxxxxx_MountPt (leave the "_MountPt" at the end, don't remove it)

 

10. If your old savegames aren't already in the folder where they should be, copy them to "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames"

 

11. Play

hi man. i did everything right i think... i double checked everything but every time i open the game they ask me for my live account(i have to wait for them to download it)and a new game starts and then i go to load and its says no saves on hardrive, every time i go back to xlive folder theres a new e0000xxxxxx next to the one i edited..... by the way i put the savegames folder where its suppose to go... any fixes for this problem????? pls help...

This does NOT work. I tried this over 100 times on an offline save (E00001EB2BA26CF2)

 

Wrote it the way it says : F2 6C 2A 2B EB 02 00 E0

 

And changed it. Did all uppercase renaming...it simply keeps persisting on my failure and checking the HDD.

 

DOES NOT WORK. DID IT fuc*ing 4 times now. Each time is the same. I don't know wtf gamesave i have now. It use to work...then I deleted my XLive folder and now I'm fuc*ed

I'm not sure does this work anymore because the game has been patched.

hey, ive got a few questions, mine isn't working...

Does it have to be a new games for windows account? say it isn't new, does it need to have no achievements?

when it starts up, the account logs in fine, but i still get a load failed, please try again later message.

where exactly do you put the save files? are they just the 3 files, and do they go into the old account folder or the new account folder?

agl0: The point of this guide is to make savegames work on a new XLive account (offline), and for that you need the usercode of the savegames. If you can't make it work, there's easier method but it will disable GFWL; XLiveless (search on google)

Is it possible that this isn't working anymore since 1.0.7.0 ? Tried it several times now.. and the first row (where the combination is "spelled" backwards) seems to be gone..
