GUIDE: Loading savegame, when XLive account gone

This is a guide how to load a savegame if you've lost your XLive account for the savegame(s).

I won't be responsible if you mess up something with your computer.

(This guide is not for newbies)

If you are not sure how to do this, or you don't understand some step, watch this video.

 

 

 

 

1. Download a hexeditor and install it. Example: Hex Workshop

 

2. Write down the "E0xxxxxxx" code from your savegame folder which ones XLive account you've lost.

 

3. Create a new XLive account.

 

4. Go to "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Content\E0xxxxxxxxx\FFFE07D1\00010000" (If you can't go to there, turn hidden folders to visible)

 

5. There you will find a one file, open it with the hexeditor.

 

6. Find following lines:

7. Now replace the underlined lines with the code you wrote down at step 2.

(Notice the upper line, it is writed backwards)

 

8. If you can't find the lines, it's the same code that the Xlive account has (shown in the video).

 

9. Save the file you edited.

 

10. Rename the following file and folders with the code you wrote down at step 2:

 

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Content\E0xxxxxxxxxx

 

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Content\E0xxxxxxxxxx\FFFE07D1\00010000\E0xxxxxx (the file you hexedited)

 

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Content\E0xxxxxxxxxx\FFFE07D1\00010000\E0xxxxxxxxxx_MountPt (leave the "_MountPt" at the end, don't remove it)

 

10. If your old savegames aren't already in the folder where they should be, copy them to "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames"

 

11. Play

Don't worry. I tried again today and it worked! I just had to find the corresponding lines to my E0xxxxxxxxx file. They're different for every LIVE profile.

You need to replace them with the E0xxxxxxxxxxxx code from the savegames you are trying to get working. (You can find the code from the ...\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_e0xxxxxxxxxxxx)

I have the same problem, i'm pretty sure that i have followed the steps exactly. When i click on start it's asking me if i want to create an account.

Maybe it's all about version of Game for Windows ? I downloaded the newest version and it still don't work . I will try to install older version if it possible.

 

 

I searched the windows registry, but there is nothing in there . Damn... I don't know what to do I have 55% of the game completed

Does this method allow you to play multiplayer? If not, then Rick's method of copying a single xlive.dll file to your GTA IV directory works much better and you can play any savegame you wish.

In the short manual above it is mentioned that the left key should be in reverse. This is not the case when I'm editing it. Also when I start GTA like this, it doesn't recognize the "Games for Windows" account and asks me to create a new one.

zware find the right line to modify, is not that one. make sure that your program's window looks exactly the same.

If your account disappears after hexediting, make sure you edited both of the lines and also renamed the file and folders which I listed in the first post.

However, for some reason after following all the instructions and attempting to load a game, it gives the "Load failed. Please check hard drive and try again." error. That's normally what one gets when trying to load saves on a different account than which they were made. Isn't the purpose of this method to change the ID of your account so any saves would work?

Ugh, Im about to pull my hair out.

 

So all I want to do is take my saves from my XLive account, and load them into my other Offline account. I don't understand why it's still not working even with this guide! I mean, surely there couldn't be anything different from going Xlive > Xlive (offline) as opposed to Xlive > Xlive. Other people are even able to go Offline > Online.

 

Any help or ideas?

Yeah..so i have maybe the same problem as others.I don't know which line to edit, i tried one time and i failed.I selected the whole line which in edited myself and on where i thought it would be.

 

Any tips are much appreciated..like drawing some arrows on the screen shot to point me in the right direction.

Just installed GTA IV on my nice shiny new PC and didn't fancy the prospect of playing the game over again (not yet anyway).
