His original post so I'm guessing the number after each 3000 is the Z coordinate.

For the third time this is how he did it.

and for the love of god people please stop quoting images.

sry but its not true.... just changing the z-coords didn't change anything... i believe there is a connection between another file which defines the line that will use the z-coord....

Here is the code for it:

-2000.0 2000.0 15.369 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 2000.0 2000.0 15.369 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 -2000.0 -2000.0 15.369 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 2000.0 -2000.0 15.369 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 13 0.0

It's a single line and delete everything else in your water.dat and replace it with that code.

Actually I don't know why, but when the size is changed from 2000 to 3000 it no longer works, perhaps too big?

At 2000 it doesn't cover the entire map, the airport is totally left out so it looks very wierd when you drive towards that

location... perhaps what needs to be done is piecewise it into 4 smaller quadrants instead of one big plane covering the entire

GTAIV LC map??

Also I didn't test if orientation matters, I just picked what looked like a "swimming pool" and extended it to a very large size (2000)

and increase the height to about 15 or so... Seems to work but some parts of the city you see the water texture dissappear but the

water is still there, haven't figure out how to get rid of that artifact yet...

Yeah we all just have to keep trying I will still screw around with it a little more and figure some stuff out if I can, but even your code is still very fun lol

the 13 in the last part defines the pool... there you have no water animation if anyone fell into the pool and no waves... but you can get small waves with the last parameter if you want... maybe it could be that the area is to big for beeing all over the zero point....

I'm making a video called "The Great Flood of Liberty" and water level will be about 17 feet high biggrin.gif

A preview of it is in my sig but water level is only raised about 5 feet for intro

cant remember

Whenever I make any change at all to water.dat file, including deleting everything and putting that line of code in, GTA4 doesn't start any more.

Install MAGICIV allows GTAIV to run with edited files

Watching that alone makes me want to get GTAIV for the PC. Have you guys found out how to decrease the water level?

Thanks and yeah that's where the music is from lol and to reply to the post above this one, you put it down the same way you put it up, just lower a couple value's instead of increasing them

Here is the one I used in the video, remember delete everything else that is in water.dat file then copy and past this in:

-2000.0 2000.0 15.800 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 2000.0 2000.0 17.800 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 -2000.0 -2000.0 17.800 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 2000.0 -2000.0 17.800 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 13 0.0

It's just one line

well i did exactly the same... just antoher z value (but that should be working too).. i only used a 3000*3000 face not a 2000*2000 one... but i will try yours wink.gif

and yeah i only use one line and deleted the other ones^^

Edit:

lol ok get it... really strange... so its true there is a seize limit for a surface where the z koords will be ignored.

And water will not be rendered in houses (param 15)... little picture

Wich line/lines defines the waters hight?

ok for everyone here a definition:

The water.dat consist of:

x, y, z, param1, param2, param3, param4, [param5], [param6]

param5 and param6 exist only at the end of each line (1 line = 1 surface)

the surface can be defined like:

# 1 --- 3#      /#    /#  /# 2 --- 4

1, 2, 3 and 4 are vertexpoints of each surface. So you have to define the x,y and z coordinate for every vertex point within the 4 parameters... and at the end you will add param5 and param6

param1 till param4 are the same like SA.

param5 can have following values: 5,8,9,13

param5 < 4:- no waterparam5 = 4:- invisible water- wavesparam5 = 5:- visible water- waves- wavesimulation (if a car or ped fall into the sea)param5 = 8:- no water?param5 = 9:- no water?param5 = 13:- visible water- no waves- no wavesimulation through peds or cars

param6 defines waves too... combined with the value 15 for param5 you can have small waves wink.gif

Is it possible to do a script/plugin/etc. that lets you change the water level in-game? Or maybe just the volatility of the water? Either way I would LOVE to see a mod that has massive waves crashing over everything.
