What I like about GTAIV

1. Fully destructible cars that deform realistically.

 

Crysis has great graphics but have you ever tried smashing the cars into each other? It is embarrassing to say the least! The cars stay rigid and do not deform the slightest, keep smashing and nothing happens, smash some more and they blow up entirely!

 

Now to be fair GRID Racer has equally if not better car destruction but you are confined to a single track and you have no "free roam"/"cruise"/"sandbox" ability.. GRID also had "instant replay" mode that rivals that of GTAIV for PC's new "video editor" but the one down side to GRID's "instant replay" was there was no way to save it to video (outside of using 3rd party tools like fraps) and you certainly could not "edit" it in any way..

 

2. Implementation of the NaturalMotion Euphoria Engine

 

This is indeed one step above and beyond the usual "ragdoll physics" of most other modern gaming titles. I didn't fully appreciate this integrated feature/plugin to the RAGE engine until I took a look at the 3rd party website here:

http://www.naturalmotion.com/euphoria.htm .. So sure, the models in GTAIV may not look that "pretty" compared to Crysis, but the ragdoll physics in Crysis have NOTHING on NaturalMotion Euphoria. And while I realize this licensed and is not developed by R*, GTAIV is one of the few popular title games so far to have such a "realistic" simulation of the 3D character..

And if you want to compare it with other games that's dumb.

OK, GRID does not have say perfect video editer or perfect destructible cars.

 

Why won't you compare that, in GRID you can be in .. I am not sure about the word, but "inside the car" and see the steering wheel etc, while in GTA IV you can't do that. Why won't you compare that in Crysis you have better selection of weapons, better graphics for example.

 

Lots to say if you want to compare it that way. Comparing with other games are dumb as hell.

Euphoria was my main reason for buying the game. I first played GTA4 on a friend's Xbox, just running around causing a bit of chaos, but the things thatkept me most entertained was the dynamic way in which the animations were created. If I drove into somebody, there legs would fly up, their body would hit the car and they would roll over the bonnet realistically. They react to gunshots, having you walk into them, everything.. It still keeps me entertained now.

 

I've loved GTA since the first, but euphoria is what made this game.

 

Something I've noticed pretty recently that I think's really cool... If you disable a cops car without killing them, they'll take the nearest civilian vehicle and keep chasing you. I had a lot of fun ramming cop cars with a truck and then being chased by a horde of normal cars.
