O Happy days! How i fixed my lagging problem

Recommended Posts

TheJanManShow

Just wanted to share that i have suffered (i mean *really* suffered) sudden loss of fps after 15-30 mins of playing.

My framerate suddenly dropped to 0.5 fps and my system was non-responsive for about 3-5 seconds, then i could move the cam/mouse for about 1 second, then it froze again.

This even happened in the game menus. Alt-tabbing wouldn't solve it, nor applying the various commandline.txt tricks, nor using memory or any friggin' defragging tools...

Been searching for a solution since dec. 7

Today i redownloaded the nvidia beta drivers 180.84 and noticed that the filesize of these drivers (72.3MB) differed from the drivers that i had downloaded on december 6th (69mb).

Has nvidia updated these beta-drivers without changing the version number? WTF???

icon14.gif Using these new drivers seems to have solved my problem icon14.gif

I have just played for almost 3 hours - rainstorms, daylight, nighttime, explosions - without any stuttering, lag or freezing with relatively stable 20-25 fps@1280x960 - hooray!!

My Settings:

Texture Quality: Medium

Render Quality: High

View Distance: 22

Detail Distance: 50

Vehicle Density: 30

Shadow Density: 0

My Specs:

AMD Athlon X2 4800+

Nvidia 9800GTX

2GB RAM

WinXP SP3

I downloaded the older version (69MB) on dec. 7th from the link displayed in the rsgc... Can't remember the link though...

Just to make it clear, it's the 72.3MB Version that made my game work:

http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/180....nglish_beta.exe

Edit: Found the link for the old, not working 69MB Version:

Are you sure that driver package just doesn't include the PhysX driver too? I don't think Nvidia would change the driver without updating the version number as well. Where did you download it from? Some sites unpack the driver and repack it in a different format like .rar, .7z, etc..

BTW there is a new Nvidia WHQL 180.48 driver available.

This is the exact problem i've go too and have tried explaining to R*. Unfortunately I'm currently on an ATI card so I can't try this, but I'll be surprised if drivers fix it. Willing to try. Thanks for letting us know though.

I extracted both (69 and 73 Mb drivers) and compared them.

There are little differences you can see

I noticed interesting tool PDsetup.exe... Installed it just now.

Sorry to say but it's a placebo effect. The only difference between those driver packages is on contains the AutoCAD Performance Driver and one doesn't. Nvidia would never change the actual driver properties without updating the version number. But that it seems to work for you is great probably due to reinstalling the driver more than anything else.

BTW installing the AutoCAD Performance Driver (PDsetup.exe) is completely pointless unless you use AutoCAD. Doesn't anyone card about what it is they install on their PC?

AutoCAD Performance Driver (PDsetup.exe)

it's NVIDIA Performance Drivers.

where did you find that it's AutoCAD ? smile.gif

Nvidia Performance Drivers

http://www.nvidia.com/object/AutoCAD_PD_workstation.html

It's for using an Nvidia GPU to accelerate graphical rendering in the AutoCAD program.

OK just because the .exe isn't named the same as in the driver package doesn't mean it's not the same. Look at the read me for the Nvidia drivers that PDsetup came with. It clearly stated what they are for the performance drivers are for AutoCAD. What do you think they are for then if not?

  • 2 weeks later...

uhm, im confused. when i try to install the new driver, it leads me to dual core optimizer setup rather than nvidia driver setup! why is that? is there another link for the driver somewhere? i dont understand. this thread is probably to old so no one will reply to this.
