Could you tell me why do you say something like that? We are GTA fans, but we are comparing every new sequel in the franchise, to the previous one.. you know why? Just because we like to see how much the franchise has been changed in a good direction...

Well, I don't see all GTA fans spouting crap all over previous GTAs. Were you doing so? If not, why do you feel offended by my words? There have been a lot of people treating previous GTAs like crappy games because of the funny graphics. And GTA was never about graphics, until GTA IV came out. Finally Hoser had this urge to speak and state that GTA (IV) really IS about graphics. Go figure.

With GTA IV, I think it's safe to comment, we're witnessing a standard "one step forward, two steps back" situation.

Mate, let me tell you that I still like playing Vice City and San Andreas. Hell.. even GTA III if I'm in the right mood to do it.

But it's a fact that the newer versions have always improved, when you compare them to the pervious ones. And yes, GTA IV has better graphics and physics than SA, but SA is STILL a good game. Although my favourite is VC, and IMO GTA SA was really a game which just went to this "ghetto style" because developers thought it's trendy.

And I'm not really in that kind of stuff... but the side-missions and gyms were pretty clever implemented features.. The statistics system was amazing too IMO. wink.gif

Ah man, don't lose faith in San Andreas. smile.gif

Install ENBSeries now! It makes the game look incredible - a lot more similar to GTA 4 in many ways.

I did this a month or so ago and was blown away. Playing SA in 1080p with HDR lighting effects and other modern graphical effects is brilliant. I've started playing the story again and it's like discovering it for the first time in many ways.. Really loving exploring the environment again.. It's cool as it's so different to GTA 4 in location / style etc..

I must admit i've got massively back into GTA 4 on the PC after finishing the PS3 version months ago.. The PC version is truly brilliant graphically and the atmopshere is stunning. The video editor is too damn addictive as well..

All the modern GTA games are fantastic though.. They all have a place in our hearts I'm sure.. wink.gif I just want to see Vice City remade with the GTA 4 engine..

Say whats this ENBSeries you speak of.

I am intrigued.

Looking on the site there are quite a few versions for S.A.. which version should i use you think ?

I use version 0.75 (I had the same problem as you - trying to work out which to get):

http://boris-vorontsov.narod.ru/enbseries_gtasa_v0075.zip

This works nicely. The 0.76 which is on it's way add's reflections from the sky which should be very cool.

On that thread we linked to many people post their configs and it can depend on your system setup. I'll happily send you mine to get you started if you'd like to try it.

I used it on an AMD 4600+ and Nvidia 8000GTX, so it may not be right for you but worth a shot.

EDIT: Although looking now, I see you have a better CPU than that and the HD4850 is a top card isn't it?

I will download and try it out.

With our different setups your cfg set up probably will not work, but thanks again for offering.

I can not draw comparisons with your NVIDIA card as I am not familiar with NVIDIA technology, but my ATI seems to do just fine for now. smile.gif

NOTE * I suppose this has been said 10000 times before now, but something like this would be great for applying AA etc. to GTA IV. *

Pshhh! Screw graphics. I reinstalled GTA 2 - Can't get gta 1 or london to work in vista !! sad.gif - And started playing that again. Even with the frame limiter on, it's unbelievably fast.

None the less- THAT WAS A GAME! Screw all those fancy shmancy things like a 3rd dimension and realism.

If you take the mouse in gta 4 and position it above you while you walk/drive, you'll see that they're no better than gta 2's graphics. Seriously. Try it.

GTA 2 FTW. tounge2.gif

After playing about 3/4 of IV now (heh), it's hard NOT to compare to the previous installments. The entire UL Paper set of missions feel like they were lifted from the Mike Torino strand in SA, right down to getting your "buddy" to help. There were a LOT of "wait, haven't I done this before?" moments in the game actually. It's not really ragging on the gameplay so much - although it feels like the AI was set to "stupid" for most of the game, and REALLY stupid for Three Leaf Clover - it's just that it seems like most of the missions from IV are retreads of missions from past games.

Yes the graphics look good, yes the physics are fun to watch (I like to call it Luchadores on Acid), but after all the hype and whatnot, I'd have been extremely disappointed if I'd had bought the game instead of having it gifted to me as an early Christmas present. As it is, it's mostly OK. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe the Houser brothers' creative well is running dry, and maybe it's time from them and R*/T2 to move on.... confused.gif

I'm actually not against democracy though. I'm against things I think are f*cking stupid. I think this is f*cking stupid. - Sweets

There may be less to do and less custumization in part IV than the previous San Andreas gta but overall I find the game to be much more fun. The story and writing is straight up superb. It runs just fine on my pc as well. The visuals are outstanding and the multiplayer is insane! That being said, SA is pretty nasty looking now. I still have it installed on my pc lol. Anyone know of a graphics mod that increases the textures for it 10 fold?

What's the point of good car physics when you can only use a mouse and keyboard?

because some of us prefer them smile.gif

give me an analog and I drive like a drunk monkey..

give me a keyboard and mouse and Ill beat anyone racing and get away from 5 stars everytime.

Some of us grew up on Nintendo/Super Nintendo controllers playing mario kart and f-zero with learning to 'tap' the turn key depending on how fast you need to turn..its second nature. the whole analog thing throws my driving to hell.

LMAO..

I bet it does bloody fly.. smile.gif

Ah I remember GTA 1.. It was a great game at the time - something different.. Those first steps into creating a action city sim where you could not only walk around but also drive! Awesome concept.

But I have to say this and it's pretty categorical.. My gaming life truly began when GTA 3 was released.. I remember flicking through a PS2 mag in the newsagents and saw details about this new revolutionary game.. I can still remember the article now, the screens.. GTA in 3D... <double take>.. GTA in 3D!! My brain couldn't quite take in the concept.. The great gameplay of GTA 1 in a full 3D world - it just didn't seem technically possible. Like a dream where you wake up and wish life was really like that. wink.gif

Suffice to say I went out and bought a PS2 just for GTA 3 when it was launched - before that point I hated consoles.. Some amazing memories.. That first day when I loaded it up and drove away from the scene of the prison break.. Incredible..

What's with all the "you're not a hardcore GTA fan" bullsh*t??

GTA IV is GTA, last time I checked.

I can only speak for myself, but I've played the crap out of the first ones. Then III came out, I was in awe and playing everyday for god knows how long. Never played Vice City as some stuff was going on in my life at the time and video games were far from being a priority...

Then San Andreas came out on PC. It was like being a child in the biggest sandbox in the world with all the toys you ever wanted. Or something like that.

Anyway I got years of enjoyment out of the franchise, and yes enbseries was great and took SA a little bit more towards "next gen" (I hate those words).

From the moment I saw the first trailer for IV to the moment the first gameplay videos started appearing on YouTube in early May, I was going crazy wanting it and not being able to play (don't have a console and never will). Now that I can, it's everything I've wanted in a GTA and then some.

It's not only the graphics, though they're certainly the best we had so far (in GTA). And if you find that game ugly well either there's something wrong with you, or you're just pissed off because your PC can't run it. The physics, driving, sound (some stellar work there), missions and writing, the city... every single aspect of it blows the other GTAs away.

Does that mean that the earlier games are now terrible? No. Just the same as San Andreas didn't make III any worse. Or that Mario Bros. didn't alter Donkey Kong in any way.

Playing San Andreas with the ENBSeries mod, just drive down the Casino area at night and tell me how GTA IV compares.

Gameplay is second to none and with the foliage and car mods the games looks amazing.

My jaw aint dropped once at GTAIV, in Crysis Warhead many times, as it has with Far Cry/1&2, and plenty more besides.

Piss poor port, those that are content with this crap are easily pleased and will serve our governments well.

I rather enjoyed the "Action Figure driving remote control cars in a model city made of plastic" feel of the old games tounge.gif

The new one has grown on me a lot, but I'll always love the old games!

Agreed. I tried to run the GTA3 (I am replaying it at the moment) ENBseries mod, but the game wouldn't even launch.

But in all honesty, if all you care is about graphics, then yes SA will look ugly. But the sandbox feel of SA far outstrips the one in GTA IV.

What?

You're not a hardcore GTA fan, are you? All classic GTAs were amazing, and for me they are better than GTA IV. But that really depends on your taste though.

How exactly does that not make him a hardcore fan? I'm a hardcore GTA fan, I have played and beaten every single one, and I say IV is the best. Does that make me wrong? No, it makes me opinionated, just like you.

GTA3, VC, SA and 4 are all great games for their own reasons, if you can look past graphics and appreciate what each game offers i think any GTA fan would love all of them. They are all classics. Remember graphics don't make or break a game, a good game is a good game.
