Just finished GTA4...

Overall a really great game but it feels very much like GTA3 where they have to refine it for the next lot of games on the engine. I loved the story and the voice acting and the physics were all great but I'll stick to the bad points that Rockstar need to improve on next time....

 

- Menus are really annoying to navigate for the PC, too slow and just put you off wanting to play the multiplayer. I'm not a fan of having to login to GFWL and Social club to play online and not a fan of having to log onto GFWL to be able to save the game. I found the server browser to be crap and hated how I had to go into the game and open up my mobile to thej be brought out of the game and into the multiplayer menu..... It's something that'll kill the multiplayer. Also no ping numbers sucks.

 

- Needs a Race map editor like the one from GTA:SA MTA Race.

 

- Needs and SDK

 

- Needs things like AA, windowed mode, vsync and the ability to turn off the restrictions to be put in the game menus. Oh yeh and put P in the graphics options too.

 

- They need to make better use of the world next time like you have this fun faire and roller coaster and yet it's shut and it would have been nice to be able to go ont he rides and have a sense of a more real world and really take advantage of euphoria.

 

- The story is far tooo linear for a sandbox game and would have liked more choice like in Fallout 3 where if you blow up the town thats a whole part of the game gone. I really thought Michelle and Niko would get it on later on in the game but nothing...... made me sad that they threw away a potential love interest away just like that having put me through the boring dates.

 

- I'd love the ability to have fuel turned on or off to make use of petrol stations.

 

- The most fun missions are the non frustrating ones and have to do kool things like type in the guys mobile number on your mobile to get him to come to the phone and sniper him. I hated all the ones like the bank mission where you have to keep going through it again and again because once oyu get past the gun bit you then have to lose 3 stars where you often fail and it is just too long and drawn out. It would have been better to walk out of the subway with no stars and drive back. So alot of missionr efining needs to happen.

 

- I want a parachute in the multiplayer for helicopter dives.

 

- Be able to swim under water.

 

- Get rid of all the annoying things like when you die you have to wait for it to finish the grey part and then load up the hospital and then the camera glide over to your character before you can access the menu and reload the game....... just let it be instant. It's like the hotdog eating, just make it isntant.

 

 

 

I really liked the game however and despite all the issues it is my GOTY. All Rockstar really need to do is add an SDK and put multiplayer in the main menu and I'd be instantly happier with the game. However I'm not sure if we'll ever get an SDK cause of GFWL.

Good summary/review. I agree with most of it, if not all of it.

 

I do think they would/should be able to add an SDK. Will they? Probably not. Why? I have no idea. You mentioned Fallout 3. Which I believe they have released an SDK (of sorts) G.E.C.K. (garden of eden creation kit). Fallout 3 is also a GFWL title. It would be the best thing for this game. As, well, as the other things you mentioned AA, MP, and other options via the menu. The instants as well. All in all. Good job, nailed it.
