WebmasterNeal
I installed GTAIV the other day and got very poor FPS. I then turned all settings completely down - 800x600 etc. Even with those settings I was only able to get 12-15fps. I then made a few modifications that I saw floating around this forum and maybe got another 1 or 2 FPS from that. I'm to the point now where I'm strongly considering selling the game and cutting my loses. On the other hand I've been a hardcore GTA gamer on the PC since the beginning and would be willing to sink a few bucks into my PC to make the game worth playing. What should I upgrade to see 30+ FPS? Windows Vista SP2 32 Bit AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT (512 MB, PCI Express) Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/385241-poor-fps-what-should-i-upgrade/ Share on other sites
Zut
$89 will get you a nice triple core processor that should run GTA4 very well, assuming you have a compatible motherboard... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103254 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/385241-poor-fps-what-should-i-upgrade/#findComment-1058777588 Share on other sites

Wait and hope for a patch B. 3GB RAM 800/1066/133mhz, QUAD Core and a much better graphics card...the 8500GT i'm afraid shouldnt even be able to run the game its a poor budget card!!!! Ask around for good graphics card..get summit like Nvidia 9800/8800GTS/GTX280 or ATI 4850/4870 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/385241-poor-fps-what-should-i-upgrade/#findComment-1058777598 Share on other sites
GTA3Freak-2001
Well all of it really, it seems to get 30+ fps you need Quad Core and something more powerful then a 8500GT I am afraid. The major thing is obviously your processor, depending on your motherboard you may be able to get a Tri-Core or Quad AMD in there and that would help certainly. ArecBalrin
Keep your money in your wallet, your wallet in yours hands, then sit on your hands. The game is currently very CPU intensive, for controversial and unclear reasons. But there are similiar benchmark results for vastly disparate CPUs. It seems that for every 150 US dollars spent on a CPU, it only gets you 10-15 more FPS. The game is unoptomised and a very flawed port, released in an atrocious beta-like state. Wait until around february in case a few more patches come along before spending any money on new parts just because of it. Only upgrade if you were planning on doing it for a while just for a general performance boost in all games. I'm not familiar with AMD CPUs, so I can't give advice on that. lincolnunit
You need atleast another 1gb of ram Def should upgrade processor, atleast a amd x2 6000 (3.0 ghz) So might want to go for the tri-core or quad core, they aren't that expensive anyways You can keep your video card, I'm running mine on xfx 8600 gts and game runs fine at medium-high settings (but could be better) My spec: windows xp sp2 64-bit 4 gb ram AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ (3.0 ghz) XFX 8600 GTS 512 MB I can only run the game at medium texture with high render quality with a view distance of 43 Resolution 1280 x 1024 75 HZ Benchmarked average FPS is 20 but it usually seems to run better in game but even so it is playable Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/385241-poor-fps-what-should-i-upgrade/#findComment-1058777647 Share on other sites
DIRTYDUNKY
for AMD guys if you have a MB thats for a socket AM2 (like my 6400+) they are backwards compatible to socket AM2+ chips meaning if you have an older AM2 motherboard it will support a new quad core AMD with some limitations as compared to having it installed in an AM2+ board good for incremental upgrades not like how i got screwed with my older 939 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/385241-poor-fps-what-should-i-upgrade/#findComment-1058777916 Share on other sites
