Possible Memory Leak Fix - Worked for me

It looks this memory leak doesn't work for me. Really sometimes my gta has memory leak and sometimes it don't. Once I changed the water resolution then turned it back and my GTA started having memory leak lag (not constant lags, only small lag spikes) Any more idea? I'm using these commands (I don't care if you think it doesn't work, well it do)

 -availablevidmem 2.0 -norestrictions -memrestrict 629145600 -percentvidmem 100

And another weird thing, that if I save my game at night (night means in game sarcasm.gif ) it'll lag more if I load up my savegame.

I used this so-called memory leak fix once, all I got is BSOD.

Hi there,

Finally got that game working for more than 15min, actually been playing it for about 4 hours without a crash, lost textures or any trouble at all.

I use a mixed list of trick, run the game in windowed mode, use the memrestrict and a cache boost software.

I created a shortcut and used the following as Target :

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -windowed -width=1024 -height=768 -memrestrict 314572800

(note that I have yet to try in full screen mode, and with 1024x768 it's bit small so I have to manually enlarge the window).

I also used the following tool : http://www.systweak.com/CacheBoost/

It's only a 30day free trial but I will buy it, it work absolutely great (note that with same config but without the cache boots, the lost texture problem appear within 5-15)

I have only 2gb ram on my pc and it show that 500mb is always free.

Got a AMD x64 2.4ghz, 2gb ram, and Nvidia GTX285 /1gb, Win XP64, the machine is a tad old, but I can play the game now, not the best FSP ever but enough to play comfortably.

I hope that this help someone.

wow, i disreguarded the -memrestrict 629145600 for high textures after reading negative things about it without even trying it, i tried it out the other day and now i can make my settings to go just before yellow so i keep it just in the green.

i have everything on max except for view distance at 25 --- detail distance at 70 --- vehicle density at 40 --- shadows on 1 --- 1920x1200 res, and do not seem to get slow downs at all now on single player with a very good smooth fps, even when i make things chaotic having 5 stars up and can run it for hours until i've had enough.

used to get the out of video memory very regular at even lower settings than this so the command line has really helped my single player game out very well. icon14.gifbiggrin.gificon14.gif

I don't think you should combine availablevidmem and percentvidmem with memrestrict. Remove ALL but memrestrict.

I haven't had a crash since i used | -memrestrict 4612608000 -availablevidmem 2.0 -notimefix -novblank -noprecache | biggrin.gif

That fixed my problems with codes and crashes every 2-3 hours.

I'll try those extra commands cellkill, as I got the out of video memory about 3 hours of play except I will use.

-memrestrict 629145600 -availablevidmem 1.5 -notimefix -novblank -noprecache

I'm not sure what these -notimefix -novblank -noprecache commands do but I'll try them anyway.

P.S  Dont thank me... Thank R* if this works

Thank you.Thank you, that we can correct the game that you made.Thank you, that we can correct the game that you made two weeks after the actual release.Thank you that you actually cared what happens to all the Pc gamers.Even if this doesn't work completely.Thank you that you made a patch that made things worse for some people. You know...i simply can't thank them enough for their work...keep it up guys!!!!Some day you can even become professionals!!Maybe...

Easy tiger.... We all feel the same in some respects but theres already a million and one of these posts, another isnt really needed

Besides, R* Torronto didnt have to PM me, he / she didnt have to send me a reply message with a possible fix. I didnt call them

I didnt email them, I just posted on this forum which isnt owned by R* it may sound like Im defending them, but im just happy the person who sent me that PM was able to offer a solution which worked for me and by the looks of it, some others too.

That still doesn't make up for the fact that WE the gaming community,WE WHO PAYED for the game,WE who had to put with the console exclusive crap for six months,WE who knew the game had that damn DRM, and WE STILL bought it.And now WE have to fix the game. And THEY,THEY who took our money,THEY who put DRM in a game that doesn't even work,THEY who said only 1% of the gaming community had problems with the game,THEY who released a "fix" that made the game worse for some folks,do you honestly believe you'll get a solotiun for your problems from the guys who made a patch that doesn't even work by some people?I see everyone after an hour is getting slowdowns again.Great fix.I'm not attacking you,Swsuk. Are we really supposed to be happy that they actually want to fix a game that they screwed up??Well,hooooraay....i'm finally gettin' my money's worth!

RockStar Games T. Do-it-yourself optimization kit for kids-----out stores december 22. only for $9.99

"Fix what we screwed up,and have fun being a developer!"

So what's your specifications for your computer?

did the new patch fix anything?

No it did not. I was running perfectly fine with patch version 1.0.2.0, once 1.0.3.0 was release now i am having severe stuttering problems... I alt+tab and it fix's it for about 2 minutes, then its back to the way it was.. thats even with using the memrestrict for medium settings

system specs

XP 32bit sp3

AMD 9600 quad core black edition (2.3ghz)

4gb of kingston ram

radeon hd2600 pro 512mb (upgrading for 4830 on monday, maybe that will help, but im not crossing my fingers... R* really messed up on this one, and to think that i built a pc to run this game. what a dissapointment)

Yes, everything, from ctd with no error to freeze to sound loop and hard reset

Not for me. I had stuttering problems before, but now . . . man. Plus I'm now getting that error about running out of video memory. Rockstar, if you think you're finished patching this game . . . think again.

OK, there has been a lot of talk how the memory leak issue has been fixed and I'm saying "no it fekking hasn't" at least not all around. Here's the proof. Click to enlarge.

user posted image

The first graph shows my GPU temp (yeah, a bit useless at this moment, but I don't wanna edit and upload the images again tounge2.gif), the second one shows the GPU usage with the third being the memory usage.

Windows7 64 bit. IMO the leak has gotten even worse, as it eats memory faster then before, but it again caps at some 3.2GB. So, it goes from some 700MB and end up at 2.5GB. While most of the pop-up and those ugly grey boxes are gone, they usually start to appear after some 45 minutes. Also, the game stat to stutter a bit more.

So, to all those guys saying "I got 2GB of RAM and that meets the requirement" - NO you don't have enough RAM and the game will (most probably) start to behave erratically not long after it has been started.

Hey all, sorry for my bad english. i got a great fix or you can say the best fix to freezing. I tried underclocking my gpu. I swear man, there was no freezing at all. I played the game for 6 hours non stop. Before it used to freeze in 10 to 15 minutes.

I used riva tuner 2.24, went into driver setting, then overclocking setting, and reduced the core clock, shader clock and the memory clock 10%-15% from its original setting.

For example your core clock is set to 900, so 10% of 900 is 90. So reduce it to 810. Do the Same to all three.

Well it has been tried and tested and works 100%. no performance loss, no loss of frame rates nothing. Instead i had an increase in the frame rate about 20 more.

Plz brothers, try it, it really works. Hope it helps you all.

And one more thing, dont forget to delete all the tweaks, commandline file and anything other before applying this. You can use Memturbo but no tweaks in file or commandline.

Tnx in advance.

Is that you, Hunaid?

Who is that?? oh you must be talking about the person whose words i have taken or used. Man i realy dont know how it happened or why it happened but truely saying, that man Hunaid was right. I tried it on my Nvidia 9600 gt ddr3 1gb and guess, i worked. I dont know where is he. Tnx Hunaid. And i suggest that this tweak works only with nvidia cards i suppose, but whatever, atleast i am able to play it now. Thank you once again Hunaid.

Finaly after ours of non sleep night, testing, installing new driver, making experience with the famous -memrestrict ive finaly found the perfect match for my system to avoid the stutering memory leak issue.

Ive return to the 181.22 Nvidia drivers, heard lots of good thing about those one, then put the -memrestrict 314572800 into the notepad in then gta4 path, the put again -memrestrict 314572800 in my gta4.exe by right clicking, the properties..bla bla...then ive installed a software then ive found on the net, cause its CleverCache 6 Professional its a unique tool that optimizes the File Cache Management for Windows Vista, NT, 2000 and Windows XP. This results in an enormous increase in performance boosting a system's performance at times to up to twice its original speed. All this is achieved without the need for additional hardware or any reduction in your system's stability. You simply install O&O CleverCache 6 and you’re ready to go – no need to reboot. It automatically recognizes your configuration, and within 5 minutes you can unlock the resources on your Windows system! The more the file cache grows, the less memory is available for running applications. The result is a significant decrease in performance as requests for memory lead to the so-called "swapping" of memory. This occurs when unused memory segments are paged out to the hard disk's paging file. Because hard disk access is slow relative to Memory, loss of performance is inevitable.

....Sorry ive made a copy paste on the official site ...im not a spammer, ive found this software by pure chance..

I can asure u that IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!!

..No more stuttering at all....GTA4 Runs smoothly for hours.

Just google it,ive download the 30 days try but im so happy that i think im gonna by it...

Sorry for my horrible english..im native french..so...

Theres the bench i made with the clever cache on.

Its in french but you gonna figure out the important point..

Look at the memory system and the GPU memory..

Look at the previous Bench, take a special look again to the system memory and the gpu mem..without CleverCache..it was a TOTAL slide show in heavy action phase of the game...DOn't be fooled by the 37.68 FPS cuz in heavy battle or action phase it was a total mess a stuttering carnage.

I feel I should post here my experience of this method as a warning - it may be a coincidence, but this seems a tad unlikely...

I had bought myself a new GeForce 9500 GT from Amazon.co.uk and GTA IV - my PC was half decent spec in all departments but graphics, and this new purchase would push me into a zone where I should be able to play with no problems.

The system picked it's own settngs to start with, high or very high for most, and looked fantastic on screen, breathtaking even, until you did anything more energetic than stroll along the street. SO I tweaked it about for a while, and found that everything on medium, apart from reflection and texture filter on high would give me perfect balance for looks and gameplay, anything higher and it was slowing down to bad in high sped driving in traffic to be playable, but this was just so sweet. Only problem that happened was consistently after at least 90 mins, and no more than 145 mins, the game would grind to a stuttering halt - FPS dropping so low it had all but stopped. The old Alt+Tab provided no relief, and restarting the game only bought me 30 mins play. A full system reboot was all that would sort it, untill next time...

So, I googled this problem, imaginging I could not be the only person in such a situation, and of course I'm not... I found this forum, and eventually this post... great, a fix from R* to stop stuttering, admitting there is a leak problem, sounded great. So I did the memrestrict for high settings, nothing different, tried it for medium, game crashed immediately on loading... windows have horizontal lines through them, ghosts of other programs staying on screen... no other 3D games will launch now, even basic text windows are glitched....

I've been in touch with the manufacturer, and after a few checks they tell me the RAM on my card is knackered, and the card will need replaced. I did not tell them about the commandline.txt from here... I sent them the card yesterday, and hopefully I'll get it replaced under warranty without problems... but just be careful when running this... forcing your GPU to handle memory in ways it was not designed to might not be risk free!

Lunantic that is pure coincidence. A program cannot and will not ever, EVER damage your hardware in ANY ways except for overheating. It's basically impossible with todays hardware. There are several safety measures integrated both in the software and in the hardware itself to prevent this from happening.

When I looked into it a bit, I found claims that forcing a piece of hardware to manage itself differently, as in, not allowing it to manage itself can cause them to fail...?

Are you sure it is impossible to issue a command to a bit of hardware that would damage it? (like overclocking?).

The card was 4 days old and performing wonderfully on a range of games, and died the second I tried to launch the game with medium settings and memrestrict on, seems a little bit too coincidental.

Anyways, card came with a 10 year warranty, and I should get a new one soon, and I'll just keep the settings down and make do with a little stuttering untill maybe another patch finally sorts it!

Im using

Windows 7 Ultimate (32bits)

With specs of:

Processor: Intel Quad Core @ 3.6Ghz

Ram: 4 GB

Graphic Cards: Asus EAH 4870x2 (Triple Fans)

Im cant seems to run it on High Texture.. I get a random system hang when it goes in the long cinematic. Anyone faces this before?

i used the commandline of:

-memrestrict 629145600 -notimefix -novblank -noprecache -norestrictions

still it dont seems to solve anything.. sad.gif

You should never use norestrtict option with the memrestrict. Remove the norestrict commandline.
